The High Court in Ipoh has fixed four days in January to call two witnesses from Indonesia regarding additional evidence submitted by former Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong Choo Kiong, who was convicted of raping his former maid.

Yong’s lawyer Salim Bashir said the victim’s lawyer and a notary public would be called to testify.

00:00The High Court in Ipoh has provisionally scheduled four days in January to hear testimony from
00:09two Indonesian witnesses in connection with former Perak Exco Paul Yong Chukyong's appeal,
00:16which includes additional evidence against his conviction for raping his maid.
00:21Yong's lawyer Datuk Hisham Tehpoh Teh told reporters that the High Court will review
00:27the additional evidence based on submissions from both the defense and prosecution, following
00:33which it will provide its opinion and forward it to the federal court for consideration
00:39in the applicant's main appeal.
00:41Yong's other lawyer, Salim Bashir, said the two witnesses are the victim's lawyer and
00:46a notary public, both of whom are from Jakarta.
00:50On November 12, the Putrajaya Federal Court granted Yong's application to introduce additional
00:57evidence in his appeal against his conviction for raping his maid.
01:02The three-judge panel allowed five documents to be admitted as additional evidence, describing
01:07them as significant as they appear to indicate that the victim may have provided false testimony
01:14during Yong's trial.
