00:13Scotland's Public Health Minister has insisted improvements are being put in place after whistleblowing concerns
00:19over the safety of mothers and babies at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary's Maternity Unit.
00:24Jenny Minto was speaking after BBC.
00:27Scotland reported 17 concerns about safety had been upheld or partially upheld
00:32following an investigation into the obstetrics triage and assessment unit at the hospital.
00:37The broadcaster said it had spoken to staff at the unit following the death of a mother in September
00:42after an investigation by the health board had been completed.
00:46Ms Minto expressed her sincere condolences to the family involved in this tragic case
00:52and said NHS Lothian has told the Scottish Government a detailed review into the death has been initiated
00:57to give them much needed answers and establish what happened.
01:00The Minister pledged the family will be fully informed as the review is carried out.

01:10Police in Edinburgh have thanked the public for supporting its criminal investigation into Bonfire Night Disorder

01:30Following police inquiries, 32 people have been arrested in Edinburgh

01:36for incidents that occurred in the city including the Gracemount, Moradun, Nidri and Calder Road areas.

01:48Health Secretary Neil Gray is being urged to spell out a timetable for the construction of Edinburgh's new eye hospital.
01:54The replacement for the current Princess Alexandra, Eye Pavilion, declared unfit for purpose in 2014
02:01was given the go-ahead in the Scottish Budget last week
02:04but Lothian Labour MSP Sarah Boyack has now written to Mr Gray
02:09asking how soon building work will get underway and when the hospital will open.
02:13She also asked him to meet campaigners, stakeholders and Lothian MSPs to brief them on the situation.
02:19The project was originally approved in 2018
02:22but cancelled in 2020, reinstated in 2021 and then put on hold in 2023.
02:28Ms Boyack said
02:34However, we have seen multiple U-turns in the past on the eye hospital.
02:38We need urgent clarity on the next steps.
