Authorities have detained eight individuals, including a government pensioner, suspected of following the deviant "Millah Ibrahim" teachings during four separate raids in Melaka.

The early-morning joint operation on Thursday (Nov 28) also saw the arrest of three married couples and two other men, aged between 28 and 72.

00:25Malacca's Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee Chairman Datuk
00:30Rahmad Mariman said the raids were conducted by the state Islamic Religious Affairs Department
00:36and the police.
00:38The arrests followed public complaints about the spread and practice of Mila Ibrahim's
00:42teachings, which have been officially declared deviant and contrary to Islamic principles
00:47in the state.
00:48Rahmad said the group's teachings were carried out online through specific applications and
00:53actively recruiting new members from among their family members and acquaintances.
00:59He added that those apprehended include private employees, self-employed individuals and housewives.
01:06Several items linked to the group were also seized, including books, laptops and mobile phones.
01:14The suspects are being investigated under Section 63 of the Sharia Offences Enactment
01:19of Malacca, 1991.
