Elgin City manager Allan Hale welcomed big Borough Briggs crowd for festive League 2 derby win over Peterhead
Transcript
00:00We said before the game that we anticipated that big crowd would be here and it was really
00:03important for us that we got the crowd on our side early doors. The only way we can
00:07do that is by being on the front foot and being aggressive in our play in terms of the
00:12press but having a bit of conviction about us in the final third. The pleasing thing
00:15is that we've got so many injuries, it's been well talked about. For us, we've still got
00:20a lot of belief in the players that are here. I said last week, even though we lost the
00:23game, that we still put in a good performance. I think we showed today that we're a good
00:28side ourselves. We can take care of the ball, we can be an attacker, threat and defensively.
00:33We're pretty makeshift back four, to say the least. We've kept a clean sheet and I think
00:38that speaks volumes of the players and the performance of a top side like Peterhead.
00:42We're not getting carried away. The league is so tight and everyone's taking points off
00:46each other but the fact that we've had a big crowd here today and we've put in a performance
00:50that can send the majority of the supporters away happy, then we're delighted with that
00:54and delighted for the players to respond after last week's disappointing result.
00:58I'd like to think that many of those fans would want to return and see plenty more next year?
01:02Yes, hopefully. I think what you can see is that we're still a work in progress and we've
01:05still got things that we need to improve on as a group, the same as any other team. But
01:11the supporters can see that there's a committed team here and we're an exciting team. We try
01:15and attack, we try and be on the front foot. We try and excite the supporters by creating
01:19goalscoring opportunities and I think we've done that today. Hopefully, this type of crowd
01:24can be a regular thing here at Butterbriggs because, I've said it before, when Butterbriggs
01:29gets behind the team it can create a difficult atmosphere. We gave the supporters something
01:34to get behind the day and they've certainly done that. It was a good all-round performance.
01:39So many pleasing individual performances but collectively as a team, really good to keep
01:43a clean sheet against a team with the firepower of Peterhead. It's a pleasing day's work.
