00:00Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Medea TV, thank you for joining us for the
00:22main news.
00:23In Romania, a pro-Russian candidate that no one expected has arrived at the head of the
00:43first round of the presidential election, Kalin Georgescu has collected more than 22%
00:48of the votes.
00:49At least 85,000 women and young girls were intentionally killed in the world in 2023.
00:58According to the UN, 140 women are killed every day or a woman every 10 minutes.
01:19The Israeli army carried out a series of strikes on the southern border of Beirut and Holland.
01:30Tomorrow is a day of Israeli bombing, particularly murderous in Lebanon.
01:33Hezbollah announced this Sunday several drone and missile attacks against military targets
01:38and bases in the region of Tel Aviv.
01:40And in southern Israel, the Lebanese Ministry of Education announced the suspension of
01:44face-to-face classes in Beirut.
01:46We will discuss this until the end of December, the details with Soheil Jalil.
01:51Every day, there are a lot of exchanges of strikes in the Middle East.
01:56Hezbollah has indicated that it has fired drones and missiles against military targets
02:01in Tel Aviv and a naval base in Ashdod in southern Israel, in a rare attack on southern
02:06Israel.
02:07In retaliation, the southern border of Beirut was hit by two Israeli strikes.
02:12On a visit to Beirut, the head of European Union diplomacy, Josep Borrell, called for
02:17an immediate ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hezbollah, after his interviews
02:22with Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the head of parliament, Nebi Ebri.
02:27It is tragic that we could not get this war to an end.
02:33But this must happen.
02:36It is tragic that we could not put an end to this war.
02:39It is time to learn from the tragedies we have seen in Lebanon and Gaza to avoid more
02:44suffering.
02:45We must put pressure on the Israeli government and maintain pressure on Hezbollah so that
02:50it accepts the proposal to cease fire in the United States, a proposal awaiting final
02:55settlement with the Israeli government.
02:58This was agreed.
03:00This proposal is pending with the final agreement with the Israeli government.
03:06In the program of the head of European diplomacy, there are also discussions with Nebi Ebri,
03:11president of the Lebanese parliament, key player in the negotiations for a possible
03:16ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
03:18The European diplomat also had to meet the head of the Lebanese army and the leaders
03:22of the United Nations to deal with the escalation of violence in the region.
03:27As the European Union, we are supporting the Lebanese people, the Lebanese army.
03:33As the European Union, we are supporting the Lebanese people, the Lebanese army and
03:37the Lebanese institutions.
03:39We are ready to provide 200 million euros to help strengthen the Lebanese army, not
03:43only financially but also technically.
03:51Since September 2023, Israel has intensified its air strikes in Lebanon, targeting bastions
03:56of Hezbollah in response to the attacks carried out by the group in solidarity with Hamas.
04:01Israeli strikes have caused more than 3,650 deaths in Lebanon.
04:06The Pentagon confirmed that talks were underway between the United States, France and other
04:11partners to establish a ceasefire based on the implementation of Resolution 1701.
04:18After conducting new strikes in Beirut, Israel wants to target a Hezbollah command center.
04:24On Saturday, Israeli strikes killed 29 people and injured more than 60.
04:28The Lebanese authorities and citizens reject the Israeli statements evoking a high Hezbollah
04:33leader as a target for this Israeli strike.
04:39And on the evolution of the situation in the Middle East, I propose to listen to the analysis

16:13Hello.
16:15Hello.
16:17So, to begin with,
16:19can we go back to the campaign
16:21of the 16 days of activism
16:23but also the theme that was chosen
16:25this year?
16:27Thank you,
16:29thank you for having me
16:31today. Yes, indeed,
16:33today we launch the
16:3533rd edition of the campaign of the 16 days
16:37of activism against
16:39violence against women and girls.
16:41It is a world day
16:43that calls for awareness,
16:45mobilization
16:47and action.
16:49This campaign is
16:51organized under the auspices of the Secretary-General
16:53of the United Nations
16:55and
16:57brings together all partners
16:59to this world campaign
17:01to fight against
17:03violence against women and girls, as you
17:05so well introduced it at the beginning of the report.
17:07So,
17:09where are the efforts
17:11and progress of Morocco today
17:13in terms of the fight against violence against women?
17:15And how does the UN Women
17:17contribute to these efforts?
17:19The progress,
17:21Morocco has
17:23made significant progress
17:25in the last 20 years,
17:27notably in terms of
17:29normative and
17:31legal framework.
17:33A framework law exists,
17:35Article 3.13, which fights against
17:37violence against women and girls in Morocco.
17:39Unfortunately,
17:41we have identified through
17:43various investigations and studies
17:45that only 40% of women
17:47in Morocco
17:49are aware of
17:51the existence of this legal framework.
17:53UN Women, as well as
17:55other partners
17:57of the government of Morocco,
17:59support institutions
18:01and civil society
18:03to fight this scourge of violence
18:05against women and girls
18:07through several actions.
18:09The first is
18:11a support to
18:13align with the commitments of
18:15the International Morocco,
18:17and it goes
18:19by pleading
18:21to support
18:23all legal reform processes
18:25to align
18:27the normative framework
18:29of Morocco to its international commitments,
18:31but also
18:33by strengthening capacity
18:35to support the various partners
18:37that are included in the chain
18:39of taking care of
18:41victims of violence, to provide
18:43quality services,
18:45essential services, but also to
18:47set up mechanisms of violence prevention.
