00:00At least 13 people were killed after a naval speedboat lost control and collided with a
00:08ferry off Mumbai's coast on Wednesday.
00:10The Neelkamal Ferry was traveling to the Elephanta Caves with more than 100 tourists on board,
00:16including at least 20 children when the collision occurred near the gateway of India.
00:21Witnesses said water started gushing into the privately owned Neelkamal as soon as it
00:25was rammed and passengers scrambled to don life jackets before jumping into the water.
00:31The municipal corporation said around 114 people were rescued, with four in critical
00:37condition.
00:38Rescue missions are ongoing to locate the remaining missing victims.
00:42It is learnt that the accident occurred during the trial of a new type of engine for the
00:46naval speedboat.
00:48Investigations are ongoing to find the cause of the accident.
00:52Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia payment of 200,000 rupees to
00:58the next of kin and 50,000 rupees for each of the injured.
