Transcript
00:00:00I got a five-year-old, so I wanted to make sure that he could run around and have a good time.
00:00:04It just felt like it was a good place for me to call home for a little bit.
00:00:08Get ready for a tour of the most incredible homes you've ever seen.
00:00:12And guess what? They're all for sale, but there are no takers.
00:00:15Why? That's the big question.
00:00:18Today, we're exploring the fanciest homes of the stars
00:00:21that are surprisingly still waiting for buyers.
00:00:24From massive mansions to plush penthouses,
00:00:27we're uncovering the secrets of why.
00:00:30Number 8. Liza Minnelli.
00:00:33Liza Minnelli inherited more than fame from her parents.
00:00:36Among these was a Beverly Hills estate, steeped in her family's history.
00:00:41This house, once a symbol of Hollywood luxury,
00:00:44was heavily influenced by her father, Vincent Minnelli,
00:00:47a famous movie director known for his grand style.
00:00:51The estate was a sight to behold.
00:00:54Vincent's touch was everywhere,
00:00:56from the luxurious furniture to the grand chandeliers.
00:01:00It was more than a house.
00:01:02It was a piece of Hollywood history,
00:01:04a reminder of the Minnelli family's place in the world of glamour and fame.
00:01:09After Vincent passed away, the mansion became a source of family drama.
00:01:14His will said his fourth wife, Lee, could live there as long as she wanted.
00:01:18This caused trouble when Liza wanted to sell it.
00:01:21What followed was a tangle of legal fights and family arguments,
00:01:25turning the once-proud mansion into a battleground.
00:01:29Now, the mansion sits empty, a shadow of its former glory.
00:01:33The laughter and music of the past are gone, replaced by silence.
00:01:38Number 7. Courtney Love.
00:01:41Courtney Love, the renowned singer and widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain,
00:01:46stepped into a different world with her purchase of a country retreat in Olympia, Washington State.
00:01:51This property, acquired in 1995 about a year after Cobain's passing,
00:01:56represented a contrast to the life she led in the public eye.
00:02:00Set on a sprawling seven acres, the retreat was envisioned as a peaceful haven,
00:02:05a place for love to find peace away from the spotlight.
00:02:08The property, however, told a story of gradual decline.
00:02:12Initially, it held the rustic charm typical of a country home,
00:02:16with three bedrooms and two bathrooms nestled in nature.
00:02:19But as years passed, the retreat, which Love never actually lived in, began to show signs of neglect.
00:02:25The once-inviting space was overtaken by the relentless march of nature,
00:02:29with overgrown greenery and a structure slowly yielding to time.
00:02:33Selling this retreat proved to be a challenge.
00:02:35In 2011, Love attempted to sell the property but couldn't find a buyer.
00:02:40By 2018, when she put it on the market again for $320,000,
00:02:45the house was described as a significant renovation project.
00:02:48It required extensive work to restore it to a habitable state,
00:02:52a far cry from the idyllic retreat it once was.
00:02:55Eventually, a buyer was found, and the property was sold.
00:02:59The new owners faced the task of reviving the estate,
00:03:02transforming it from a symbol of past sorrows to a rejuvenated home, ready to start a new chapter.
00:03:096. Muhammad Hadid
00:03:11Muhammad Hadid made headlines with his ambitious project in Bel-Air.
00:03:16Known for his lavish developments,
00:03:18Hadid started building a mansion that was meant to be the height of luxury.
00:03:22However, the journey of this Bel-Air mansion was anything but smooth.
00:03:27Hadid initially planned for a 14,000-square-foot property.
00:03:30But as construction progressed, the mansion expanded significantly,
00:03:35eventually covering a staggering 30,000 square feet.
00:03:38This expansion wasn't just grand, it was controversial.
00:03:42It led to a series of legal battles as Hadid pushed the limits of what was permissible,
00:03:46adding floors and features without the necessary permits.
00:03:50The local community was up in arms.
00:03:52The mansion, dubbed the Starship Enterprise by neighbors,
00:03:56became a symbol of excessive ambition and disregard for regulations.
00:04:01The legal issues culminated in a ruling that declared the property a danger to the community,
00:04:06leading to a decision that no developer wanted to hear.
00:04:09The mansion had to be demolished.
00:04:125. Nelly
00:04:14Nelly, the rapper who skyrocketed to fame with hits like Hot in Hair,
00:04:18made a splash in the real estate world with the purchase of a grand Tuscan-style mansion.
00:04:23Located in the St. Louis suburb of Wildwood, Missouri,
00:04:26this mansion was a symbol of Nelly's success.
00:04:29Bought at the peak of his career in 2002 for nearly $2 million.
00:04:34The property, sprawling over a 12-acre lot, boasted panoramic views.
00:04:39But the mansion remained unsold for almost two decades.
00:04:44The 10,800-square-foot property,
00:04:46complete with castle-like turrets and a white stucco finish,
00:04:50was an extravagant display of wealth.
00:04:52However, reports suggested that Nelly never intended to live there.
00:04:56His plan was to flip the property,
00:04:59but for reasons unknown, this plan never materialized.
00:05:03In a surprising turn of events,
00:05:04the property was sold in 2021 for less than a million dollars to the Kingdom of God Global Church.
00:05:10This sale sparked local rumors and speculation.
00:05:13Some neighbors even suggested that the church might be a cult,
00:05:17adding a layer of mystery to the mansion's story.
00:05:204. Tommy Lee
00:05:22Tommy Lee, the famous drummer from Muttley Crew,
00:05:25bought a fancy mansion in Calabasas, California.
00:05:28The mansion, sprawling over 10,000 square feet,
00:05:32was a marvel of modern architecture.
00:05:34It had six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and an array of features that could dazzle anyone.
00:05:39Among its most distinctive elements were an atrium with indoor waterfalls,
00:05:43a retractable glass roof, and a pool shaped like a grand piano.
00:05:48The property also included a KOE pond, a stone saltwater spa,
00:05:52and a variety of luxurious amenities that made it stand out in the affluent Calabasas neighborhood.
00:05:58However, selling this unique property proved challenging.
00:06:02Initially listed close to the price Lee paid for it, the mansion struggled to find a buyer.
00:06:07The market for such a personalized and extravagant property was limited.
00:06:11As a result, Lee had to reduce the price significantly.
00:06:15After years on the market, the property eventually sold for $3.6 million,
00:06:20a steep drop from his asking price.
00:06:23Adding to the mansion's selling woes were rumors that it was haunted.
00:06:27Lee's wife, Brittany Furlan, shared stories of strange occurrences in the house,
00:06:31which may have deterred potential buyers.
00:06:34The mansion's sale marked the end of an era for Lee,
00:06:36a chapter filled with as much drama and intrigue as his life in the spotlight.
00:06:413. Michael Jordan
00:06:43Michael Jordan, a name that resonates with basketball greatness,
00:06:47made an equally impressive mark in the world of luxury real estate with his extravagant Chicago mansion.
00:06:52Located in Highland Park, this mansion is a marvel of luxury and style.
00:06:57Covering over 56,000 square feet, it boasts nine bedrooms, 15 bathrooms,
00:07:03and a host of amenities that befit a sports superstar.