18:49And also,
18:51we support our national partners
18:53in the production of data.
18:55As you know,
18:57data generation
18:59allows us to better orient
19:01political decisions and also
19:03to take into consideration
19:05the effects and
19:07tendencies of violence,
19:09whether in urban or rural
19:11perimeters.
19:13So, there is a lot of
19:15disparity, there is also
19:17a lot of work that remains to be done
19:19to respond even better
19:21to violence against women and girls.
19:23What are today the biggest
19:25obstacles or the main challenges
19:27that remain to be overcome
19:29in the fight against
19:31violence against women?
19:33The biggest
19:35obstacles that remain,
19:37in our opinion, would be
19:39to strengthen the mobilization of society
19:41and the awareness.
19:43There is a real work
19:45to be done at the level
19:47of awareness, to say
19:49no to violence,
19:51to fight against
19:53societal norms that consider
19:55whether it is at the level
19:57of intimacy, conjugal or family
19:59remains always a taboo.
20:01There is a real need
20:03for mobilization and a call for action
20:05that goes beyond the 16 days of activism.
20:07I may not have said it at the beginning
20:09of the interview,
20:11but the 16-day campaign
20:13starts on November 25,
20:15which celebrates the International Day
20:17of Fight Against Violence Against Women and Girls.
20:19And it goes until December 10,
20:21which coincides with the International Day
20:23of Human Rights.
20:25The two dates are very symbolic
20:27since they highlight the link
20:29between gender-based violence
20:31and human rights.
20:33To go back to the actions
20:35that remain to be done,
20:37it is necessary to raise awareness
20:39at a very young age
20:41in relation to this plague of violence.
20:43It is necessary to extend the channels
20:45of awareness and information.
20:47As an example,
20:49UNWOMEN launches tomorrow
20:51a film about women's rights
20:53in Rabat.
20:55We want to use the film channel
20:57to raise awareness
20:59about this plague
21:01and make a call
21:03through art
21:05and through cinema
21:07to fight against violence
21:09against women and girls.
21:11If we talk a little more
21:13about the legal framework,
21:15do the current laws
21:17sufficiently protect women
21:19against violence?
21:23I would answer by saying
21:25that there are very few countries,
21:27especially in the Arab region,
21:29that have a legal framework.
21:31So the fact that there is a law
21:33that prevents and protects
21:35women against any type of violence
21:37is already a very good step forward.
21:39As in any legal framework,
21:41there will always be adjustments
21:43to be made
21:45and alignments to be made
21:47with the needs of the country.
21:49But the urgency today
21:51is to inform about the existence
21:53of this law,
21:55to inform about the availability
21:57of the services
21:59that are made available
22:01to survivors of violence.
22:03It is also about raising awareness
22:05on a large scale.
22:09So to face this plague,
22:11you said it yourself,
22:13it is essential to raise awareness
22:15at an early age.
22:17In your opinion,
22:19what type of awareness programs
22:21are the most effective today?
22:23The most effective awareness
22:25at an early age
22:27takes place within families
22:29and also through the school system.
22:31There are tools that can be used
22:33in the school environment
22:35through the establishment
22:37to raise awareness
22:39about the plague
22:41of violence against girls
22:43and women in public places.
22:45But there is also
22:47a commitment
22:49within the family
22:51to raise awareness
22:53at an early age
22:55for men and boys
22:57about the plague of violence
22:59and to fight against
23:01violence against women and girls.
23:03To sum up,
23:05there is also
23:07a commitment to learn
23:09about social norms.
23:11And this takes place
23:13within the family.
23:15And to finish,
23:17according to the report
23:19published by the Viennese
23:21Office of the United Nations
23:23on Drugs and UN Women,
23:25140 women are killed
23:27every day,
23:29one woman every 10 minutes.
23:31Are these figures
23:33going down
23:35or are they going up?
23:37And what about Morocco?
23:41Unfortunately,
23:43the number of women
23:45victims of violence
23:47on a global scale
23:49is increasing.
23:51You mentioned this year's theme.
23:53The 16-day campaign
23:55of the edition 2024
23:57coincides with the 30th anniversary
23:59of the declaration
24:01of the Beijing Action Program,
24:03which is the global strategic framework
24:05that has been adopted
24:07to guide efforts
24:09to ensure gender equality
24:11and women's autonomy.
24:13This global framework
24:15is based on 12 priorities,
24:17including the fight against
24:19violence against women.
24:21We are approaching
24:23the 30th anniversary
24:25of the Beijing Declaration
24:27and we can see that
24:29violence against women
24:31is still a priority
24:33on a national scale.
24:35Every 10 years,
24:37there has been a survey
24:39on the prevalence of violence
24:41against women and girls.
24:43The last survey was conducted
24:45in 2019 and this survey
24:47showed that 82% of women
24:49have experienced a form of violence
24:51at least once in their lives
24:53in all contexts.
24:55In the 12 months
24:57prior to 2019,
24:5957% of women
25:01indicated they had experienced
25:03a form of violence.
25:05This is alarming.
25:07There is a need
25:09to fight against
25:11violence against women in Morocco
25:13through different channels,
25:15such as awareness-raising,
25:17information, and mobilisation
25:19through the call for action.
25:21Thank you, Mdm Noussari,
25:23for all these details.
25:25I remind you that you are a representative
25:27of UN Women in Morocco.
25:29Thank you very much.
25:31Dear viewers,
25:33thank you for watching.
