00:00Right, the drive is live. You see Clint there having a good hair day. You see Tyler right there as well, who I'll be honest, folks, I've been worried about Tyler.
00:13You should have been.
00:15This pretty crappy weekend.
00:19Ron, the visual of Tyler right now says you should be worried about him, and you were in the right spot being worried about him this weekend. Looks like he's been road hard and put up wet.
00:28Clint, I told you.
00:33And it wasn't frying that turkey either. Don't blame it on that damn turkey, Tyler.
00:37If Tyler would have come in with his eyebrows shaved, I wouldn't have been surprised at all. I wouldn't have thought anything different.
00:45Because Clint, I said it to you when I saw you in the press box at the start of the game, coming off a Saturday night, and what happened in the planes.
00:53I said, well, I'm worried about Tyler. And then the way this game was going, I said, oh God.
00:58And then I see a post about four hours ago from Tyler who has Will Levis doing that full split on those mayonnaise bottles.
01:07And that, I think that may have taken him over the top.
01:10Yeah, that guy. That's the guy that came in NRG yesterday and beat your ass.
01:14First AFC South win ever for Will Levis. Gotta love it.
01:20I was worried about you, man. And listen, you'll be able to let it out. Many of you will be able to let it out as well.
01:27Those of you on our 5-Hour Energy fan text line, 5-Hour Energy fan line, 5-Hour Energy, the official energy shot of Sports Radio 610.
01:36And football super fans, those of you on YouTube and Twitch, fire away as well as we love to hear from you.
01:45Mind you, a lot of this show is going to be with our guy D'Amico Ryan, the head coach.
01:52He is coming up at 3 o'clock sharp. I don't know if it's at 3 o'clock sharp, but that's around the time we expect to hear from him.
01:59And we will carry that live. Remember, it is Monday, so the D'Amico Ryan's coach's show will take over at 5 o'clock.
02:07So make sure you program that to hear what he's got to say.
02:11So you'll hear from him multiple times during the show and then right after our show, Clint.
02:19And I would imagine he will be talking about this latest breaking news, and it is not good news.
02:26I'm going to tell you that right now. I'll get your all's thoughts on this.
02:31And again, Clint, I continue to be worried about Tyler as more of this news continues to circulate.
02:40An MRI that was conducted on Jalen Petrie, who had left the game, which was called a shoulder issue.
02:49It is a tear of the pec, not a full tear, according to Wilson.
02:55But Jalen Petrie had an MRI conducted, and they will check to see if surgery will be something that is needed.
03:04This from Tom Palacero, that Texan standout safety Jalen Petrie is expected to miss multiple weeks in a partial pec tear suffered in the game on Sunday.
03:18As we said, no surgery as of now, but they will determine that on a later date.
03:23And listen, since that Jets game where I would say Clint, he was put in bad situations.
03:30He has been one of the best players, if not the best player on the defense.
03:34He has impacted the game in an amazing way.
03:38And they, when I say they, D'Amico and Coach Burke have done really good things to put him in the best positions possible.
03:46And now it looks like reports are he may be gone for an extended period of time.
03:51Yeah, this is rough.
03:53I mean, this is one fan favorite, great dude.
03:55I mean, gives you everything he's got.
03:57And the only complaint you have about him is the inability to do certain things over the years, whether it be at safety or nickel defender.
04:07You know, the play is all that you have really to ever say negative about this guy.
04:12And that's not to say his play is negative, just it's hard to play this game and not have negative moments,
04:16especially as close as we cover it.
04:18So a fan favorite that plays the game the way you want him to play the game, that is easy, easy, easy to root for.
04:26And when those guys get injured, even when you're in a pissed-off state that most fans are and should be after a Tennessee loss,
04:33you've got to feel for each of them.
04:35Then you jump to the player.
04:37As you mentioned, this is a guy that was trending in the right direction,
04:39a guy that has always had tremendous instincts, was using those instincts, making impact plays.
04:47I'll argue even over the last couple of years, he was in position to make big-time impact plays
04:53that would have shifted the outlook on who he is as a player, but he didn't always make those plays, right?
04:59And so it ended up being a negative.
05:01He was trending in a way this year where he was making more of those plays than he was missing.
05:05He's starting to get the love that he deserves, and to see him go out is tough,
05:10given the fact that he was trending in the right direction.
05:12Then you just look at it as a team, and you look at the nickel defender position.
05:16Once again, the Texans, I don't know why, while we spend a lot of time applauding D'Amico Rines and Nick Casario
05:24for what they've done, this nickel position has been a real doozy, man.
05:31You just let a guy like Dez King go, and I believe he's now with Baltimore.
