00:00a quarterback that has been in the portal a few times in the last few years from Texas to Duke,
00:05Duke now to Oregon State. At least the guy that's Malik Murphy, who has actually had success in
00:11times at Texas, but of course a very crowded quarterback room, a highly successful season
00:17for nine when Duke this past year in Durham now makes his way out to Corvallis. Of course,
00:24Duke brought in one of the top quarterback prospects in the portal last week in Tulane's
00:29Darian Mensah. What did you make of that intriguing move for Murphy on his way to the bees?
00:33A little shocking to me, and the reason why I say that is you look at Washington State and you look
00:38at Oregon State this year, competitive, right? Washington State loses. They lost their offensive
00:44coordinator, their defensive coordinator, 20 players in the portal, 10 of which were starters,
00:51and who's to say the same won't hold true for Oregon State over the next couple of years. Malik
00:56Murphy did a fantastic job leading Duke to a nine-win season, 26 touchdowns, 12 interceptions,
01:02but going from Duke where there has been success to now, I want to say lateral or a step down
01:08to an underrated program in Oregon State that's not even now affiliated with the conference,
01:15and how is he going to even potentially make the college football playoff? Shocking,
01:19unless Manny Diaz and that staff didn't want him, which I can't believe.
01:24I'm very interested, if I may, in where Beau Pribula is going to land because
01:32Preston Stone is in the portal, but I believe is with SMU Tech.
01:36Correct.
01:37I imagine if SMU pulls off the upset, Pribula, Preston Stone might be like,
01:43all right, look, I got to go, guys. Go get him. Wish you the best.
01:46Yeah.
01:48Pribula leaving when he did, which I totally defend. You and I have talked about that.
01:54I thought a decision would have come sooner. I would have thought that him going, look,
01:58I can't let the game play out. I have to go now. I don't know if I'm off base. I thought we would
02:05have had something.
02:06I was just going to say that the schools tied to Pribula were UCF with Scott Frost and I heard
02:12Iowa, which again, I mean, all right, great. You want to go to that offensive juggernaut in Iowa
02:18and Tim Lester?
02:19I actually think he would be great at UCF with Scott Frost, McKenzie Milton, now the quarterback
02:24coach, that kind of style of athletic quarterback that Pribula is. There is no doubt about it.
02:29To your point, Kev, timeline was the very interesting thing behind Beau Pribula's
02:33decision, which happened late on Sunday night, caused a bunch of shockwaves through college
02:37football. The backup quarterback who not just fills in if Drew Aller is injured, but is a key
02:43component of the offensive scheme with Andy Kotelnicki now in the portal as his team prepares
02:49for the playoff. It's the unfortunate reality. James Franklin addressed it this week, getting
02:54ready for Penn State's matchup against SMU and said, listen, we knew Beau was going to do this.
02:59We wish him the best. It is that unfortunate timeline in college football. Listen, as long
03:05as they keep the facade up of student-athlete even in this professional landscape, tying it
03:10to the academic calendar, this is what has to sadly and unfortunately happen.
03:16So yes, for now, but there has to be something.
03:19You've got to start making exceptions. I agree.
03:21Be figured out, right? Like that is the... I mean, look, the student part of it is still
03:26relevant, right? Like there's no guarantee that Beau Pribula is going to go on to
03:31be in the NFL. Like the student portion of it could matter a ton. But of course, for Beau
03:37Pribula, his hopes and dreams are to be in the NFL. And again, he was left with no choice.
03:44Drew Aller was supposed to be there for three years at Penn State and leave. And again,
03:49Aller might have gone in round number one, but now that the money is what it is, I think,
03:54as well for college level, he decides to make the decision to stay.
03:58Right. I mean, that's what it comes down to. Look at Washington State. They have to do it,
04:03not just for the players, but if they do believe in the bowl system, you can't have all these
04:09players opting out before the bowl, the coaches. I mean, what is Washington State even going to
04:13do? Are they going to be fielding the team? We're laying the number with McChord and
04:17Syracuse. That's what we're doing. I'll give you a hot take. I actually don't mind it for the
04:22bowls because for me, maybe it's because it's gone well. It's been fun to figure it all out.
