00:00What these figures show is that the Tories totally lost control of our immigration system
00:04if what we've seen is that in the space of four years net migration quadrupled to almost
00:11a million.
00:12We absolutely believe that net migration has to come down, but in order to do that we need
00:17to go further.
00:18That's why we believe that you need to tackle the causes of net migration including linking
00:24skills and visa policies, so you're addressing those gaps in skills and reducing the reliance
00:28on overseas recruitment, but it's also why today I set out new measures, tough measures
00:35to tackle employers who abuse our visa system and flout the rules.
00:40I think what people can see is that the record of the Tories where we saw returns for those
00:45who have no right to be here dropping by 25%, where we saw an asylum system that we inherited
00:51that collapsed with a 75% cut in decision making, people have seen that the system has
00:57been broken and the Tories have lost control.
00:59What we believe is that you need to have an immigration system that is fair, that is controlled
01:03and that is managed and that's why the fact that we have a plan, that we are looking at
01:07what is driving net migration and we have a plan to address it, linking skills policy
01:12and visa policy, is why people will see that they can have confidence in the way we're
01:16working and that we are looking to have an immigration system working in the interests
01:20of our country.
