Transcript
00:00I'm Mrs Lowe and I'm the headteacher at Springdale Primary. I am very fortunate to be the headteacher, it's a wonderful school.
00:07I've been here since September 23. We're a two-form entry school on the outskirts of Penn.
00:14We're a very inclusive school and we celebrate our inclusive approach to education for all children to be the best they can be.
00:22We have a resource base that's for children with speech-language communication needs and they're set up in three separate bases.
00:29We work on a stage, not age, curriculum for those children and it's highly successful.
00:35We're really proud of our sporting achievements recently, we're really promoting ourselves in the community and beyond.
00:41So we want our children to excel across the curriculum, not just in reading and maths which are super important.
00:48It's those things that children above and beyond the curriculum that they need to take part in competitions, out of school events, so beyond the curriculum.
00:59We've invested heavily in the building, so we've created a wonderful environment for children to learn in.
01:05We know how important an environment is to a child's learning, so the whole school has been refurbished to create a lovely, bright, stimulating environment for them.
01:14It's warm and friendly, we have an amazing team of staff as well. I am so proud of the teachers and the TAs who make this a wonderful place to be for our children.
01:25We've invested heavily in resources as well, so our reading, we've worked with local counsellors who've worked with us as well.
01:32They've helped to support develop the library, to give us some resources to support.
01:37We've purchased over £4,000 worth of books recently because we want our children to have that going into a bookstore feel.
01:45So they've got a range of new titles, things that will inspire them, motivate them and appeal to lots of children's individual needs as well.
01:54What do they want to read? Who are they interested in?
01:57We are also building really strong links with our community as well.
02:01We've opened the school up to lots of community events and particularly events for parents where they're for our community of children, our families.
02:10So we've held our first summer fair that we'd had for a long time recently in the summer.
02:15Our PTA have recently re-established themselves and they've been doing lots for school.
02:21Again, very blessed to have such a fantastic PTA as well.
02:25They recently organised a school bonfire, which was brilliant, so that was a lovely event, well attended.
02:32We've got a Christmas fair coming soon, I'm really excited that they've organised real reindeers to come and be at the Christmas fair.
02:39So for some of those children who wouldn't normally have those experiences, they get to take part in it.
02:46We've had a pop-up pool on site, so all of our children from year one to year six have been swimming.
02:52Our children in the resource base, who would really struggle to go to a local swimming pool because of their sensory needs, have had the opportunities for one-to-one swimming as well.
03:02So lots of lovely experiences, we are a truly inclusive school and that really matters to us.
03:09We live our school values of shine today for a brighter tomorrow, and that's safe, happy, included, nurtured and enthusiastic.
03:18And those values are celebrated every week in our assemblies where parents come and join us for our successes.
03:25Our vision for the future is to be a truly great school, doing the right thing at the right time for the children.
03:32Not for anybody else, for any other bodies, it's for children. That's why we exist, and it's a wonderful place to be.
