00:00Thousands of farmers in Lukban, Quezon will benefit from the Greenhouse and Post-Harvest Facilities
00:07which is a project of the South Korean government.
00:10According to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,
00:13it will strengthen the ties between the two countries.
00:18This is the center of the news of Gav Villegas.
00:23Before the program, the President selected the plants inside the Greenhouse and Post-Harvest Facilities
00:28where high-yield vegetables such as cucumber, romaine lettuce, and french beans are grown and sold by farmers.
00:35In his statement, the President said that the Greenhouses and Post-Harvest Facilities
00:41will help small communities to improve their ability to export their products.
00:47The President also said that the ties between the Philippines and South Korea
00:52will be strengthened through market access for agricultural products of the country,
00:57particularly tropical fruits such as pineapple and banana due to the ratification of the Free Trade Agreement.
01:03President R. Marcos thanked the South Korean government for their continued support.
01:08We are also thankful to the Republic of Korea for the overwhelming support of your National Assembly
01:15for the ratification of our FTA which came much earlier than we had expected.
01:22You have reinforced our call for a brighter and more sustainable future for all.
01:27According to Agriculture Secretary Francisco Chu Laurel Jr.,
01:30the so-called project is in line with the needs of the agricultural sector.
01:35The role of nature in the success of the project is also important in the face of climate change.
01:41This greenhouse represents more than just infrastructure.
01:45It symbolizes innovation, hope, and power of collaboration
01:49as we work together to uplift the lives of our farming communities.
01:53It reflects our collective vision of sustainable farming that embraces modern solutions
01:58and adapts to the ever-evolving needs of the sector.
02:02Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Sang-hwa also shared the South Korean plan
02:07to build the country's first Korea Agricultural Machinery Industrial Complex
02:12which will start next year.
02:15According to Ambassador Lee, 4,000 metric tons of rice from South Korea
02:20will arrive in the Philippines through the ASEAN Plus-3 Emergency Rice Reserve.
02:25Half of it will be delivered to the country today
02:28while the rest will possibly arrive in the country in January of next year.
02:33For Lukban Mayor Agustin Villaverde, this event is historic
02:38and he thanked the farmers.
02:40Although we can say that the industry of agriculture in Lukban is advanced,
02:46we also need to keep up with the changing times.
02:51In order for this to be even more advanced,
02:54our farmers need to have more knowledge and technology
03:00so that the rice and maybe even the higher yields can be increased.
03:06The cities of Sinaloan in Laguna and Saragossa in Nueva Ecija
03:12are also among the pilot villages of COPEA in the country.
03:15COPEA is the Official Development Assistance Program of the Rural Development Administration
03:20which is the largest agricultural research and development organization in South Korea.
03:25It facilitates the transfer of Korean agriculture technology
03:29to farmers from developing countries like the Philippines
03:33which can help increase their income,
03:36market their high-value crops to improve and sustain their livelihood
03:41so that they can be self-sufficient.