00:07:06The property features a full-size basketball court, fitting for the NBA legend,
00:07:10a massive home gym, a cigar room reflective of Jordan's known tastes, and a luxurious pool area.
00:07:17The mansion's gate, famously adorned with the number 23 Arser, Jordan's jersey number, adds to its unique charm.
00:07:25However, selling this magnificent property proved to be a challenge.
00:07:28Despite its luxurious amenities and the prestige of being owned by Jordan, the mansion has lingered on the market.
00:07:34Originally listed at $29 million, the price has seen significant adjustments over the years.
00:07:39As of now, the mansion remains unsold,
00:07:42a surprising fact given Jordan's continued fame and the property's opulent features.
00:07:47It stands as a symbol of Jordan's legacy, yet to find a buyer who matches its grandeur and history.
00:07:532. Donald Trump
00:07:55Donald Trump, known for real estate and politics, bought a big fancy mansion that matched his bold personality.
00:08:02Before his foray into the political arena, Trump was known for his high-profile business ventures,
00:08:07particularly in real estate, and this mansion was a testament to his taste for luxury.
00:08:13This particular mansion, a symbol of Trump's wealth and status, was designed to impress.
00:08:19It boasted all the trappings of luxury one would expect from a property associated with Trump.
00:08:24The mansion's grandeur was evident in its expansive rooms, high-end finishes, and extravagant decor.
00:08:29However, the journey of this mansion in the real estate market was not without its challenges.
00:08:34The property struggled to find a buyer.
00:08:36Trump's shift from business to politics brought a new level of scrutiny and controversy,
00:08:41impacting the sales prospects of his real estate holdings.
00:08:45As of now, the mansion standing in the market remains a topic of interest.
00:08:49Its fate is tied not just to its luxurious features,
00:08:53but also to the ever-changing public perception of its high-profile owner.
00:08:58The property, much like Trump himself, continues to be a subject of public fascination and debate.
00:09:041. Whitney Houston
00:09:07Whitney Houston, a name that echoes through the halls of music history,
00:09:11had an equally notable presence in the world of real estate with her New Jersey estate.
00:09:16Located in Mendham Township, the estate was a sprawling 12,500 square feet of elegance and comfort.
00:09:22It featured five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a tennis court, and an indoor pool.
00:09:28Perhaps its most significant feature was the recording studio,
00:09:31where some of Houston's most iconic hits were produced.
00:09:35This estate was a creative haven for Houston.
00:09:38However, following Houston's tragic passing, the estate's story took a turn.
00:09:43Selling the property became a challenge.
00:09:46The estate, tied so closely to Houston's legacy,
00:09:49struggled to find a buyer who could look beyond its celebrity connection.
00:09:52That's a wrap on our tour of some amazing mansions with surprising stories.
00:09:57It's clear that even the fanciest homes can have their ups and downs in finding new owners.
00:10:03These places show us that there's often more than meets the eye in the world of big houses and famous owners.
00:10:10Recently, a viral video came to light,
00:10:13claiming to show footage of an abandoned property formerly occupied by Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone.
00:10:20The video came as a result of the urban explorer craze.
00:10:23Urban explorers are people who explore abandoned properties,
00:10:27typically for the purposes of filming the escapades and uploading them on the internet.
00:10:31Most of the time, the videos uploaded are only of interest to other urban explorers.
00:10:36But the video that claimed to show footage of Sylvester Stallone's property appealed to another demographic.
00:10:42That demographic is fans of the revered Rocky and Rambo actor.
00:10:46The video showed an abandoned brick house with a yard that had long since become overgrown.
00:10:52The house appeared as if whoever had previously occupied it had left in the spur of the moment,
00:10:57as there was food rotting in the refrigerator.
00:11:00There were also a plethora of luxury cars that had seemingly been abandoned on the property.
00:11:05Fans of Stallone know that the actor is a fan of luxury cars.
00:11:09But the simple fact of there being luxury cars wasn't the only thing that caused them to theorize that it belonged to Sylvester.
00:11:16The biggest clue was vanity license plates featured on the vehicles.
00:11:20There were numerous license plates featuring Sylvester's nickname, Sly,
00:11:23including plates that said Sly, Sly 2, and Sly 3.
00:11:27Even more suspicious, one of the license plates was featured on a Clanais luxury car.
00:11:32These cars are especially rare, and Sylvester is known to own one.
00:11:39Fact checkers have been keeping busy.
00:11:41The video was apparently of a property found in Maryland,
00:11:44with the license plates being registered either in Maryland or Washington, D.C.
00:11:49After the video went viral, Stallone fans got a hold of Maryland authorities
00:11:54and were able to determine that the cars with Maryland license plates were registered to someone other than Sly Stallone.
00:12:00But this information has yet to be gathered for the Washington, D.C. plates.
00:12:04The fact that the Maryland cars aren't registered to Stallone may seem like proof that the star is not the owner.
00:12:10However, it's possible that the actor had the cars registered under a different name or to someone else.
00:12:16Another piece of evidence is the fact that the actor grew up in Maryland,
00:12:20and he grew up in a brick house.
00:12:22Because of this, many have speculated that the property is none other than the childhood home of the actor.
00:12:28Fans believe he may have purchased his childhood home for nostalgic purposes,
00:12:32only to abandon it due to financial difficulties.
00:12:35There is certainly a lot of evidence suggesting that the video was, in fact, a document of Sylvester Stallone's decaying wealth.
00:12:42However, there seems to be more evidence suggesting that the property belonged to someone else entirely.
00:12:47Besides the Maryland cars being registered to someone else,
00:12:50there's also the fact of the matter that the star's childhood home has been put on the market several times in the past few years,
00:12:57and that it doesn't match up with the layout of the property featured in the video.
00:13:01The property has a giant yard, whereas Sly's childhood home doesn't.
00:13:08Did the property belong to a Frenchman?
00:13:10Scrolling through the responses on the viral Urban Explorer's video,
00:13:14many people have suggested that it belonged to a wealthy Frenchman who passed away a few years ago.
00:13:19This man was known to have purchased cars that formerly belonged to Sylvester Stallone,
00:13:24which could explain the vanity license plates.
00:13:27As far as the presence of the rare Clunet, this also could be explained by the wealthy Frenchman theory.
00:13:33The Frenchman who was supposed to have owned the property was the brother of the Clunet creator.
00:13:38The wealthy Frenchman theory garnered a lot of traction after it was posted via YouTube comments,
00:13:43but it has since been largely debunked.
00:13:46It's certainly true that the brother of the Clunet creator passed away and left a lot of cars in property limbo.
00:13:52It's also true that these cars included a Clunet and some other vehicles that had been purchased from Stallone at some point.
00:13:59But the abandoned property of this late Frenchman has since been revealed in another Urban Explorer's video,
00:14:06and this made it all too clear that the Frenchman's abandoned cars are not the same as the ones found in Maryland.
00:14:12It's just a big coincidence.
00:14:14Stallone fans then became desperate for other theories to explain the viral video away.
00:14:19There's been one more theory that has managed to carry some weight.
