00:00Listen, I'm going to say this to you.
00:07Basketball and people hate hearing this old man on the porch, get off of my lawn, all
00:12the other nonsense.
00:13Screw everybody.
00:14Screw everybody.
00:15When I tell you that basketball was so much better a decade ago, two decades ago, it wasn't
00:23even funny.
00:24I don't know what this is, but all they do is chuck threes.
00:29That's what it is.
00:30It's a league that chucks threes.
00:32That's all they do.
00:33There is no rivalries.
00:36There's no wars.
00:38There's no battles.
00:39There's no violence.
00:40There used to be.
00:41I mean, absolutely.
00:43I remember watching Larry Bird and the Pistons punch each other in the face.
00:50There were violent games where guys were swinging haymakers at the other team.
00:55Violence.
00:56Not get kicked out, by the way, and not get kicked out of the game.
01:00And the Pistons, same thing.
01:03That was better basketball than basketball today.
01:06They say the players, that today the game is so advanced and everything else is a lot
01:10of bullshack.
01:12These players today are not better than those players.
01:15They're not.
01:16Anthony Edwards Scott leads the league in three-point attempts.
01:21None of us really want to see him doing that.
01:25We want to see him dunk in people's faces, which he can do, as well as anybody.
01:31And it's more impressive because he's not bigger than some of the guys on which he's
01:35dunking.
01:36That is compelling.
01:38And yes, we are a couple of old guys talking about hoops the way it used to be.
01:42And I would also raise my hand and say there were problems with hoops in the 90s, too,
01:48right?
01:49They became a little too much of a fistfight.
01:51It was fun and compelling at times, but it also bogged down.
01:56We had scoring in the 70s at times.
01:57You want guys to fill it.
01:59And the 80s was a lot like that.
02:01Ball kept moving around.
02:02Now, there are things about the game now that are advanced in the way that they weren't
02:06back then.
02:07And we saw this with baseball.
02:09Baseball had to go through some doldrums of people not talking about the sport every day
02:15for the commissioner to have to try some things.
02:18And frankly, baseball is in a better place now than it was even three or four years ago.
02:24It's a pitch clock at the top of the list.
02:26The NBA will have to address some of these issues, whether it's players sitting out or
02:33moving the line back.
02:35There are a bunch of different ideas that they should try at different levels of basketball.
02:39The G League is a perfect place to work this stuff out.
02:43Just try some rule changes and see if it makes the games more compelling on an individual
02:47basis.
