More details have been revealed about plans to deliver a new £100m rail station at the Baltic Triangle. Redevelopment of the long unused stop on the edge of the city centre was announced in 2022 with Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram aiming to get passengers on track by "late" 2027.

00:16It's thought the work on the station, which will be located on the Northern Line,
00:20will begin next year subject to local authority approval.
00:23In September, the go-ahead was given to £96 million being drawn down to open the new stop.
00:28The investment will fund the new station alongside improvements to active travel
00:31and surrounding public spaces following significant support from a public consultation.
00:35It's expected the project could handle 17,000 trips a day on an average weekday.
00:40The main station building will be situated on a triangular plot bordered by Stanhope Street to the south,
00:46Ashwell Street to the east and north and the Mersey Rail Northern Railway Line cutting to the west.
00:51Access to the station will be from Stanhope Street and Ashwell Street.
00:54A small existing building within this area will be demolished to accommodate the new station.
