00:00Probably the frustration we have in this sector is how do we actually get very well-meaning
00:07plans to be put into action to immediately respond to stop the flow of deaths and carnage
00:16that we are experiencing across our communities here in Australia.
00:21I welcome the response, I welcome another standalone action plan for Aboriginal and
00:29Torres Strait Islander women and children, however, action must start to flow now and
00:35we must see a more dedicated and nuanced response from each state and territory in relation
00:42to their policing and justice system responses.
00:46Now policing and justice system responses we know sit squarely within the ambit of state
00:51and territories, but the Commonwealth has a primary role in directing how state and
00:58territory police respond to victim survivors, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
01:04women and children fleeing the violence, and in that respect I'm talking about tackling
01:09the unconscious bias that is essential at the heart of addressing how we respond to
01:17an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman reaching out for help.
