00:00In the continuation of Batang Pinoy 2024 in Puerto Princesa,

00:04let's welcome the student-athletes who participated in the second day of the archery competition

00:10in the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex in Martes.

00:13Here is our teammate, Daryl Oclares.

00:17Not only does it make the eyes watery, but it also strengthens the mind.

00:22That's how archery can be described as one of the centerpiece sports of the people of Batang Pinoy.

00:28Compared to the previous editions of the National Grassroots Multisport Competition,

00:33it is noteworthy that more people participated this year,

00:36which is estimated to reach 400 young archers.

00:40This is the total number distributed by the 1988 Seoul Olympian archer Roel Merto

00:45and Philippine team compound archer Paul Martin de la Cruz.

00:49Now a Filipino, Merto led the team from Negros Oriental

00:54while De la Cruz led the team from Pasig.

00:58We have a very good performance as a team and actually,

01:01the team is very capable for joining the national team.

01:05It's nice because there are more archers than during my time.

01:12It's increasing now because there are more coaches and archers.

01:18Unlike before, when we were just a few,

01:22there were only a few coaches, now there are more.

01:25It's like the archers' volume tripled.

01:28As Batikang Archers, Merto and de la Cruz will be given advice

01:33to the young archers who are in Batang Pinoy this year.

01:38We should continue shooting and they're not going to stop practicing in archery.

01:44The more important for these kids is they're going to keep going to the competition.

01:50They really need exposure.

01:51That's what I did with my players.

01:54Enjoy, have fun.

01:56That's what you shouldn't lose in sports, especially in archery.

02:00They should just enjoy it.

02:02After the qualification rounds and bronze medal games,

02:07the gold medal match will be held on November 28.