05:36He's with the Ravens.
05:37Unless Baltimore's let him go recently, he's with the Ravens.
05:40And you let him go, and now you're in a spot again where you've got to bring Jimmy Ward
05:44out of his normal position of safety and bring him down and have him play nickel,
05:48which when he got here, he said he didn't really enjoy doing.
05:51He wanted to play safety, and now he's right back in that position of having to play that.
05:55And there were better options out there within your organization.
05:58And for some reason, we're sitting here again trying to figure out what they're going to do
06:04with the cover defenders.
06:05So I hate to see it for the player.
06:08I hate to see it for the trajectory the player was on.
06:11And really what matters, Ron, is moving forward.
06:16What does this look like for the Texans?
06:18They've got cover defender problems once again.
06:22Yeah, you said Jimmy Ward may slide down, and they'll have Jimmy Ward, Eric Murray,
06:29and Bullock on the field all the time now with this injury.
06:35So, yeah, that'll be interesting because Jeff Okuda, he didn't dress yesterday.
06:41He was inactive and didn't show that the slot seemed to be his deal
06:45in the short period of time he got in Dallas.
06:47Yeah, he looked like hell.
06:48Kadar Hallman got hurt yesterday.
06:50I don't know what's going on.
06:51I don't know what's going on.
06:52I haven't seen the extent of what happened to him.
06:55He is a guy that D'Amico has relied on in the past.
06:58But now, I mean, all of a sudden, you've got depth issues at safety.
07:02And you've got where, I mean, I just don't, Ron, you and I have talked about this.
07:07And, look, we are clearly Dez King guys.
07:11I do understand, however, that Dez King has some issues, what I believe,
07:16I've been led to believe are off the field,
07:18that just don't align with Nick Casario and D'Amico Ryan's,
07:23which typically you would say, okay, well, they're going to let that,
07:26they're going to let last year when they released him,
07:28when we were all going, what the hell are they doing?
07:30At cut date, they released him.
07:32Right?
07:33You let that go the other direction.
07:34But you keep flirting with the guy.
07:35You keep bringing the guy in.
07:36You keep taking whatever risk is associated with him being on your team
07:40and him not buying in and him having some issues off the field.
07:43Whatever risk is associated,
07:44you're willing to take those time and time and time again.
07:47And then you let the guy go at a time when, hell,
07:52he should have been playing if we're being honest.
07:53To some degree, he should have been playing.
07:55But let him go and literally within two weeks, not even two weeks,
07:58I mean, hell, eight days,
08:00you're at a spot where you desperately need that guy
08:04to keep this secondary together right now.
08:06It feels similar to the Cam Akers situation
08:10to where you cut a guy loose that felt like he, at times,
08:16should have been higher up on the depth chart.
08:18And then you cut him loose.
08:20And then, bam, you're back up.
08:22And Damian Pierce gets hurt again.
08:24And you're stuck without having his services
08:27and needing a backup running back to this in a similar vein.
08:31Absolutely.
08:32Absolutely.
08:33I mean, now, Cam Akers, to be clear,
08:34Cam Akers I don't believe has any off-the-field issues
08:36that would steer Nick and D'Amico from him.
08:38Yeah, just strictly meaning you cut him loose.
08:40Yeah.
08:41Yeah, I mean, to me on the outside,
08:44I mean, it's one of those that it just doesn't –
08:46there's no – it doesn't make sense.
08:48There's no rhyme or reason
08:50other than there's clearly a blind spot for Damian Pierce
08:53with this football team at the running back position.
08:56And for whatever reason, they don't see it.
09:00Now, injuries have also played into it at this point as well.
09:03And, you know, you've got a guy in Cam Akers that was, at the very least,
09:07whether you're a fan or not, is a very, very good backup to Joe Mixon.
09:12Because now not only are you without Cam Akers,
09:15now Joe Mixon is having to play more and more steps
09:18than you would like for him to play.
09:21So, yeah, that's very similar.
09:24Those are the two moves with two guys this season that you're just –
09:29they're head-scratchers when they happen.
09:31When it happened.
09:32And now they're biting your ass.
09:33Yeah.
09:34All right.
09:36We have a lot to get to.
09:37I do want to hear from the people on this one.
09:39Because I thought, Clint, you brought up an interesting thought.
09:42And I'm really intrigued to see where you are on this.
09:47And this to the people as well, those of you on the text line,
09:50those of you on YouTube and Twitch, go ahead and jump in on this.
09:54Where are you at on this with the team right now?
09:57Are you in the place where you're closer to the point of, hey,
10:02it's a long season that has ups and downs
10:05and the Texans are just in a really strong down right now.