00:14:23It suggests that the abandoned property featured in the video belongs to Sly Stone,
00:14:28the leader of the musical group Sly and the Family Stone.
00:14:31This would explain the vanity license plates.
00:14:34Sly Stone having abandoned the property would also make a lot more sense financially than Stallone having abandoned it.
00:14:40While Sylvester is estimated to be worth around $400 million, Sly Stone is verifiably homeless.
00:14:47Sylvester previously abandoned his Palm Springs mansion.
00:14:50Given the current facts, it seems more likely that the property belongs to Sly Stone.
00:14:55But muddying the waters of the story even more is the fact that there was a property that Sylvester certifiably did abandon in the 2010s.
00:15:04Prior to 2010, Sylvester lived in a Palm Springs mansion among some of the wealthiest citizens of California.
00:15:11Even though he's worth $400 million, he started to feel like the odd one out amongst these wealthy citizens
00:15:17and decided he wanted to find a home someplace else.
00:15:21He found a new place in Palm Beach, Florida and left his Palm Springs home abandoned.
00:15:26His mansion was abandoned for several years before it was recently sold to pop idol Adele for a staggering sum.
00:15:33During the time it was abandoned, there were many luxury cars sitting at it.
00:15:37It wasn't technically abandoned as it was on the market, but it was so expensive that it took many years to be sold.
00:15:42It sold for $58 million and Sylvester downsized to a home that only cost $35 million.
00:15:48Despite that downgrade, it seems Sylvester is far from being in dire financial straits.
00:15:53In the web of rumors that has come about as a result of the viral Urban Explorers video,
00:15:59the one certifiable truth would seem to be that Sylvester Stallone is a man who loves his luxury cars.
00:16:05Whether or not the luxury cars that were abandoned ever belonged to Sylvester is still open for debate,
00:16:11but he has plenty of them in his collection.
00:16:13Some of the most prized cars in his collection include his Bugatti Veyron, 1932 Highboy Hot Rod, and Rolls-Royce Phantom.
00:16:25Sylvester Stallone is still a high roller.
00:16:28Stallone's Bugatti Veyron seems to be his favorite car to drive around in.
00:16:32It cost a staggering $1.7 million and it's painted all black.
00:16:36It has 1,200 horsepower and is said to reach 60 miles an hour in just under three seconds.
00:16:42If Sylvester ever finds himself in a situation where he needs money fast,
00:16:46he could sell this car and live for a couple years just off of that.
00:16:50His 1932 Highboy Hot Rod gets out less, but it's just as impressive.
00:16:55In fact, this 330 horsepower beauty may be even more impressive than the competition on account of its classic status.
00:17:02Finally, the most luxurious car in Stallone's vast and impressive collection may very well be his Rolls-Royce Phantom.
00:17:10It's another vehicle he loves going out on the town in.
00:17:12It boasts 453 horsepower, more than enough for taking Sylvester to and from his fancy dinners.
00:17:19All things considered, it appears as if the iconic Rocky and Rambo star is pretty far from having to abandon his luxurious life.
00:17:28Goldie and Kurt's Malibu House
00:17:30Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, a renowned Hollywood power couple,
00:17:34made headlines in 2013 when they decided to part ways with their luxurious Malibu beach home.
00:17:40Nestled along the pristine coastline of one of California's most coveted beachfront locations,
00:17:46their property exuded elegance and charm, offering a retreat that epitomized coastal living.
00:17:52The Malibu beach home boasted breathtaking views of the Pacific,
00:17:55with its expansive windows inviting in the golden California sunlight and the soothing sound of waves crashing against the shore.
00:18:03Spread across a generous expanse of land, the property provided ample space for both relaxation and entertainment,
00:18:10making it a haven for anyone seeking a serene coastal lifestyle.
00:18:14The architecture was a seamless blend of contemporary design and beachside charm.
00:18:19The interior featured spacious living areas adorned with high-end finishes and tasteful decor.
00:18:24A gourmet kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances offered the perfect setting for culinary delights,
00:18:30while multiple bedrooms and bathrooms provided comfort and privacy for guests.
00:18:34Despite all this and its undeniable allure, the Malibu beach house lingered on the market for a while,
00:18:40its asking price reflecting the exclusivity of its location and the luxury it offered.
00:18:45Potential buyers no doubt recognized the appeal of owning a slice of paradise in one of SoCal's most desirable neighborhoods,
00:18:52but perhaps the timing or other factors didn't align.
00:18:56Nevertheless, the home's eventual sale marked the end of an era for Kurt and Goldie,
00:19:00who undoubtedly cherished countless memories created within its walls.
00:19:05Their L.A. Home
00:19:07In 2017, Goldie and Kurt bid farewell to another piece of their real estate portfolio,
00:19:13this time parting ways with their stunning Palisades Riviera Home.
00:19:17Situated in one of L.A.'s most prestigious neighborhoods,
00:19:21the property epitomized luxury living with its impeccable design, breathtaking views, and exclusive amenities.
00:19:27Perched atop a hillside, the Riviera Home commanded panoramic vistas of the city skyline and the Pacific,
00:19:34offering a rare combo of tranquility and urban sophistication.
00:19:38The exterior had warmth and opulence, with spacious living areas bathed in natural light.
00:19:43Vaulted ceilings adorned with intricate detailing added grandeur to the space.
00:19:48It had an array of amenities like a gourmet chef's kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances
00:19:53and a private screening room perfect for hosting movie nights.
00:19:56There were lush gardens, a sparkling pool, and inviting outdoor seating areas.
00:20:01But the Riviera Home faced a similar fate as its Malibu counterpart,
00:20:05lingering on the market for a while before finally finding its new owner.
00:20:10Justin Bieber's Beverly Hills Mansion
00:20:13Justin Bieber's mansion, nestled in the exclusive neighborhood of Beverly Hills,
00:20:18captivated onlookers with its grandeur and luxury.
00:20:21Boasting modern architecture and sprawling grounds,
00:20:24this palatial estate featured all the amenities fit for a pop sensation.
00:20:28With multiple bedrooms, state-of-the-art kitchen facilities, and entertainment areas,
00:20:33the mansion epitomized California living at its finest.
00:20:36Despite its undeniable appeal, the property faced challenges in finding a buyer,
00:20:41perhaps due to its hefty price tag or the discerning tastes of potential purchasers.
00:20:46Nevertheless, Bieber's former home stood as a testament to his success and status in the entertainment industry.
00:20:53Meg Ryan's Soho Loft
00:20:56Meg Ryan's stylish loft in New York City's vibrant Soho neighborhood

00:21:05With its chic design, exposed brick walls, and soaring ceilings,

00:21:12Featuring spacious living areas, designer finishes, and panoramic views of the city,
00:21:17it was a coveted retreat for anyone seeking the epitome of New York living.
00:21:21But despite the allure, Ryan's loft faced challenges finding a buyer,
00:21:25perhaps due to the competitive real estate market or the unique layout of the property.
00:21:30Nevertheless, it remained a coveted piece of celebrity real estate.
00:21:38Tommy Hilfiger's Penthouse in the iconic Plaza Hotel,
00:21:41situated in the heart of New York City, epitomized luxury living

00:22:05the penthouse was the epitome of Manhattan luxury.
