00:00Hello everybody, I'm Scott Shuey and this is the Gulf News Update on the U.S. midterm
00:07elections.
00:08All right, in about a half hour we're going to see the first polls close in Kentucky and
00:12Indiana.
00:13And we have seen some of the early exit poll information come out.
00:16Ed, what are we seeing?
00:17So from the earliest exit polls conducted by CNN, there's some really interesting information
00:23that we can glean from that.
00:25Two-thirds of voters say that their vote in today's congressional elections was inspired
00:30by Donald Trump.
00:32We know that a sizable one in six voters say that this election is the first time they're
00:36casting a ballot in a midterm contest.
00:40And Trump has proved very divisive again.
00:43Actually a majority of voters see him in a negative light, 55% of them say that they're
00:49not pleased with him, whereas 45% say they are.
00:52So his approval rating is net negative among the nation's voters at this point.
00:57All right, we may have a bellwether of how the elections are going to go when Kentucky's
01:01polls close.
01:02In the sixth district there, we're looking at a U.S. Marine combat pilot who is actually
01:08challenging a Republican incumbent.
01:11If she wins that election, that could sign bad things for the Republicans for the rest
01:15of the evening.
01:16It may indicate an ongoing trend among the populace in these votes.
01:19So we'll have to wait and see how that comes out.
01:21All right, so keep checking back at gulfnews.com and we'll update you throughout the evening.
01:25Thanks for watching.
