00:18For starters, when it comes to buying trees, you want to eye them for freshness.

00:22Test the needles to make sure they're still flexible and not brittle.

00:26And once you get your tree home...

00:28...cut off about a half inch on the bottom of the stem of the tree and immediately put it in a basin of cool water.

00:34You'll also want to make sure your tree stand can hold the proper amount of water.

00:38A seven foot tree might consume a half gallon of water a day for the first week.

00:43Ensuring your tree isn't near heat sources like radiators, fireplaces or wood stoves is also critical.

00:50And a cool room tends to be better to keep the tree fresher longer.

00:54Just like Christmas trees, where you position your poinsettias can also matter.

00:59You're going to want to find a bright location. Not direct full sunlight but a nice bright window.

01:10These are tropical plants that will drop their leaves when they get exposed to the cold weather.

01:15The ideal temperature is 65 to 70 degrees, so around room temperature.
