00:00The public's awareness of HIV and AIDS
00:03was further expanded on World AIDS Day yesterday.
00:06This was particularly targeted at young people.
00:10Isaiah Mirapuentes was at the center of the news.
00:14Lorence has been diagnosed with HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus for 11 years.
00:20In 2013, she found out that she was infected with the virus.
00:25During the time that I was diagnosed with HIV,
00:28I faced stigma, I faced discrimination.
00:31It's because the people surrounding us are uneducated about HIV and AIDS.
00:38She admitted that her situation was not easy.
00:41One of the most painful experiences
00:44was the isolation of her companions in the company she was working for.
00:48At one point, she was separating her stuff from others.
00:52But it didn't hurt that even though her family was there,
00:56the stigma was still heavy on her.
01:00I experienced discrimination inside the household.
01:03So what I just pushed through is to keep educating my family members about HIV
01:09so that we could break that kind of stigma.
01:11But as time went by,
01:14the information about HIV gradually became clearer.
01:18Now, because of her acceptance and following some medical methods,
01:23she continues to recover from her severe calvary.
01:27Here in the Philippines, according to the Department of Health,
01:3050 people a day are diagnosed with HIV.
01:34Most of them are young people, 15 to 24 years old.
01:3994% of them are males and 6% are females.
01:44But in the second quarter of this year,
01:46the number of HIV cases in the country dropped by a lot.
01:49But...
01:50Our sexually transmitted diseases are increasing.
01:54Syphilis, gonorrhea, not just HIV.
01:59So again, risky behavior.
02:01So you can't just prepare.
02:04Because if you just prepare,
02:06you'll get syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia.
02:10The DOH aims to eliminate stigma
02:12or misperception of HIV-positive people.
02:16Stigma is usually due to lack of knowledge.
02:20And that's where your help is needed.
02:22HIV is not a new disease.
02:25It was discovered long ago, in 1983.
02:27There are already drugs for it, anti-retrovirals.
02:30The drugs are free,
02:32available in various treatment hubs in the country.
02:35On the first day of December,
02:37World AIDS Day is celebrated here in the Philippines.
02:40The World AIDS Day Walk was held.
02:43As for the various cities and government agencies,
02:46they were not affected by the rain.
02:47And they walked together on several streets
02:50in Ortega's Pasig City.
02:52HIV is not a new disease.
02:54As far as we know,
02:56a person with a feeling of being far from any discrimination
03:02and judgment can live normally.
03:03Isaiah Mirafuentes,
03:05for Pambansang TV in the new Philippines.