00:22:08But his residents faced challenges in finding a buyer,

00:22:44offering a luxurious retreat in the midst of the bustling city.
00:22:47But Oprah's condo faced challenges in finding a buyer,
00:22:50perhaps because of the competitive nature of the Chicago real estate market.

00:23:49The property initially went on the market in 2012
00:23:52with an asking price of $29 million,

00:24:38Travolta put the estate on the market for sale.
00:24:40But despite occasional interest,
00:24:42the property failed to find a buyer
00:24:44and is currently back off the market.

00:25:21the mansion has been on the market for over 11 years,
00:25:24with its price plummeting from an initial $29 million to $14.9 million.
00:25:29The property's highly personalized nature,
00:25:32like the entrance gates adorned with Jordan's jersey number 23,
00:25:35might be deterring potential buyers who prefer a more neutral space.
00:25:4050 Cent's Connecticut Mansion
00:25:42The story of 50 Cent's Connecticut Mansion is a tale of extravagance
00:25:46and the challenges of finding a buyer for such a unique property.
00:25:50Originally listed for $18.5 million in 2015,
00:25:54this 50,000-square-foot mansion's price has been slashed to $5.995 million.
00:25:59The home is a testament to luxury,
00:26:01featuring 21 bedrooms, 25 bathrooms, an indoor pool and hot tub,
00:26:05a nightclub, an indoor court, multiple game rooms,
00:26:08a green screen room, and a recording studio.
00:26:11Despite these lavish amenities, the mansion's over-the-top nature
00:26:14and the niche appeal of its features have made it a difficult sell.
00:26:18Matt Lauer's Hamptons Estate
00:26:20Matt Lauer, a familiar face in American television,
00:26:23has encountered significant challenges selling his Hamptons estate.

00:26:32the price of this 8,000-square-foot home has been reduced to $14.9 million.
00:26:37Nestled on a 25-acre private lot, the property exudes traditional elegance

00:26:50John Travolta's Main Island Estate
00:26:52Travolta, a multi-talented actor and producer with a career spanning more than five decades,
00:26:58has faced difficulties selling his Main Island Estate.
00:27:01Purchased in 1991, this 11,000-square-foot property was built in 1903 and features 20 bedrooms.
00:27:08Despite its historical significance and Travolta's fame,
00:27:11the property has struggled to find a buyer since being listed in February 2021.
00:27:17The estate's maximalist country-style interior,
00:27:20adorned with a mix of colors, patterns, and ornate furnishings,
00:27:23may not align with the tastes of the average homebuyer.
00:27:26Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi's Los Angeles Condo
00:27:30DeGeneres and de Rossi, known for their knack for flipping and reselling mansions,
00:27:34have surprisingly hit a roadblock with their LA condo.
00:27:37Listed at $8 million, this property has been awaiting a buyer since 2014.
00:27:42It embodies modern luxury and style and represents the unpredictability
00:27:46and often capricious nature of the real estate market.
00:27:49Even with their established reputation and success in real estate,
00:27:53Ellen and Portia's venture with this condo demonstrates that market trends
00:27:57and buyer preferences can be fickle and unpredictable.
00:28:00The property, with its high-end design and prime location,
00:28:03seems to tick all the boxes, but it remains unsold.
00:28:07The S.K. Pierce Mansion
00:28:09The S.K. Pierce Mansion, a Victorian-era marvel built in the 1870s,
00:28:13stands as a testament to architectural grandeur and historical significance.
00:28:18Once the residence of Sylvester Pierce, a wealthy industrialist,
00:28:22the mansion has been embroiled in tales of the supernatural,
00:28:25casting a shadow over its marketability.
00:28:28Despite its stunning architectural features and rich history,
00:28:31the mansion's reputation as a haunted house has significantly impacted its appeal.
00:28:36Listed at a surprisingly low $329,000,
00:28:40this property's struggle in the market highlights the powerful influence of folklore
00:28:44and public perception in real estate.
00:28:46Potential buyers, deterred by the stories of hauntings,
00:28:49overlook the mansion's potential as a unique historical residence
00:28:53or a lucrative investment as a tourist attraction.
00:28:56Celine Dion's Jupiter Island Compound
00:28:58Celine Dion, the Canadian singer whose voice has captivated audiences worldwide,
00:29:03is as renowned for her real estate ventures as she is for her chart-topping hits
00:29:08like The Power of Love and the iconic My Heart Will Go On from Titanic.
00:29:12Dion, who made Forbes' American self-made women's list in 2021
00:29:16with a net worth of $800 million,
00:29:19has invested in several lavish homes,
00:29:21including a sprawling vacation retreat on Jupiter Island, Florida.
00:29:25She purchased the estate in early 2008 for over $7 million.
00:29:29She embarked on a grand project to create a Bahamian-inspired mansion,
00:29:33which was completed in 2010.
00:29:35This luxurious holiday home is not just a house but a compound,
00:29:39featuring a vast main home and five separate pavilions.
00:29:42The property boasts 13 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms,
00:29:46along with 415 feet of beach frontage,
00:29:49making it a true beachfront paradise.
00:29:51The estate is a testament to Dion's taste for opulence.
00:29:54It houses two ocean-view verandas,
00:29:56a tennis pavilion with a golf-range simulator,
00:29:59a pool house,
00:30:00an outdoor kitchen,
00:30:01and a beachside cabana with a massage room.
00:30:04The grounds include three geothermal heated swimming pools,
00:30:07a commercial-grade waterslide,
00:30:09and a four-car garage.
00:30:10Every aspect of the property reflects Dion's status as a global superstar.
00:30:14Despite its grandeur,
00:30:16her compound faced significant challenges in the real estate market.
00:30:19Initially listed in 2013 for $72.5 million,
00:30:23the property underwent several price reductions over the years.
00:30:27It dropped to $45.5 million,
00:30:30then to $38.5 million in January 2017.
00:30:34It finally sold in April 2017 for $28 million after four years on the market.
00:30:40The struggle to sell this magnificent property can be attributed to several factors.
00:30:45Its scale and price likely deterred many potential buyers.
00:30:49Additionally, the local annual taxes,
00:30:51which exceed $350,000,
00:30:54may have played a role in dissuading interested parties.
00:30:57The estate's bespoke nature,
00:30:59tailored to Dion's specific tastes and lifestyle,
00:31:02may have also limited its appeal to a broader market.
00:31:05Celine's journey in selling her Jupiter Island compound
00:31:08is a fascinating glimpse into the challenges faced by celebrities in the real estate market.
00:31:13Her story illustrates that even the most luxurious and well-appointed properties
00:31:17can struggle to find buyers,
00:31:19especially when they are as customized and unique as this Bahamian-inspired mansion.
00:31:24Dion's experience in the real estate market is a reminder
00:31:28that celebrity status and luxurious amenities
00:31:31do not always guarantee a quick sale in the complex world of high-end real estate.
00:31:36The house that was once the family home of Vincente Minelli and his daughter Liza
00:31:41is unrecognizable today.
00:31:43The Minellis moved into the house during the 1950s,
00:31:46and since then, a lot has happened in the home.
