00:00Tens of thousands took to the streets of Valencia on Saturday, one month after floods devastated
00:05the region.
00:07Citizens and survivors are angry about what they consider to be negligent or inept handling
00:12of the natural disaster.
00:14At least 230 people died, and thousands of homes and vehicles were destroyed or ruined.
00:20If a warning had been issued, there wouldn't have been so many deaths.
00:26A flood is a flood, but timely warnings can save lives.
00:29What went wrong, incompetence.
00:33Politicians, particularly our regional president, must take responsibility.
00:40He should resign immediately, because his failure to fulfil his duties is unforgivable.
00:51On one hand, people are exhausted.
00:53On the other, they are furious.
00:55I'm not sure which will prove to be more powerful, fury or fatigue.
01:00This was the second major march asking for regional president Carlos Mathón to step
01:06down.
01:07Mathón's administration did not issue flood alerts to people's cell phones, though flooding
01:12had already started in some areas.
01:14Mathón has admitted that he made errors, but has refused to resign, instead laying
01:20the blame on the national government's body responsible for measuring water flows, which
01:24he says failed to send sufficient warnings.
01:28Cities were overwhelmed with the scope of the damage and took days to scale up rescue
01:33and recovery efforts.
01:34Affected towns are still cleaning up layers of mud left by rushing waters.
