00:00The Department of Agriculture is assisting in allocating half-rice to all foodstuffs in the country to avoid wasting rice.

00:12This issue was discussed by Bernadette Reyes in Barangay Saksi Online.

00:20For many Filipinos, rice is life.

00:23That's why in restaurants and restaurants, rice cannot be left out of the menu.

00:28But even though this is what most people eat, it is said that a lot of rice is still wasted and not eaten up.

00:34In this food, a plastic full of rice is wasted every day.

00:39In our everyday life, there is always at least half-rice or sometimes one-fourth.

00:48Based on a study, more than 6.5 grams or more than a tablespoon of rice is wasted by a Filipino every day.

00:57And when combined, it amounts to 255,000 metric tons of rice per year or equivalent to more than 5 million sacks.

01:06If we combine it with all the population during that year, it can feed 2.79 million Filipinos for a year.

01:13I don't want to get angry if it's not eaten up. I said if you're going to eat it, just eat it up.

01:18To avoid food wastage, the Department of Agriculture supports the program to have half-rice servings in restaurants and restaurants like this.

01:28The Secretary wants to revive the bill that offers half-rice.

01:33For example, the 255,000 metric tons at Php 43 per kilo, that will translate to about Php 3.6 billion worth of rice annually.

01:48So that's a big fund.

01:50According to PhilRice, there are 47 local ordinances regarding the sale of half-rice in restaurants.

01:56They say it's a nationwide target.

01:58Government agencies can first and foremost have an executive order to promote the sale of half-rice in restaurants across the country.

02:11One of them is in favor because half-rice servings are already enough and asked for more if it's not enough.

02:18Another one is also in favor, especially for fast-food chains.

02:21Another one commented that the price of rice should go down, not the serving of rice.

02:27And another one said that what should be promoted is the livelihood of farmers.

02:31There are also many who don't want to plant rice.

02:34It's just right for your taste, not too much.

02:36In most restaurants, you really leave a lot of land. It's a waste. The food will be thrown away.
