00:00 It was a heated exchange of words between the prosecution and the defence over witness
00:06 statement in Datuk S. Najib Razak's 1 Malaysia Development Berhad trial at the Kuala Lumpur
00:11 High Court on Monday.
00:13 The trial continued with the 49th prosecution witness, Nur Aida Arifin, resuming her testimony
00:20 by reading her 95-page witness statement.
00:23 Her testimony, however, was halted when Najib's lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafi Abdullah,
00:30 stood up to object on the grounds of hearsay.
00:33 He argued that the witness, a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission senior officer, had drawn her own
00:38 conclusion in the case.
00:41 In response, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Akarib said her testimony was merely
00:47 based on the findings of her investigation as she was the investigating officer in the
00:53 1MDB probe.
00:54 Muhammad Shafi, however, objected to Nur Aida's statement numerous times.
01:00 This prompted High Court Judge Justice Colin Lawrence-Akwera to intervene.
01:05 The proceedings were then urgent for parties to meet the judge in chambers.
01:10 Najib is on trial for 25 charges, four for abuse of power that allegedly brought him
01:15 the financial benefit to the tune of RM2.28 billion and 21 for money laundering involving
01:22 the same amount of money.
01:24 The hearing continues on January 24.