10:09But things can get turned around and fixed
10:12and can compete at the level you think.
10:15Or are you closer to, man, Jalen Petrie's injury
10:21is just the latest piece into this thing falling apart.
10:25The sky is falling.
10:27Where are you on that 713-572-4610,
10:30those of you on YouTube and Twitch?
10:32Clint, I don't know about you, man.
10:34I feel like I'm getting by the day closer and closer
10:37to the sky is falling portion of this thing.
10:39Hell, I'm in the sky is falling pool and I'm in the deep end.
10:42I'm telling you.
10:43Oh, my God.
10:45I mean, it is tough to look at this stretch right now
10:52and watch the way they're playing and what they're doing
10:55and what has happened to the team
10:57and being the, A, they can get this thing fixed territory.
11:01Well, Ron, here's the thing, Ron,
11:03is that this shouldn't surprise anybody.
11:09Right?
11:10And I don't mean the loss of Tennessee should surprise everybody.
11:13But the outcome won't watch unfold.
11:17I mean, I've been hammered on social media.
11:20By the way, at Clint Sterner on Twitter,
11:22at Clint Sterner on Instagram,
11:23I'd greatly appreciate the follow right there.
11:25I've been hammered on social media for wanting D'Amico Ryans
11:29to not be Mr. Nice Guy,
11:31for wanting C.J. Stroud to quit talking about joy and happy
11:34and be and have fun and all this kind of crap.
11:36Right?
11:37I've been begging for Bobby Slowick and D'Amico Ryans
11:40to talk about the lack of physicality on this offensive line
11:43and the real issues that are there time and time and time again.
11:49And now, again, everybody, what do you want them to say?
11:54Look, here's the deal, is I don't give a damn what they say to us.
11:59What I want to see is I want to see a product,
12:02a football product that is the Houston Texans,
12:05that it is blatantly obvious that these guys have been held accountable,
12:11that these guys are going to be disciplined
12:14and not get nine penalties for 83 yards in the second half of a game
12:18that you should have skull drugged the Tennessee Titans.
12:21Right?
12:22The same issues that we were having two months ago
12:24we're having with the Texans right now.
12:27The same damn problems.
12:28You know what that is?
12:29You're either coaching it or you're allowing it.
12:31Like I said back then, what do you want them to say?
12:34I want somebody to step up there and quit talking about,
12:37oh, well, we're doing the same things in the second half
12:40that we're doing in the first half.
12:41It's all execution.
12:43Figure it out.
12:44Right?
12:45And when you don't do that, when you go about your business as,
12:47well, it's a long season, man, one game at a time,
12:51we're on to the next, we're happy to be here,
12:53we're lucky to have this football for a living.
12:57Right?
12:58When you take that kind of approach, you look up and you're running out of time
13:02and no problems have been fixed.
13:04No problems have been solved.
13:06Right?
13:07And it's just that is why I absolutely hate the way that they approach things.
13:15And, again, I'm not even talking about necessarily what they tell us.
13:20The problem is what they tell us mirrors exactly what happens on the field.
13:26So you look at it and you go either the team is getting the same message
13:29that we're getting and everything's going to be okay, and, hey, Laramie,
13:32hey, Titus, don't worry about it, man.
13:34You're going to be all right.
13:35Hey, Shaq Mason, don't worry about it, man.
13:37We're going to be just fine.
13:39Right?
13:40It's a long season.
13:41We'll get this figured out.
13:42We just got to execute better.
13:43And they're going out there and doing the same stuff over and over again.
13:46Or, right, which that's pissy poor.
13:48Or there is a – I mean, D'Amico is putting his foot down
13:52and he's holding these guys accountable and he's preaching physicality
13:56and he's preaching strain and he's preaching finish,
13:58and they're going out there and not doing it
14:00and they're not being held accountable.
14:02Like which one is it?
14:03Take your pick.
14:04They're both negative.
14:05You can't win football games like that in the NFL.
14:07You can culture your way to eight or nine wins, and I think they do that.
14:12I think they find a way to get to eight or nine wins.
14:14Well, they better win one more.
14:18After yesterday's performance, where are you at on that?
14:20You're right.
14:21You're right.
14:22You're right.
14:23I mean, how many games they got left?
14:24What are we, seven and five?
14:25What is that, 12 games?
14:26Yeah, they got five more left.
14:27They got five left?
14:28What do you got, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Miami, Kansas City, and Baltimore?
14:32Yeah.
14:33Hey, I hate to break it to you, but –
14:34They're capable of losing, though, if you look at it.
14:38They just lost to Tennessee at home.
14:40So they're capable – they better not lose to no damn Mack Jones.
