00:00Roger Moore was a divisive Bond actor, but his wit and charm sit him at the top of many
00:06lists as the best.
00:08His memoir, My World Is My Bond, lets fans look behind the curtain.
00:12It tells about his friends and most prized memories.
00:16It also reveals how he was always blunt enough to ask the questions and use the words most
00:20wouldn't.
00:21It also tells how his candid nature sometimes earned him enemies.
00:25Keep watching to learn how Roger Moore revealed the co-stars he hated most.
00:33His Friends and Memories Roger was as quick-tongued and charismatic
00:37as the characters he played.
00:39It earned him a few enemies and plenty of lovers, but also friends.
00:42Those included Peter Sellers, Frank Sinatra, and Lana Turner.
00:49Peter Sellers Roger called Peter a solitary character who
00:53was always behind a mask.
00:55He was also a man who thought his audience watching him on screen was one of the dullest
00:59experiences you could ever wish for.
01:01That's why it was a bit surprising when he got involved in a crazy drug bust.
01:06In 1970, Peter and his third wife, Miranda, were on their honeymoon on the Cap Ferrat
01:11in the south of France.
01:13Roger just happened to be in the same hotel filming The Persuaders.
01:16His friend, Leslie Bricusse, brought Johnny Gold, founder of London's Tramp nightclub,
01:22around the Cap of the Bay.
01:24They spoke with the customs patrol boat and told them to pull Leslie's boat over, claiming
01:28it was going too fast.
01:30They all laughed at Leslie's embarrassment.
01:32The officials gave him cigarettes and a bottle of scotch.
01:36Johnny said that he was there to see Peter and waved a white envelope addressed to him.
01:40Johnny gave Peter the envelope, and it was filled with white powder.
01:43It also contained a note saying that it was a gift for the honeymoon.
01:47Peter asked them to come to his room that night and was clearly high.
01:50He said that his bed was a flying carpet and asked if they'd like to fly around the
01:54room with them.
01:59Frank Sinatra Roger admits that Frank Sinatra never did
02:02anything to dispel any rumors that he was connected to the mafia.
02:06His first memory of him was of a fight that he had with John Wayne at an event at the
02:11Moulin Rouge in Hollywood.
02:13Jack Warner was the head of Warner Brothers at the time.
02:16He bid $1,000 to have Gordon McRae sing, and John bid $2,000 for him not to sing.
02:22Unfortunately for John, Gordon was a personal friend of Frank's.
02:26He felt insulted and decided to make it known.
02:29Roger didn't see Frank again until 10 years later at a restaurant in London.
02:33He asked him about his connections to the mob, and Old Blue Eyes didn't deny it.
02:38He said that most of the venues he played were controlled by the underworld.
02:44Lana Turner Roger also claims that Lana Turner taught
02:47him how to kiss on the set of the film Diane.
02:51She had a technique known as passion without pressure.
02:54He didn't think that he needed it at first because he'd been married several times with
02:57no complaints, but it improved the film.
03:01He also says that he'll always remember her for the day that she swore at producer Edward
03:05Knopf and stormed off stage after a small difference of opinion.
03:09Roger asked about it later, and she said that she was just getting Hollywood back for all
03:13they'd done to her.
03:18Feuds He Remembers Betty Davis and Joan Crawford were one of
03:22the most famous feuds in all of Hollywood.
03:25Roger got a taste of it in the 1960s.
03:27He says that Betty came up to his table one day and introduced herself, even though she
03:31needed no introduction.
03:33She went on about how much she and her daughter loved his television show The Saint.
03:38That sparked a friendship.
03:39He invited her to the dog races one day.
03:42They were having fun, but he also began to see the diva that lived within her.
03:47He learned the reason behind the feud.
03:49Joan's second husband, French O'Tone, was Betty's one true love.
03:53She was even resentful of her nursing him when he was dying of cancer, and the feud
03:58lasted beyond death.
04:00Roger also got to know Rex Harrison, a man who had a reputation for being temperamental
04:04and cruel.
04:05Roger says that the one very decent thing that he did was care for Kay Kendall, his
04:10third wife and a close friend of the actor.
04:12Rex even had trouble getting along with America's sweetheart, Julie Andrews.
04:17Roger says that he allegedly had to sit on the side of the stage when singing their love
04:21song I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face.
