Fire and Rescue Department alert for monsoon surge amidst flood recovery

As eight states nationwide gradually recover from floods, the Fire and Rescue Department remains vigilant for the upcoming monsoon surge episodes.  Department director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said their operations are initially planned for mid-December, citing past incidents like the Batang Kali landslide in 2022, which also occurred around that time. 01:14or send students who are involved in flood areas to the accommodation set up.

01:21Yesterday, we have arranged for 502 students to be sent to the accommodation in Kelantan.

01:31And today, there is something special.

01:33We have also arranged for 22 teachers to go to the emergency room

01:39and receive questions to allow students to go to the emergency room.

01:44This is something that we did not plan beforehand,

01:49but alhamdulillah, thanks to the efforts and arrangements,

01:55I believe that all parties at the moment are making sacrifices

01:59and are also trying to help to ease any difficulties related to the disaster.

02:05For the flood this year, is the impact as expected by JDBM or is it more drastic?

02:14I have made the initial information related to our focus in December.

02:20For this, we do not expect where it will start and where it will be big.

02:26But the initial forecast as Meteorology Malaysia said that heavy rain will fall,

02:34especially in December.

02:37Somehow it came a little early, right?

02:39So, our preparation is also in favour of December.

02:44But as I said earlier, it's like a long-term case,

02:49but we did not expect the water to rise so fast.
