Philippines’ Sahagun bags first gold in BIMP-EAGA Games
Filipino tanker Phillip Adrian Sahagun claimed the first overall gold medal at the 2024 Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines - East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Friendship Games at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex in Puerto Princesa on December 2, 2024.
Sahagun, 21, won by a hair as he clocked 2:13.52 in the boys 200m individual medley, just 0.31 seconds faster than silver medalist Hidayatullah Aril.
Another Philippine swimmer, Rodolfo Apilado III, registered 2:20.82 to complete the podium finishers of the first event in the tournament.

00:10Because two weeks ago, I just finished U-Up and I didn't really prepare for this because I wanted to rest.
00:17So, that's how it is. After U-Up, one week, no training at all.
00:24It's not like I'm partying. I've only been training for three days this week.
00:30So, I didn't really expect to perform well.
00:34But, my mindset is simp for the Philippines.
00:40During those four laps, I felt like I was left behind.
00:44During the third lap, and the last lap, of course, I didn't have any training.
00:49I could feel the pain in my body.
00:53I could see that I was running out of breath.
00:55But, I just had to push. I was there. I was the first one.
00:59I wasn't going to give up the gold. That was mine.
