00:00The AFP was assured by various government agencies that they can handle their modernization program despite the budget cut.

00:08President Bongbong Marcos also promised to make the armed forces world-class.

00:14Chino Gaston was able to make it.

00:23In the midst of threats to the territory and security of the country,

00:27along with various calamities,

00:31the President made a promise in front of more than 600 graduates of the Officer Candidate School of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

00:57For an armed force that is strong and world-class,

01:00it is not only the military equipment that will be given priority but also the proper training on how to use it.

01:27The arrival of military equipment under the AFP Modernization Program continues.

01:35This year, the BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missiles of the Philippine Marines from India arrived.

01:40And this Sunday,

01:57the Philippine Navy wants to buy two more warships and six offshore patrol vessels

02:02to strengthen the defense of the country's Exclusive Economic Zone.

02:06We have the Rio Horizon 3, almost 35 billion dollars.

02:11This is not a one-shot deal.

02:13This is a continuing effort.

02:15We have midway checks to see where we are.

02:18And if we need to improve this, more will be added.

02:22And I would say that we are on track to hit our target.

02:25But will the government's tightness of the belt affect the purchase of military equipment for the defense of the country?

02:32Under the 2025 budget of the Department of National Defense,

02:36Php15 billion was reduced to Php50 billion for the AFP Modernization Program.

02:42We were assured by the other government agencies that we can pursue with the modernization program.

02:53It's a matter of project management.

02:55It's execution and then funding will flow.

03:03But we have assurance from Congress that we will continue to support the modernization program.

03:08The purchase of 40 multirole fighter jets worth Php400 billion approved by the President last August is now under bidding.

03:18The AFP also has a wish list of additional mid-range missiles like the U.S. MRC missiles deployed in Northern Luzon.