00:31:49Liza Minelli's abandoned childhood home,
00:31:51it unfolds a tragedy just like you would see in the movies.
00:31:55An anonymous person contacted Curbed Los Angeles,
00:31:59which is a comprehensive real estate website,
00:32:01about a sprawling and neglected Beverly Hills mansion on Crescent Drive.
00:32:06The website didn't know much about the property, nor did the tipster.
00:32:10After the first time the tipster drove by the mansion, though,
00:32:13they drove past many more times over the next few months.
00:32:17When Curbed Los Angeles did some research,
00:32:20they found out that the house once belonged to musical movie director
00:32:23Vincente Minelli and his family.
00:32:26They were Hollywood royalty at one time.
00:32:29The house was built in 1925,
00:32:31and was later redesigned by the famed Hollywood Regency architect John Elgin Wolfe.
00:32:36Very little is known about the people who lived in the mansion
00:32:39before the Minelli family bought it in the 1950s.
00:32:43When he purchased the estate,
00:32:44Vincente was hitting new heights in his career,
00:32:47and he was incredibly successful.
00:32:49Unfortunately, his private life was not going as well.
00:32:52It was actually becoming more and more tumultuous.
00:32:56About ten years before Vincente and his family
00:32:59moved into the Beverly Hills mansion,
00:33:01his directing career was really taking off.
00:33:04He signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the 1940s,
00:33:07which is what helped build his career.
00:33:09After completing his first film,
00:33:11Cabin in the Sky, in 1943,
00:33:13he made a name for himself.
00:33:15The next year was a very pivotal time for Vincente,
00:33:18both professionally and personally,
00:33:20when he started his next major project,
00:33:22Meet Me in St. Louis.
00:33:24On the set, he fell for the film's leading lady, Judy Garland.
00:33:28A year later, they were married.
00:33:30Their lives changed the day their daughter was born.
00:33:34The wedding took place in June 1945,
00:33:37and on March 12, 1946,
00:33:39their daughter, Liza Minelli, was born.
00:33:42Right after she was born,
00:33:44Liza became the center of her parents' world.
00:33:47From the outside, the family seemed to be
00:33:50the perfect Hollywood family.
00:33:52On the inside, things weren't as great.
00:33:55Vincente's professional life continued to flourish
00:33:58as he created amazing movies for MGM.
00:34:01Unfortunately, his married life wasn't doing as well.
00:34:05Judy was suffering from depression,
00:34:07anxiety, and substance abuse,
00:34:09and it was very well known.
00:34:11It was even the topic of an article in The New Yorker.
00:34:14Sadly, Judy's problems were tearing her family apart.
00:34:17While Judy was drowning in her mental health
00:34:20and substance abuse issues,
00:34:22Vincente had only two priorities.
00:34:24First, he loved his work.
00:34:26Second, he loved to dote on his daughter, Liza.
00:34:30According to Judy, this left no time for her.
00:34:33As things got worse for Judy,
00:34:35she was released from her contract with MGM,
00:34:38and that only made things worse for Judy Garland.
00:34:41She tried to take her own life after that, twice.
00:34:44By 1950, just five years into their marriage,
00:34:47things were falling apart.
00:34:49When Judy was released from MGM,
00:34:51she was at the lowest point in her life.
00:34:54Her unhappy marriage wasn't helping,
00:34:56and that led to her having an affair
00:34:58with businessman Sidney Luft.
00:35:00This ended the couple's marriage for good,
00:35:02and they were divorced in 1951.
00:35:04While this was a difficult time for Vincente as well,
00:35:07he found great success in the same year,
00:35:09which eased the pain that he felt
00:35:11when the marriage failed.
00:35:12Shortly after the divorce,
00:35:14he won his first Academy Award
00:35:16for an American in Paris.
00:35:18It was then that he moved into the Beverly Hills estate.
00:35:21Back then, the mansion was very impressive.
00:35:23It looked nothing like what it looks like today.
00:35:26The mansion was located on Crescent Drive,
00:35:29and it spanned 5,900 square feet.
00:35:32There were 19 rooms in the house,
00:35:34with six bedrooms, six bathrooms,
00:35:37a formal dining room, and more.
00:35:39He moved into the mansion with his second wife,
00:35:41Georgette Magnani,
00:35:42and they were living the life of A-listers.
00:35:45According to an article published
00:35:47in the Los Angeles Times decades later,
00:35:49there were large dressing rooms in the house,
00:35:51and many rooms dedicated to mementos
00:35:53from Vincente's many movies.
00:35:55He wanted the home to be perfect
00:35:57for his beloved daughter, Liza,
00:35:59and he did his best to turn it into her dream house.
00:36:03When Vincente and Judy divorced,
00:36:05Liza spent half the year with her mother
00:36:07and half the year with her father.
00:36:09Vincente took every opportunity he could
00:36:11to dote upon his daughter.
00:36:13It's been reported that every year
00:36:15he commissioned new outfits for Liza,
00:36:17and no expense was spared when it came to her.
00:36:20He also hired state and film artist Tony Duquette
00:36:23to design a large playhouse for Liza.
00:36:26He had it placed within the estate's
00:36:2842,500 square feet of land.
00:36:31At the time, things were going great for the director.
00:36:33He had plenty of money.
00:36:35Liza grew up in the mansion,
00:36:37and it was the place to be for other kids
00:36:39her age as well.
00:36:41Actress Candice Bergen remembers going over
00:36:43to the house where they would play dress-up.
00:36:45Vincente would have a designer copy
00:36:47the costumes from famous leading ladies
00:36:49in MGM films and scale them down
00:36:51to fit a six-year-old.
00:36:53This gave Liza an incredible wardrobe
00:36:55to play dress-up with.
00:36:57Unfortunately, Vincente's career was flailing,
00:37:00and he was no longer considered to be
00:37:02an in-demand director.
00:37:04By the late 1960s through the early 1970s,
00:37:07Liza had moved out of the home,
00:37:09and Vincente had moved on to his third wife.
00:37:12At this time, his funds were dwindling,
00:37:15and his house took a hit.
00:37:17By 1976, Vincente had directed his last film.
00:37:21With his career over, he could no longer
00:37:23afford the finer things in life.
00:37:25Many of his friends noticed that his house
00:37:27on Crescent Drive had changed quite a bit.
00:37:30While things were going horribly for Vincente,
00:37:33things were going great for Liza.
00:37:35She had just won an Academy Award
00:37:37for Best Actress for her role in Cabaret.
00:37:40According to many reports,
00:37:42Liza came to her father's rescue.
00:37:44It's believed that she made several
00:37:46mortgage payments so that Vincente
00:37:48wouldn't lose the house.
00:37:50By the time Vincente was 83 years old,
00:37:52he was still living in the house,
00:37:54but now with his fourth wife,
00:37:56Lee Anderson Minnelli.
00:37:58At the time, he was not well.
00:38:00Because he was ill, Liza went back to
00:38:02the Crescent Drive home to be close to him.
00:38:04She was only there for a few days
00:38:06before flying off to France for a
00:38:08scheduled performance, and while she was
00:38:10gone, Vincente passed away.
