Christmas is creeping closer and closer, so we’re taking a look at a brand new festive event here in Newport. It’s the first year that a proper winter wonderland has come to the city centre, so we’re taking a look around the site and see everything you can be getting up to at Newport’s winter wonderland.

00:17This is the first year we've had a proper winter wonderland here in Newport, and there
00:21was some fortune that the massive site is now available, after the Newport centre was
00:25knocked down, so Andrew and his team are happy to be right in the heart of the city centre.
00:29I gave them my vision, what I'd like to do. They've been very supportive of me. They've
00:36done everything they can to assist me, because like I said, it's something that the town
00:40centre wants, the people of Newport wants, and it's probably been six months putting
00:48it all together, because there's a lot behind the scene.
00:53The site itself is free to enter, so Andrew says that he encourages anyone to come down
00:57and see, even if you're just having a look around. There's plenty on offer at the site,
01:01a real ice rink, food, drinks, rides, roasted marshmallows, and some real Christmas magic.
01:09We only arrived on this site two weeks before we actually opened, so the infrastructure
01:16for the ice rink and the marquee went up a little bit earlier, but all this, we've put
01:21all Astroturf down, we've got a food court, all different seating areas, we've got a first
01:30class on-site security, which is managing, well, we've got CCTV up, we've got toilets
01:35on site, so I think we've more or less crossed all bases. So we just urge the people of Newport
01:43and the surrounding areas, be patient with us for our first year. I'm sure there'll be
01:49little hiccups along the way, something that can be improved on, but come down and get
01:55in the Christmas spirit.
