00:00On this day, we will be joined by a well-known fashion designer from Dubai

00:06who continues to excel in her unique style and designs in the international scene.

00:12And to share her inspiring journey, we will be talking to a Dubai-based fashion designer,

00:17Crystal Clasicas.

00:19Good morning and welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines.

00:21This is Dayanan Meiji.

00:25Good morning to all of you.

00:27I'm Crystal Clasicas and I'm an emerging fashion designer based in Dubai.

00:32I've been blessed to have showcased my brand in New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week

00:38and I'm so excited to share my story with you all today.

00:41Yes, we're excited to hear too.

00:43So, Crystal, can you tell us how you started in the fashion industry

00:49and what really pushed you or motivated you to be a fashion designer?

00:59Ever since I could remember, I've been designing.

01:03Almost all of my Barbicos, I make them with my own clothes from my old socks.

01:10I would just cut up my socks and then make little dresses for my Barbicos.

01:17It was always just passion.

01:20I just wanted to follow what made me happy, which was why I pursued fashion.

01:26We heard that in 2019, you were chosen for a full scholarship to the College of Fashion and Design in Dubai.

01:33What did you feel then and can you tell us about it?

01:39So, in 2019, I was actually working in financial data.

01:44And during that time, it was completely different to what I'm doing now.

01:50I just heard an ad in a local radio station about designing a dress for a local DJ

01:57and the winner would win a scholarship to the fashion school here.

02:02I joined the competition without telling anyone and I managed to reach the finals.

02:08I beat four other aspiring designers during that time.

02:13And then, I ended up winning the scholarship.

02:16I can't really explain, but it was like a build-up of so many emotions because it was also a lot of hard work.

02:26Like, oh my God, this is it. My dreams are finally manifesting into reality.

02:32That's why I just cried during that time.

02:36Your story is very inspiring.

02:39And knowing that Dubai is really competitive, especially when it comes to the fashion industry.

02:44Of course, there's also Michael Cinco, who is also very talented, right?

02:49So, there are a lot of differences.

02:50But can you also tell us, do you remember the very first design that you made?

02:58And who were the first people who supported you?

03:02My very first design was for my grandmother.

03:08It was for my uncle's wedding.

03:11She was the mother of the groom.

03:13That's why she had to dress up, right?

03:15I was 14 or 15 years old during that time.

03:18And I was super excited about it because it was the first time that one of my drawings was really coming to life.

03:25My grandmother, my uncle, and my siblings were the first people who supported me during my journey.

03:32And then, my friends and my family from all around the world supported me.

03:40Without everyone's support, I really would not have been the designer I am today.

03:47Alright. Kristen, if I got it correctly, when you were there in Dubai, when you were just starting out,

03:52were you in the finance industry?

03:55So, you weren't really in the fashion industry?

03:57Yes.

03:58Ah, okay.

03:59So now, with all these opportunities that you have in Dubai, what is your plan now?

04:05Will you really pursue fashion?

04:07Or are you doing both at the same time?

04:09What do you want to do in Dubai?

04:14So, I no longer work in finance.

04:17I stopped when I decided to pursue fashion full-time in 2021.

04:23And now, I just do fashion full-time.

04:25Oh, wow!

04:26That's amazing, right?

04:27Her leap from one industry to another industry.

04:30And also, the courage to follow your passion.

04:35The courage to follow your passion.

04:36That you're already very stable, that your industry is also very good in finance.

04:39And then, you're gonna follow your dreams and passion.

04:44And in connection with that,

04:46for aspiring designers who want to start in this fashion industry,

04:52what are the tips you can share for them?

04:57My biggest advice would be never stop learning.

05:05Whether it be sewing, or draping, drawing, or reading books and articles about fashion.

05:14Also, learn to network and build relationships with people.

05:20You never know who you'll work with or who will help you in the industry.

05:25If you really want to do anything, it's not just be a designer.

05:30But any dream or any job,

05:34just remember that it's a continuous journey.

05:38And never give up on your passions.

05:41If you really want something, you have to work on it.

05:45That would be my biggest advice.

05:48I'm also curious,

05:50did you also enroll in a formal fashion designing school in Dubai?

05:56Or did you just do your research?

06:01How was it?

06:04Before winning the scholarship in fashion and design,

06:08I was a business management graduate.

06:11So, everything that I learned was just through YouTube.

06:16Before my scholarship, it was just through YouTube.

06:20And then, through fashion articles, and then magazines, and then reading websites.

06:27You know, God has a reason.

06:29I believe that you will make it big in Dubai.

06:35And all the best and good luck for your future as a fashion designer.