00:38:12This led many to wonder what would
00:38:14become of the Crescent Drive estate.
00:38:17When Vincente's will was read,
00:38:19his love for Liza was again proven.
00:38:21He left the house to her.
00:38:23But there was one stipulation.
00:38:25The $1.1 million estate
00:38:28was Liza's, and he wanted to leave
00:38:30$100,000 to his last wife, Lee.
00:38:32He also wanted to be sure that Lee
00:38:34would be able to live in that house
00:38:36for as long as she liked.
00:38:38At first, the arrangement worked well
00:38:40for both ladies, but over time,
00:38:42things changed.
00:38:44By 1999, Vincente had been gone
00:38:46for 13 years.
00:38:48Just as his will instructed,
00:38:50Vincente's widow, Lee, was still
00:38:52living in the Crescent Drive mansion.
00:38:54She was living there alone.
00:38:56The house was filed by the Los Angeles
00:38:58Times in the house, and the interviewer
00:39:00got a glimpse into how the house had
00:39:02aged. According to the reporter,
00:39:04Lee changed nothing in the home.
00:39:06It was almost like a time capsule.
00:39:08His paints and easels remained
00:39:10precisely where Vincente had left
00:39:12them in his dressing room before he
00:39:14died. In 2002, the utterly
00:39:16unchanged house was put up for
00:39:18sale by Liza, and Lee sued
00:39:20the actress.
00:39:22When Liza decided to sell her
00:39:24home in the year 2000, she started
00:39:26quietly looking for a buyer.
00:39:28She finally sold it in 2002,
00:39:30but now that the house no longer belonged
00:39:32to Liza, what would Lee do?
00:39:34According to Liza, her father
00:39:36left her the house and asked that if
00:39:38she chose to sell it, that she would find
00:39:40a place for Lee to live. When Liza
00:39:42found a buyer for the home, she knew
00:39:44that Lee needed to be looked after.
00:39:46Honoring her father's wishes,
00:39:48Liza offered Lee a $450,000
00:39:50tax-free condo.
00:39:52When Lee heard about the sale
00:39:54of the house and the offer of a condo,
00:39:56she responded by suing
00:39:58her stepdaughter. In her lawsuit,
00:40:00Lee claimed that Liza had the electricity
00:40:02turned off, that she dismissed
00:40:04all groundskeepers, and that
00:40:06Liza's neglect of the home led to
00:40:08Lee suffering from embarrassment,
00:40:10humiliation, worry, and extreme stress.
00:40:12She refused Liza's offer
00:40:14for a beautiful new home and claimed
00:40:16that after Liza got married
00:40:18and feeding 850 of her
00:40:20closest friends a 12-foot cake,
00:40:22she went off honeymooning
00:40:24all over the world. She says
00:40:26that during that time, she was alone
00:40:28in a cold, dark house at the
00:40:30age of 94. Just
00:40:32a month after she filed the lawsuit,
00:40:34she withdrew it.
00:40:36Liza and Lee worked out their
00:40:38issues without going through the courts.
00:40:40Lee was able to stay in her late husband's
00:40:42house, and the lawsuit delayed
00:40:44the sale of the house. The
00:40:46house officially sold in 2004,
00:40:48but the new owners couldn't take
00:40:50possession of the home until Lee died
00:40:52or left voluntarily.
00:40:54By the time escrow closed in
00:40:562006, Lee was
00:40:5898 years old. At the time,
00:41:00Liza was paying Lee's rent to the
00:41:02new owners. Lee finally
00:41:04died in 2009, and the house was
00:41:06no longer Liza's responsibility.
00:41:08Also, she didn't have to pay
00:41:10any more rent, and that would allow the new
00:41:12owners of the home to move in.
00:41:14In 2006, Beverly
00:41:16Hills real estate agent Sheila Rose
00:41:18told the Times that although Lee
00:41:20was alive and living in the house, the
00:41:22new buyers would eventually move in and
00:41:24refurbish it. When Lee died,
00:41:26everyone was sure that a major
00:41:28remodel would begin. For some
00:41:30reason, though, it never did.
00:41:32The person who alerted Curbed Los
00:41:34Angeles mentioned that there were torn
00:41:36drapes in the upstairs window.
00:41:38It was evident that squatters had
00:41:40been staying in the mansion. Much
00:41:42of the trash in the house was recently left
00:41:44there. There were some reminders of the
00:41:46glamorous home that Liza grew up in,
00:41:48but it's clear that those days were
00:41:50long gone. According
00:41:52to Lee's initial lawsuit, the
00:41:54groundskeepers were dismissed, and
00:41:56whether or not it was true is unknown.
00:41:58However, the new owners never
00:42:00hired anyone to care for the yard.
00:42:02This negligence resulted
00:42:04in a disaster. There are
00:42:06piles of debris all around the yard,
00:42:08and the columns are crumbling.
00:42:10The pool that was once luxurious
00:42:12and filled with crystal blue water
00:42:14is now empty, covered
00:42:16in graffiti. The walls
00:42:18inside the house are also covered with graffiti.
00:42:20The walls are full of
00:42:22holes. Many belongings
00:42:24were still in the home, but most of it
00:42:26was destroyed.
00:42:28The question on everyone's mind is
00:42:30where are the owners of the house
00:42:32now? Enough time
00:42:34has passed that a renovation should have
00:42:36already begun, but instead
00:42:38the house has been neglected and is now
00:42:40far from the home of Hollywood royalty
00:42:42that it used to be. Inside
00:42:44the home are plenty of amazing
00:42:46artifacts from the time that
00:42:48Vincente, Judy Garland, and Liza
00:42:50all lived in the house together.
00:42:52Since the new owners have
00:42:54possession of the house, everything inside
00:42:56is theirs. They
00:42:58could be sitting on a treasure trove of pieces
00:43:00of Hollywood history, but
00:43:02instead have ignored the house
00:43:04and its contents, leaving
00:43:06it behind for squatters to take
00:43:08or destroy. Today,
00:43:10it is a far cry from
00:43:12what it once was.
00:43:14Maria Bartiromo's rise to
00:43:16financial news stardom.
00:43:18You have some fan nicknames, and we have to talk
00:43:20about this. I don't know if this is irritating to you,
00:43:22but it exists. A lot of your fans,
00:43:24you'll agree to this, have these different, they
00:43:26call you the money honey, they call
00:43:28you the business babe, all this kind of
00:43:30stuff. I'm serious. Maria's journey
00:43:32to becoming one of the most recognizable
00:43:34faces in financial journalism
00:43:36is a testament to her determination
00:43:38and expertise. Born in
00:43:40Brooklyn, New York in 1967,
00:43:42she grew up in a family that
00:43:44valued hard work and entrepreneurship.
00:43:46Her father owned the Rex Manor
00:43:48Restaurant, where young Maria worked
00:43:50as a coat check girl, learning
00:43:52valuable lessons about customer
00:43:54service and the value of a dollar.
