00:00We are still in the middle of the eruption of the volcano Canlaon. We will be talking to DSWD spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao. Good evening, Asick Dumlao. This is Joshua Garcia of Balitang Pambansa.
00:13Hi, good evening. Good evening to everyone who is watching your program.
00:19Yes, Asick. We would like to ask for an update. Based on the information you shared, how many people are currently in the evacuation center?
00:30Well, based on the 6 p.m. andromedic report of our agency, there are more than 3,500 families or 12,010 individuals currently living in the evacuation centers in Region 6 and Region 7.
00:52Actually, there are 24 open evacuation centers based on our latest monitoring.
00:57Also, there are 44 families or 162 individuals currently living in the homes of either their relatives or family members.
01:12Based on the ground reports that you received, Asick Dumlao, please clarify, how did it not become a disaster? And based on this, what do the evacuees need the most?
01:24Well, based on the agency's monitoring, especially when it came to Negros Island, our Secretary-General Rex Gatchalian and our Undersecretary and Regional Directors of Field Office 6 and 7
01:43were able to assist local officials in moving around the evacuation centers.
01:49Of course, the primary need is food because many of them were evacuated from their homes,
02:03especially around Mt. Kadloon and those residing within the Permanent Danger Zone.
02:14Because they were evacuated, they need food and non-food items.
02:21And this is what the GSWD assured that we are ready to provide additional food packs and non-food items as part of our augmentation support to the local government units.
02:33Aside from this, of course, the need for drinking water.
02:38But we understand that potable drinking water is ensured because there are water filtration systems already operational in the evacuation centers.
02:50Aside from food and non-food items, how about the elderly and children with low health? Do we have additional assistance that we can provide to them?
03:02Yes. The GSWD, as Vice Chair of the Response Cluster under the NDRC, is also coordinating with other government agencies, which are also member agencies of the Response Cluster.
03:14So based on the information that we have gathered, because our agencies are aware that we have disaggregated data of internally displaced populations,
03:26we are able to determine the appropriate interventions for them.
03:38So if there are needs for medicines and other requirements, we are communicating this to other government agencies that have a mandate to provide other services.
03:52So that is the coordination that we do at the Response Cluster of the NDRC.
03:58All right. Thank you very much for the update and for your time.
04:02DSWD Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao.
