Although the community of South Lismore in northern New South Wales is still recovering from the record-breaking floods of 2022, their local post office is providing plenty of reasons to smile. The efforts of post-master Tracy Ward have even attracted international attention with a crew from CNN recently paying the gingerbread cottage a visit.

00:00I just wanted to bring joy. I think, you know, Peter Pan said it very well when he said that
00:08becoming an adult is mandatory but growing up is optional and I find a lot of joy in
00:13life.
00:15We had this epic series of floods that destroyed our town, it destroyed our schools, it destroyed
00:20our homes, it ravaged our community and we're still really struggling to get back on track
00:25now so for me, my own little girl, she was quite young, we were homeless and displaced
00:31like most of our community and she wrote to Santa asking him for a toilet and a bed.
00:36And as a parent, when your child asks for a toilet and a bed, you have to really sit
00:41in that moment and take stock of what matters and what's important.
00:45You know, when we're little we look at that big Christmas tree and it glimmers and shines
00:50and you just feel like everything is possible.
00:53That's what our town needs to be reminded of. Everything is possible.
00:58We have people that were perhaps a little bit anti-Christmassy coming in and being grumpy
01:04to start with that turned around and changed their attitude completely.
01:07I love it. Congratulations to Tracy. Yeah, I think it's looking fabulous, really. Really
01:14welcoming.
01:16This little post office is absolutely amazing. I had to stop and take photos. It's absolutely
01:23beautiful. Do you actually have any postage to do? No, I just came in here just to take
01:30photos. It's gorgeous and it's put you in the Christmas spirit.
