00:42Corina Machado failed after raising an evidently low attendance despite being strongly promoted
00:47by international media.
00:55Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos, from the Teresa Studios in
00:59Havana, Cuba.
01:00We begin with the news.
01:19In Palestine, the Israeli Occupation Army continues with its indiscriminate attacks
01:23against the civilian population of the Gaza Strip, killing dozens of people during the
01:27last hours.
01:28Local media reported that several casualties were recorded after fire-hitting fighter jets
01:32bombed a house in Jabalia camp, north of Gaza.
01:35Another attack targeted a shelter school in the same area, leaving eight civilians wounded.
01:39On Sunday night, another 10 people were killed after the bombing of a house in Bethlehem.
01:44The genocide perpetrated by Israel continues despite U.N. Security Council resolutions
01:48for an immediate ceasefire and International Court of Justice directives urging measures
01:53to prevent genocide and to relieve the appalling humanitarian situation in Gaza.
02:05And the Israeli genocidal forces hit the occupied West Bank, annihilating at least four people.
02:11Israeli forces launched a drone in Sirtown, near Jenin, on Sunday, bringing about the
02:17four deaths.
02:18In this regard, the Palestinian Health Ministry detailed that the fatal victims were aged
02:22from 23 to 35 years old.
02:24Moreover, the official Palestinian Wafaa News Agency detailed that after the attack, a large
02:29group of Israeli soldiers moved into the area to take over the nearby olive groves.
02:33In all, at least 780 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank, adding to
02:37the Palestinian death toll of 44,429 since the onset of the genocide in October 2023.
02:51In the morning, the planes came and started bombing this rugged area in which we are located.
02:55Shortly after that, the army stormed the entire area.
02:59They declared it a closed military zone.
03:03In Palestine, the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, called for the creation of an international
03:10committee to investigate Israel for using banned weapons in Gaza.
03:13In a statement, the movement highlighted the horrifying testimonies of citizens and doctors
03:18in the north of the coastal enclave, which has been suffering from massive operation
03:22by Israeli forces for almost two months, citing cases of attacks with munitions that caused
03:27the vaporization of bodies, said to be a sign of the use of prohibited weapons.
03:32In this regard, Hamas called on the international community, especially the United Nations,
03:36to form a working group to analyze the issue on the ground and address the widespread violations
03:41of international law committed against unarmed civilians.
03:54Arab leaders demanded Monday an immediate halt to the Israeli attacks on the Palestinian
03:59people during the 45th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council held in Kuwait.
04:04In an official statement, the GCC leaders underscored their strong support for the Palestinian
04:09cause and its sovereignty over all Palestinian territories occupied since June 1967.
04:14They further urged for the establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem
04:19as its capital.
04:20In this regard, the Council's Secretary General Yassin al-Boudaoui stressed the need for the
04:25international community to take steps on working comprehensively to achieve an immediate
04:29and permanent ceasefire.
04:37The Supreme Council called for an end to the killings and collective punishment in Gaza,
04:41the displacement of the population, and the destruction of civilian facilities and infrastructure,
04:46including health facilities, schools, and places of worship, in clear violation of international
04:52law and international humanitarian law.
04:54The Council urged for meddling in to safeguard civilians, stop the war, and sponsor serious
05:00negotiations to reach sustainable solutions.
05:04Likewise, the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the constant Israeli aggressions
05:11toward Lebanon.
05:16The leaders of the GCC countries condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression toward Lebanon
05:20and warned against the aftermaths of keeping up and broadening the conflict, which will
05:24lead to dire consequences for the regional peoples and international peace and security.
05:33In addition, the Secretary General praised the temporary ceasefire agreement in Lebanon,
05:36expressing his will for this to be a step closer to the end of the conflict.
05:45The Supreme Council welcomed the temporary ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, and the entity
05:49looked forward to it being a step toward stopping the war, the withdrawal of Israel
05:53from Lebanese territory, the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701, and the
05:59return of the displaced and immigrants to their homes.
06:01The leaders expressed their full solidarity with the brotherly Lebanese people, recalling
06:06the efforts of the state of Kuwait and the GCC initiative on Lebanon.
06:13And now we have a short break coming up.
06:40Welcome back.
06:41The Russian government warns that U.S. threats to impose tariffs for the exclusive use of
06:46the U.S. dollar will raise the BRICS' will to trade with their domestic currencies.
06:50The spokesperson of Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, announced to strengthen the trade policies
06:54of the BRICS agenda following the statements of the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump about
06:59imposing trade tariffs on all products of the BRICS countries.
07:02The authority further ensured that the U.S. dollar is no longer enticing as a reserve
07:06currency, neither for the BRICS nor for the world.
