00:00The Russian submarine that passed through the West Philippine Sea was discovered by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, or AFP.

00:07This is what the Philippine Navy reported.

00:10Here is Patrick Dejesus' report.

00:14Aside from the attack of the Russian submarine,

00:16the Philippine Navy confirmed that it also spotted a rescue tanker and another support vessel.

00:23According to the Navy,

00:24These were 8 to 10 nautical miles away from the submarine

00:29that was first detected 80 nautical miles from Cape Calavite in Occidental, Mindoro on November 28.

00:36The support vessels also responded to radio communication.

00:39There are various reasons why the Navy is considering diving into the water of the Russian submarine

00:45when it passed through the West Philippine Sea.

00:47The context of the situation is most likely they were there to receive fuel,

00:53to charge their batteries in as much as a kilo-plus is a diesel-electric submarine,

00:59or probably to do some minor repairs for whatever derangement they incurred.

01:03On December 1, Sunday, the Russian submarine left the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines

01:09that was guarded by the BRPO Serizal and Navy aircraft.

01:12Based on the coordination, the submarine returned to Vladivostok in Russia

01:17that came from Malaysia after training with the Royal Malaysian Navy.

01:22The Philippine Navy admitted that they were surprised when the submarine passed

01:28which was the first time in our EEZ.

01:30They denied that the submarine was detected

01:33due to the capability of our armed forces,

01:37according to an expert.

01:39Yes, it is the first time.

01:41Hence our surprise, our alarm, why there was a submarine in our EEZ.

01:47Previously, we have had submarines conduct port calls,

01:51but these had all the diplomatic clearances and arrangements prior to their arrival.

01:56For this time, I would like to highlight, it was the first time we spotted one

02:00and we were able to respond using our own capabilities.

02:11Because all the BRPO units were able to pass through that area.

02:16The Philippine Navy continued to strengthen its capabilities

02:19where the target of additional use is to improve their underwater monitoring

02:25and anti-submarine warfare.

02:27The submarine program did not die, it's now at the Department of National Defense level.

02:32We have submitted proposals for two more corvettes, I believe, or two more frigates.

02:37These are modern warfare ships that could conduct the four domains of warfare.