04:24The only way that he could do it was if he imagined that he was singing it to Kay.
04:28Rex also didn't get along with Audrey Hepburn, who played Eliza Doolittle in the 1964 film
04:33version.
04:34Despite the struggles, he dedicated the Oscar it earned him to both Julie and Audrey.
04:42Grace Jones Grace Jones was the villain's henchwoman
04:45in A View to Kill.
04:47She had a habit of playing music from her trailer that was so loud that it made the
04:51wall shake.
04:52He asked her to turn it down multiple times, but she refused.
04:56Roger was already stressed during filming, and not being able to get his beauty rest
05:00was eventually too much for him to take.
05:03He marched into her room, yanked the plug out, and threw a chair.
05:07He claims that the dent is still there.
05:09They were set to film a love scene soon after.
05:12She surprised him by bringing in a large black sex toy.
05:15That was enough to dissolve the tension and get them laughing hard enough to make up.
05:22Herve Villachez Herve Villachez was one of his most hated co-stars.
05:25Roger's sharp tongue was on full display when he appeared at London's Southbank Centre
05:30months before his death.
05:32The star had plenty to say about another Bond film, 1974's The Man with the Golden Gun.
05:38His comments focused primarily on Herve Villachez, who played Nick-Nack.
05:43He told the public all about the 3-foot-11-inch man's alleged sexual escapades.
05:48In fact, he called him a sex maniac.
05:50He said that Herve used to touch him inappropriately despite being told to stop.
05:54He also claimed that he would go to Hong-Gold and go to clubs looking for girls with a flashlight.
05:59Roger also remembers a sexual conversation that they'd had.
06:02He asked Herve how many women he'd slept with during filming, and he said that it was
06:0635.
06:08Roger claimed that they quote, didn't count if he paid for them, but Herve said, sometimes
06:12when I pay, they refuse.
06:14These claims about his sex life may or may not have been true, but they didn't help
06:17his career.
06:18He played Tattoo in Fantasy Island, starting in 1978, but was fired in 1984.
06:25Gay disputes were a part of it, but so were claims of sexual advances from female cast
06:29members and crew.
06:30Villachez died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on September 4, 1993.
06:36He left a suicide note that said, no one is to blame for this.
06:43Being James Bond
06:44James Bond was the role that made Roger more famous.
06:48The first time that he took it on was in the 1973 film Live and Let Die.
06:52Throughout his run, he starred in seven films and played the character for 12 years.
06:57He gave it a debonair flair and a sharp wit that audiences loved.
07:01He exuded confidence, but even audiences noted a few moments where he was clearly uncomfortable.
07:09Hating Guns
07:10Roger told of an early experience with guns in his memoir.
07:14He was shot with a BB gun in the leg as a teen.
07:16He wasn't hurt but had a lifetime disdain for firearms.
07:20He hated what guns represented, but 007 has had at least one since the first film, Dr.
07:25No, in 1962.
07:27While Roger took on the role, his character favored a Walter PPK but also used a .44 Magnum
07:33and a variety of assault rifles.
07:35He was so uncomfortable that he tended to blink while shooting.
07:38He revealed in the commentary track of 1985's A View to Kill that a traumatizing event made
07:44it even worse.
07:45He put his feelings aside and volunteered for a refresher course in the Army.
07:49Neither Roger nor the staff knew that he was handed a gun with a blocked mechanism.
07:54When he pulled the trigger, it exploded in his hand.
07:57He wasn't injured, but it did have a major mental effect on him.
08:00He went deaf for a few days, and the crew had to delay filming until his hearing returned.
08:06Roger admitted to more than a fear of firearms in the commentary for A View to Kill.
08:11He also expressed that it was his least favorite film in the franchise.
08:15He disliked the violence in it.
08:16His least favorite moment was the scene involving the villain, Max Zorin, played by Christopher
08:21Walken.
08:22He fires an Uzi submachine gun haphazardly into a large group of people as if he doesn't
08:27care who he hits.
08:28He admitted to feeling disappointed in A View to Kill because it depicted more brutality
08:33and bloodshed than in previous films.
08:35The spy who loved me was his favorite and the one he enjoyed doing the most.
08:39Fans and critics also preferred it.
08:41Now it's time to hear from you.
