00:00We welcome you back to the early line live right here on this
00:08Monday morning, our three hours coming to a close here on T-E-L.
00:14A lot of college basketball to get you caught up on before we
00:17enter the holiday break this week around the sport. Really
00:21some great games on Saturday that maybe you missed because
00:24you were watching the college football playoff or a double
00:27header of NFL action around the National Football League.
00:30Let's start with a great top 10 tilt in women's college
00:33basketball between number 7 USC. That's going to change on
00:38this Monday and number 4, UConn. The Huskies had started
00:43perfect this year in Hartford on Saturday night. They were
00:48hosting Juju Watkins and Southern Cal. UConn has dropped
00:52two straight to UCLA and USC. And oh, by the way, Juju
00:57Watkins, 25 points, six boards, five dines in that matchup
01:04against Connecticut. How did Paige Becker's answer on the
01:07other side? 22 points as well. Sarah Strong, 22 points and
01:1113 boards to match Becker's for a co-game high, team high,
01:15I should say, for UConn. Big win for USC in that matchup
01:21against Connecticut. So quickly, let's just look at the
01:24national championship odds in women's college shoots before
01:27we give you those updates around men's college basketball
01:31from Saturday afternoon as well. South Carolina still remains
01:35a short favorite of plus 280. The Gamecocks haven't been
01:38nearly as dominant this year as they have been in years past,
01:42but of course they have earned that pedigree. South Carolina
01:45was nearly a minus money favorite before this year got
01:48underway. Still the favorite team, but those odds a little
01:52bit more compact. USC, alongside a team they just beat in
01:57Connecticut, both tied for the second best price at plus
02:00450. Hannah Hidalgo at Notre Dame, plus 470. They have been
02:04highly impressive this year. A lot of good college basketball
02:08in the Big Ten right now. UCLA at plus 750 as well. Teams
02:13like Maryland, Ohio State, Indiana, Illinois, and of course
02:16Iowa going to factor into that conference title race and
02:20what it might mean for the national championship race as
02:23well. Michigan State women's basketball, by the way, off
02:27to a historic start. Also, if you can see this glove, it's
02:30because it's a little cold here in the studio. Don't want
02:33you to think I'm a weirdo. Anyway, let's get to the rest
02:36of our college basketball scores from Saturday. A bunch of
02:40top 25 teams in action in some marquee matchups, including
02:44in Birmingham, where number two, Auburn, absolutely hammering
02:4916th ranked Purdue. 87-69, the victory for the Tigers.
02:54Jani Broome has been without a doubt. There might be some
02:58freshmen that catch a little bit more accolades or storyline,
03:01but the big man from the SEC and for Bruce Pearl's Auburn
03:05team, the preseason SEC player of the year in Jani Broome
03:09has lived up to the billing and then some. Auburn has been
03:13ridiculous this year. They have played a very difficult
03:16schedule and they have looked great in doing so. A bunch of
03:19quad one wins and their only losses this year in those quad
03:24one spots as well, including in a matchup in Durham, taking
03:29on Duke. CBS Sports Classic at the Garden on Saturday. That
03:33would be Madison Square Garden. Ohio State, as a pretty
03:36hefty underdog against Kentucky, catching six and a half,
03:39seven and a half points, wins outright by 20 over a Cats
03:44team that was in the top five. We'll get the AP poll later
03:48this afternoon. 85-65, couple of marquee wins for Ohio State,
03:52sees an opener against Texas. That one, of course, in Madison
03:56Square Garden will do well. The other game in Madison Square
03:59Garden, UNC needed a power conference win and a quad one
04:05victory. North Carolina got that on Saturday. 76-74, over
04:1118th ranked UCLA. UNC is 7-5. None of their five losses are
04:16bad or will, I guess from the idea, hamper them come selection
04:21Sunday. It's just the quantity of those losses without a really
04:25quality win. So a big victory for the Tar Heels on Saturday
04:31at MSG. In some Big East games, as you saw, Marquette edges
04:35out Xavier. UConn continues to win, beating Butler on the road
04:39in Indianapolis. Let's look at those men's championship odds
04:43as well. We just sung the praises of Auburn. Short number
04:47at 6-1, the shortest price we have seen on any men's program
04:51to win the national championship this year. Auburn at plus
04:55600. Duke 9-1, Tennessee 11-1. The Volunteers, the number
04:59one team in the country this past week. We also have some
05:04bowl games starting at 11 a.m.
05:07Eastern Time. In just a few moments, UTSA against Coastal
05:12Carolina will get a doubleheader of bowl action started on this
05:17Monday. The early line returns tomorrow, 8 a.m.
05:20Eastern Time here on The Grid.