07:09Moreover, Peskov foresaw that the decline in the use of the U.S. dollar will continue
07:13to take its course.
07:15Subsequently, the BRICS have been debating on the introduction of a joint currency from
07:19August 2023 to reduce dependence on the U.S. dollar and euro, in addition to defending
07:24the country's sovereignties.
07:32The ruling Social Democratic Party will have won Romania's parliamentary elections with
07:3626% of the votes, according to the initial expose after voting stations closed.
07:41The ultranationalist alliance for the Union of Romanians would have been in second place
07:46with up to 20% of the ballots, and in third place the ruling National Liberal Party with
07:51around 15%.
07:52In this context, analysts had expected a shift to the right in Romania after the unexpected
07:57victory of Călin Gheorghe Ghescu in the presidential election a week ago.
08:01The Greek Council ratified the polls, which last week failed because they did not predict
08:06Gheorghe Ghescu's victory.
08:15And the opposition Social Democratic Alliance has won the early legislative elections in
08:19Iceland and could form a government, but it would need the support of two other political
08:23forces, according to the final tally released by the electoral authority.
08:26With all the votes counted, the Social Democrats have obtained 20.8%, ahead of the Conservative
08:32Independence Party, or the primaries of Janine Benediktson, with 19.4%, and the Liberal Reform
08:39and Order Opposition Force with 15.8%.
08:41The result represents the second electoral defeat of the Independence Party since Iceland
08:46separated from Denmark in 1944, a hard blow for the coalition that has governed for the
08:51last seven years.
09:00And the Eastern Route Pipeline connecting China to Russia initiated its operations on
09:04Monday, so experts inform we will be able to transport up to 38 billion cubic meters
09:08of natural gas per year.
09:10The project has a single pipeline of over 5,000 km.
09:13Currently, it is considered the largest gas pipeline in the country, as it extends from
09:18the Heihe town to Shanghai.
09:19Furthermore, the supply will meet the annual gas needs of over 450 million people in nine
09:24provinces and regions.
09:25In addition to its importance for China, the Chinese-Russian gas pipeline showcases
09:30the growing energy collaboration with Russia and the strengthening of its exports to Asia
09:35after the Western sanctions due to the conflict in Ukraine.
09:44The launch of the pipeline significantly improves the reliability and flexibility of gas supply
09:49in eastern China.
09:51The project's annual supply capacity has grown from the initial 5 billion cubic meters
09:55to 38 billion cubic meters today, ensuring sufficient gas supply for peak demand periods
10:01that will extend from this winter to next spring.
10:08And South Africa assumed on Sunday the rotating presidency of the G20 under the theme Solidarity,
10:14Equality and Sustainability until November 31, 2025.
10:18South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said that during this term he will address inequality,
10:23which is a major threat to global economic growth.
10:26In addition, Ramaphosa expressed his intention to continue the trend set during the Brazilian
10:30administration, which focused on social issues, the reform of international institutions and
10:35climate crisis.
10:36The recent inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 has raised
10:40expectations and is seen as an opportunity to defend the continent's interests in this
10:45international forum.
10:55And in Guinea, dozens of people were killed in clashes between fans during a football
10:59match.
11:00Authorities informed that dissatisfaction with the referees' decisions favoring the
11:04home team prompted visitors to initiate violent actions and clashes with the police.
11:09As a result, the security teams fired tear gas in order to contain the angry mob and
11:14to disperse the crowd.
11:16In this context, so far there have been no official reports on the number of casualties.
11:30The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has warned of a resurgence of chemical
11:34weapons that threatens progress toward ending their use on the planet.
11:38On the World Day of Remembrance for all victims of chemical weapons, the organization's chief
11:42Guterres also urged the global community to speak with one voice and reaffirm his commitment
11:47to the elimination of chemical weapons.
11:49Guterres also urged to fulfill the promise of the Pact for the Future, which calls for
11:53a world free of chemical weapons.
11:55Likewise, the Chemical Weapons Convention prohibits the development, production, stockpiling
12:00and use of these menaces and mandates the destruction of existing production facilities.

12:43Welcome back.
12:52In Venezuela, the demonstration called by the far-right opposition leader María Corina
12:56Machado failed after raising a low attendance despite being strongly promoted by international
13:01media.
13:02In contrast with the mobilizations in defense of peace and in spite of the media strategies
13:06employed to promote participation in the social networks, the far-right did not manage to
13:10gather people at the points established for the rally.
13:14The low attendance demonstrates the lack of interest of their followers in the mobilization
13:18and, more specifically, in the Venezuelan far-right figures, who have failed to keep
13:22their promises, especially that of staying in the country.