00:43:56Bartiromo's career in financial
00:43:58journalism began at CNN,
00:44:00where she worked as a producer and
00:44:02assignment editor. But it was her
00:44:04move to CNBC in 1993
00:44:06that launched her into the
00:44:08spotlight. She made history as
00:44:10the first journalist to report live
00:44:12from the floor of the New York Stock
00:44:14Exchange, breaking new ground in
00:44:16financial news coverage. Her
00:44:18pioneering work on the floor wasn't
00:44:20without challenges, though. Bartiromo
00:44:22often found herself jostled
00:44:24by traders, but she persevered,
00:44:26gaining respect for her tenacity
00:44:28and knowledge. This groundbreaking
00:44:30reporting style quickly earned
00:44:32her a devoted following and the nickname
00:44:34Money Honey, a moniker that,
00:44:36while flattering, sometimes overshadowed
00:44:38her journalistic credentials.
00:44:40Throughout her two decades at CNBC,
00:44:42Bartiromo became known
00:44:44for her ability to secure interviews
00:44:46with top CEOs and financial
00:44:48leaders. Her show Closing
00:44:50Bell with Maria Bartiromo became
00:44:52must-watch television for
00:44:54investors and financial professionals
00:44:56alike. My name
00:44:58is Maria Bartiromo. I've been
00:45:00with Fox for eight years.
00:45:02The defining moment for me at
00:45:04Fox was hosting
00:45:06a presidential primary
00:45:08debate. What is your plan?
00:45:10The 6.5
00:45:12million dollar east side townhouse.
00:45:14Welcome back.
00:45:16It was a big week of housing data. February
00:45:18existing home sales out yesterday
00:45:20surging nine and a half percent.
00:45:22That was the largest monthly gain in a year.
00:45:24In 2007, Maria and her
00:45:26husband, Jonathan Steinberg,
00:45:28made headlines when they purchased a stunning
00:45:30townhouse on East 62nd
00:45:32Street in Manhattan for
00:45:34$6.5 million. This
00:45:36five-level residence, located east
00:45:38of 3rd Avenue, is a testament
00:45:40to their success and their taste
00:45:42for luxury. The townhouse boasts
00:45:44five bedrooms, providing ample space
00:45:46for the couple and any guests they might
00:45:48entertain. One of the standout
00:45:50features of the property is its
00:45:5239-foot long backyard garden,
00:45:54a rare amenity in the heart of
00:45:56New York City. The second floor of
00:45:58the home features a balcony that overlooks
00:46:00this private oasis,
00:46:02offering a perfect spot for relaxation
00:46:04after a long day of
00:46:06market analysis and interviews.
00:46:08Security was clearly a priority
00:46:10for the couple, as the home is equipped
00:46:12with a two-camera security system
00:46:14and a flat-screen monitor. This level
00:46:16of protection is understandable,
00:46:18given Bartiromo's high profile in the
00:46:20media world. The interior of
00:46:22the townhouse is just as impressive as
00:46:24the exterior. It features four
00:46:26working wood-burning fireplaces,
00:46:28adding warmth and charm to the living
00:46:30spaces. The kitchen, spanning
00:46:32an impressive 32 feet, is a
00:46:34dream for anyone who enjoys cooking or
00:46:36entertaining. Between the second
00:46:38floor's dining and drawing rooms, there's
00:46:40a wet bar, perfect for hosting cocktail
00:46:42parties or unwinding after
00:46:44a long day on Wall Street.
00:46:46While the townhouse was certainly not cheap,
00:46:48it's worth noting that the previous owners
00:46:50had purchased it for an even steeper
00:46:52$6.8 million in 2004.
00:46:54The slight decrease in
00:46:56price might reflect the changing
00:46:58real estate market at the time of the
00:47:00purchase.
00:47:02Life in the Hamptons. When you are in the public
00:47:04eye and you live in a fishbowl, like I
00:47:06feel like I do, people will always have
00:47:08commentary about who you are, what kind of
00:47:10a person you are, what you look like. I used
00:47:12to get, you know, we used to have a segment on CNBC
00:47:14called Buy, Sell or Hold, and people
00:47:16would call up and ask for stock picks, but before
00:47:18they would ask my guests, buy, sell or hold, they would say to me
00:47:20things like, Maria, congratulations on
00:47:22the baby, you know, you're having a
00:47:24baby, you're pregnant. I've never been pregnant.
00:47:26You know, I mean, I must have
00:47:28gained 5 or 10 pounds or something.
00:47:30While their Manhattan townhouse
00:47:32serves as their primary residence,
00:47:34Maria and Jonathan also own a
00:47:36beach house in the hamlet of West Hampton,
00:47:38New York. This second home provides
00:47:40the couple with a retreat from the hustle
00:47:42and bustle of city life.
00:47:44Bartiromo has spoken about how
00:47:46she and her husband enjoy spending time
00:47:48in the Hamptons, particularly on weekends.
00:47:50They often take advantage of the
00:47:52beautiful surroundings by going
00:47:54on long bike rides. Bartiromo
00:47:56has mentioned they frequently bike back
00:47:58and forth on the 14-mile long
00:48:00road where their house is located,
00:48:02providing both exercise and a chance
00:48:04to enjoy the scenic beauty of the
00:48:06area. Even in cooler weather,
00:48:08the couple makes the most of their beach
00:48:10proximity. Bartiromo has shared
00:48:12they often bundle up for walks on the
00:48:14beach during the winter months.
00:48:16Behind the scenes, her daily
00:48:18routine. Why do you keep saying it's
00:48:20an election year? Because they
00:48:22will manipulate it. The White House
00:48:24and the Democrats are going to want to put
00:48:26lipstick on the pig. Maria
00:48:28Bartiromo's success in financial
00:48:30journalism is built on a foundation
00:48:32of hard work and discipline,
00:48:34as evidenced by her grueling daily
00:48:36schedule. Her day typically starts
00:48:38at the eye-watering hour of
00:48:403.30 a.m., a time when most
00:48:42of New York City is still fast asleep.
00:48:44The first thing she does is immerse
00:48:46herself in the latest news.
00:48:48She scours various news wires
00:48:50and websites, like the Wall Street
00:48:52Journal, Financial Times, New York
00:48:54Post, and New York Times, to get a
00:48:56comprehensive view of the day's events.
00:48:58By 4 a.m., her hair and makeup
00:49:00team arrive at her Manhattan home
00:49:02to get her camera ready. This
00:49:04is followed by a phone call with her
00:49:06production team to discuss the day's
00:49:08show. Another call follows at 5.30
00:49:10a.m. for any last-minute changes
00:49:12or updates. Bartiromo typically
00:49:14arrives at the studio around 5
00:49:16or 5.30, having already gone
00:49:18through the script and the show rundown
00:49:20with her producer. But she is always
00:49:22prepared for breaking news that might
00:49:24require a complete overhaul of the
00:49:26planned content. From 6 to 9 a.m.,
00:49:28she hosts her show, Mornings with
00:49:30Maria, which features a packed
00:49:32lineup of guests, ranging from
00:49:34government officials to CEOs and
00:49:36industry experts. After the
00:49:38show, her day continues with meetings,
00:49:40interviews, and preparation for future
00:49:42broadcasts. To manage this demanding
00:49:44schedule, she often tries to squeeze
00:49:46in a short nap during the day.