14:44But they just lost to –
14:46If you came to me –
14:47They just lost to Mayonnaise.
14:48Bingo.
14:49If you came to me a week ago and said,
14:50hey, man, you got to bet a house payment on it.
14:52Does this team lose to Mack Jones?
14:54They're going to lose to one.
14:55Do they lose to Mack Jones or Will Levis?
14:57I'd say Mack Jones 10 out of 10 times.
15:00Yeah.
15:0110 out of 10 times.
15:02Yeah.
15:03Because Mack will have –
15:04Mack has the ability to Charlie check down you to a bunch of field goals
15:08and beat you.
15:09I didn't think there was any way in hell Will Levis was going to quarterback
15:11this football team to explosives to beat you.
15:15But he did go full Will Levis and still.
15:17He tried.
15:19Their special teams did too.
15:20I don't know who tried harder.
15:23I don't know who gets the game ball, Will Levis or the special teams.
15:27They were trying to work with you.
15:28I'm seeing a lot of people here, as we said, where are you at?
15:30Are you at the deep end or are you still in a space that there is some belief
15:35that they can kind of get this thing right?
15:38Someone texted in and said, hell, I'm deep in the deep end right with you, Clint.
15:43Somebody will throw us a noodle and a Coors Light.
15:45We'll be all right.
15:46The sky is falling and CJ looks like he's turned out.
15:49He is turned out with his OC.
15:56The head coach is communicating too much and not enough to the coordinators.
16:02I think they can get things right after the bye.
16:07Someone texted in.
16:08You're all fixable.
16:11It does look like a lot of people are pushing this thing to playoffs.
16:16I'm interested.
16:17Someone just texted in.
16:18Deep end show.
16:19It's Ron.
16:20I'm curious.
16:21Let's get the most positive person I can think of.
16:25Tyler, I know you're struggling.
16:29Maybe this ain't the best day to do it with you.
16:31I'm looking at you right now.
16:33Maybe Tyler needs a day.
16:34Are you in the deep end?
16:36I mean, what's the deep end?
16:38Knowing that we were sold BS with what's going on with this football team in our town right now.
16:45Then, yeah.
16:47I'm off in the hell of a big part of the deep end.
16:50Yeah.
16:51So, you don't get the sense there's turning this thing around?
16:55Not right now.
16:56Hell, no.
16:57Why would I?
16:58Why would any of you?
17:00And I like to be the optimist.
17:02I like to think of myself that I hold some optimism on most things.
17:06Why would anyone who isn't insane?
17:09Like, why would you think that right now?
17:11Why would your mind work in such a way to where you would think, yep, after this bye week, we're going?
17:16No.
17:17No, there's nothing good that came out of yesterday except for a defense that got eight sacks.
17:21You still couldn't get the dub.
17:23And your defense is going to be exhausted one more game into this season.
17:26So, no, I ain't got a lot of good to say.
17:28God dang.
17:29Dang.
17:30The Texas had lost and then lost Tyler.
17:33I mean, let me tell you where T's at right now, Ron.
17:36We done got on that Guadalupe River.
17:38It's about a five- to six-hour float.
17:41And over that first little waterfall, our cooler that had our, I mean, the tube that had our ice chest in it flipped over,
17:50and there was a bunch of them scoundrels down there with masks, and they were stealing our beer and everything.
17:54So, we're down to about a six-pack worth to go.
17:57And then we get another hour into it, and Tyler's inner tube pops.
18:02So, now we're no beer and a popped inner tube.
18:06Somehow, we got to get three, four more hours down this river.
18:09Hey, but you know that tube's fixable, man.
18:11Yeah, and somebody from the shore is yelling at you.
18:14Hey, I can fix that tube for about a hundred dollars.
18:17Things are fixable.
18:19Tyler's in a bad spot now, a bad spot.
18:22No, I knew it.
18:23I could feel it.
18:24I didn't even need to be there.
18:26Is there a worse place to be in, though, Tyler, right there?
18:29About a six-hour float, drop your beer over the first waterfall, and then somebody's inner tubing your group.
18:35And not a female, by the way.
18:36We've had that happen with a female, and it actually turned out really well for you, boy.
18:39But when it's not a female, it's one of your buddy's tubes pops.
18:43Oh, it's awful.
18:44And it's steaming ass hot outside.
18:46The only thing that makes it worse is if about another hour into it, the sun, it's cloudy, and it starts to rain a little bit,
18:52and that cold-ass river is tearing you up.
18:54Yeah, Texans are in a bad spot.
18:56I'm in a bad spot, Ronnie.
18:57Lord, Tyler, you lose Tyler, boy, you're in a bad spot.