13:26The Venezuelan international tourism firm closed its position in the country as an attractive
13:34international destination and promoting its economic development.
13:38Venezuela is a country at peace.
13:46It is a safe country.
13:48And it is a country that, despite unilateral sanctions, is growing and advancing in prosperity.
13:57Venezuela is not stopped by anyone, and this must also be said, this is a recognition to
14:02our president.
14:05It is a recognition to the persistence and courage of a man who, despite immense difficulties,
14:11remains strong.
14:13He manages to face the sanctions and grows together with his people.
14:18So the Fitvin has achieved several objectives.
14:23There is a political objective, which is the recognition of the country, there is an economic
14:28objective, which is a country that grows in the midst of difficulties, and there is a
14:33human objective, which is the reunion with the people.
14:38We see here the representatives of the BRICS, we have Russia here, we have China, and we
14:44also have South Africa, the four of them represent, almost, half of the population of the world.
15:04Negotiations in South Korea on a treaty to tackle the global plastic pollution crisis
15:08failed to reach an agreement, and they will continue next year.
15:11Negotiations in Busan, a poor city in South Korea, failed to produce the first legally
15:16binding treaty on plastic pollution by the end of 2024.
15:19Some plastic-producing countries and oil and gas nations failed to agree on production
15:24limits.
15:25For any proposals to be included in the treaty, all nations must agree.
15:29The world produces more than 400 million tons of new plastic every year, and without
15:33a policy change, it could increase as much as 70% by 2040.
15:43We have made significant progress in Busan, in our collective effort to address plastic
15:49pollution, including its impact on the marine environment.
15:54However, our work is far from complete, and we must remain pragmatic as we continue collaborating
16:03toward our shared goal.
16:12We have tested the resilience of our planet to its limit.
16:16Now is the time for us to push our own limits and honor the trust placed in us.
16:24You have the INC Secretariat and my unwavering support to get this done.
16:35Thai authorities raised the death toll from 9 to 22 as a result of floods affecting the
16:39south of the country.
16:41This term has further raised over 664,000 homes, making the government find shelters
16:46to over 22,000 evacuees.
16:48In addition, disaster prevention authorities reported that floods continue hitting seven
16:52provinces, so the alert is expected to be kept until Thursday.
16:55In the past 15 days, storms have caused severe flash floods in Malaysia, namely in the northern
17:00states, leaving at least three deaths and over 131,000 evacuees.
17:13Torrential rains flooded homes, businesses and roads on Sunday on the Greek island of
17:17Rhodes, as storm Bora plunges the country for a second day.
17:21No injuries were reported in Rhodes, but firefighters received dozens of evacuation calls.
17:26Flooding swept cars and debris into the town of Lalissos, damaging people's homes and property.
17:31On the other hand, two men had died on the island of Lemnos as torrential rains and hurricane-force
17:36winds had caused also flooding.
17:39According to the National Meteorological Service, damage has also been reported in Greece's
17:43second-largest city, Thessaloniki, on the mainline, as rain and storms are likely to
17:49affect most of the country in the coming hours.
18:00In the United States, the first major snowfall of the season is blanketing cities in upstate
18:04New York and northwestern Pennsylvania as the hectic holiday travel and shopping weekend
18:08comes to an end.
18:10Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro signed a disaster emergency proclamation on Saturday
18:14and said that parts of Erie County in the northwest received nearly two feet of snow,
18:19with more expected to fall through Monday night.
18:21According to authorities, Pennsylvania State Police responded to nearly 200 incidents during
18:26the 24-hour period.
18:27From 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, numbing cold and heavy snow could persist into next
18:33week and cause hazards in the Great Lakes, Plains and Midwest regions.
18:45The President of the United States, Joe Biden, pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, for two criminal
18:50charges related to weapons and tax convictions in Delaware and California.
18:55In a statement, President Joe Biden said he had signed a pardon for his son Hunter on
18:58two criminal charges, arguing that they were politically motivated.
19:01This decision contradicts the head of state's previous statements that he would not interfere
19:06in the U.S. Justice Department's sentencing and would not use the extraordinary powers
19:11of the presidency to benefit members of his family.
19:14More than 50,000 people gathered in Cape Town, South Africa, as the festive light switch-on
19:35event officially began on the first day of December.
19:38The theme for this year's event was Cape Town, People of Hope, and crowds gathered in the
19:43heart of the city for the annual festive light switch-on.
19:47With a history spanning over five decades, the city of Cape Town has illuminated some
19:51of its streets with dimmed lights to usher in the festive season.
19:55The festive light switch-on has become a beloved tradition, with thousands of families gathering
20:00to witness the magical transformation of the city streets into a display of twinkling lights
20:04and colorful decorations.