00:49:48She also practices yoga regularly,
00:49:50which she credits with helping her
00:49:52stay grounded amidst the chaos of
00:49:54her work life.
00:49:56Jonathan Steinberg, the man behind
00:49:58the scenes. While Maria is the more
00:50:00publicly recognizable half of this
00:50:02power couple, her husband Jonathan
00:50:04has made significant contributions
00:50:06to finance in his own right. He
00:50:08is the CEO of Wisdom Tree
00:50:10Investments, a company he founded
00:50:12after pivoting from the publishing industry.
00:50:14Under his leadership, Wisdom Tree has
00:50:16grown into a major player in
00:50:18the ETF market, managing billions
00:50:20of dollars in assets. Like
00:50:22his wife, he comes from a background
00:50:24steeped in finance. His father,
00:50:26Saul Steinberg, was a well-known corporate
00:50:28raider on Wall Street. But
00:50:30Jonathan has carved out his own niche in the
00:50:32financial world, focusing on innovative
00:50:34investment products rather than the
00:50:36aggressive takeover strategies his
00:50:38father was known for.
00:50:40Balancing Career and Personal Life
00:50:42And I think it's important
00:50:44to do that regularly, to
00:50:46assess how you are
00:50:48living your life. One of the laws in the book
00:50:50is integrity. And I think at the end of the
00:50:52day, you know, we all know what
00:50:54the right thing to do is when
00:50:56we're faced with a dilemma. And
00:50:58you know, people want to be around integrity,
00:51:00they want to associate themselves with integrity.
00:51:02You can be incredibly
00:51:04successful and not have integrity, but you
00:51:06can't be
00:51:08successful, truly
00:51:10successful, without integrity,
00:51:12I believe. Maintaining a work-life
00:51:14balance with such demanding careers
00:51:16is no small feat. Bartiromo
00:51:18has spoken about the challenges of
00:51:20managing her hectic schedule while
00:51:22still making time for her personal life.
00:51:24The couple's weekend retreats to
00:51:26their Hamptons' home plays a critical role
00:51:28in this balance. The getaways provide
00:51:30an opportunity to unwind
00:51:32and reconnect away from the pressures
00:51:34of their high-profile jobs. She's
00:51:36also mentioned that she and Steinberg
00:51:38try to make time for social activities,
00:51:40albeit on the early side, to accommodate
00:51:42her sleep schedule. They enjoy dining
00:51:44out at some of New York's finest restaurants,
00:51:46including the Polo Bar and seafood
00:51:48spots like Milos or Avra.
00:51:50The Future
00:51:52For Maria As of 2024,
00:51:54Maria Bartiromo continues to be
00:51:56a prominent figure in financial journalism.
00:51:58Her move to Fox Business
00:52:00in 2013 marked a new chapter
00:52:02in her career, allowing her to
00:52:04expand her coverage beyond just
00:52:06financial markets to broader economic
00:52:08and policy issues.
00:52:10At Fox, she hosts not only her
00:52:12daily morning show but also two weekend
00:52:14programs, Maria Bartiromo's
00:52:16Wall Street and Sunday Morning Futures.
00:52:18These shows have allowed her to
00:52:20delve into more varied topics
00:52:22and secure interviews with a wide range
00:52:24of influential figures.
00:52:26It seems likely Bartiromo will
00:52:28continue to be an influential voice
00:52:30in financial media. Her ability to
00:52:32adapt to changing market conditions
00:52:34and viewer interests has served her
00:52:36well throughout her career.
00:52:38As for the $6.5 million mansion
00:52:40where she and Steinberg reside,
00:52:42it remains a testament to their
00:52:44success and a sanctuary from
00:52:46their demanding careers.
00:52:48Whether they're hosting industry colleagues for dinner
00:52:50parties or simply enjoying a quiet
00:52:52evening at home, this luxurious townhouse
00:52:54serves as both a symbol of their
00:52:56confidence and a private retreat from the
00:52:58public eye.
00:53:00Nancy Pelosi's
00:53:02House in Pacific Heights, San Francisco
00:53:04is a prominent property
00:53:06reflective of the upscale character
00:53:08of this affluent neighborhood.
00:53:10Pacific Heights is known for
00:53:12its stunning Victorian and Edwardian
00:53:14homes, panoramic views of
00:53:16the San Francisco Bay, and
00:53:18its status as one of the city's most
00:53:20desirable residential areas.
00:53:22Pelosi's House in Pacific Heights
00:53:24is a large mansion that offers
00:53:26luxurious living spaces and
00:53:28amenities. While specific details
00:53:30about the interior are not publicly
00:53:32available, it's safe to assume that
00:53:34as a wealthy and influential figure,
00:53:36her house features high-end
00:53:38finishes, spacious rooms, and
00:53:40possibly amenities like a private gym
00:53:42and home theater. The exterior is
00:53:44impressive with classic architectural
00:53:46features commonly found in the neighborhood.
00:53:48Given the high property values
00:53:50in Pacific Heights, Pelosi's House
00:53:52occupies a sizable lot with
00:53:54well-maintained gardens and outdoor
00:53:56living spaces. Situated atop
00:53:58of one of San Francisco's famous
00:54:00hills, the property has stunning views
00:54:02of the city's skyline, the Golden Gate
00:54:04Bridge, and sparkling waters of the
00:54:06Bay. Her House in Pacific Heights
00:54:08holds significance as her primary
00:54:10residence and serves as the base
00:54:12for her activities as a private citizen
00:54:14and as a public figure. It's where
00:54:16she retreats to relax with her friends
00:54:18and family, as well as where she hosts
00:54:20political events and meetings with
00:54:22constituents.
00:54:24Nancy's Vineyard
00:54:26Nancy Pelosi's Vineyard and Winery,
00:54:28Zinfandel Lane Vineyards, is in the
00:54:30renowned wine-producing region of
00:54:32St. Helena, California in the Napa
00:54:34Valley. Her involvement with the vineyard
00:54:36reflects her family's long-standing
00:54:38connection to California and
00:54:40her interest in wine production.
00:54:42Zinfandel Lane Vineyards is situated
00:54:44in one of the most prestigious
00:54:46wine-growing regions in the world.
00:54:48It is known for its ideal climate and
00:54:50high-quality grape varietals.
00:54:52Napa Valley is renowned for Cabernet
00:54:54Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Merlot
00:54:56grapes, among others.
00:54:58The Obamas
00:55:00President and Michelle Obama own
00:55:02several properties, and their wealth
00:55:04has grown exponentially since
00:55:06his time in office. The Obamas own
00:55:08a house in the Kenwood neighborhood
00:55:10on the south side of Chicago. This
00:55:12home holds significant personal
00:55:14and historical value for the family
00:55:16who served as their primary residence
00:55:18before President Obama's presidency.
00:55:20The property is a stately brick
00:55:22mansion with elegant architectural
00:55:24features. In 2019, the
00:55:26Obamas purchased a sprawling
00:55:28estate on Martha's Vineyard, an
00:55:30affluent island off the coast of
00:55:32Massachusetts. The property spans
00:55:34approximately 29 acres in the
00:55:36Edgartown area and includes a large
00:55:38main house, guest houses, a
00:55:40swimming pool, and expansive grounds
