00:00President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed Republic Act No. 12115
00:05granting Philippine citizenship to Russian figure skater Alexander Sergeyevich Karovin.

00:15President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed into law on December 20
00:19the measure confers upon Russian figure skater Alexander Karovin
00:23all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities under the Philippine Constitution and existing laws.
00:29As part of the process, Karovin will take the Oath of Allegiance to the Philippines
00:33and be registered with the Bureau of Immigration which will issue him a Certificate of Naturalization.
00:39Earlier this year, during a House Justice Committee hearing,
00:42Karovin pledged to give his all in training and competitions for the Philippines.
00:47He also expressed a strong desire to bring pride to the country and help train aspiring Filipino skaters.
00:53Karovin is a skating partner of Filipina figure skater Isabela Gamis.
00:57Since 2021, the pair has won numerous international titles.
01:01In 2022, they brought home the Philippines' first-ever international medal for skating pairs
01:07lynching silver at the second Trophy Metropole Tournament in Paris, France.
01:11With his new citizenship, Karovin is expected to continue elevating the Philippines' presence in the global figure skating scene
01:17especially in the upcoming Asian Winter Games in China in February
01:21and qualification for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
