00:00Another new year is approaching and we have a great desire for the new.
00:18The desire for the new is the desire for becoming, is it not?
00:26Do you understand why we keep looking forward to dates?
00:34The next important date, the next important date.
00:38Because there is a great need to become.
00:43Because we are yearning for change and there is a hope that maybe the next date might bring
00:52that change in my life.
01:01You don't need the new.
01:04Wherever there is need, there is dependence on time.
01:14You say something will come and provide me the new, is it not?
01:20You are dependent then on the future.
01:26The new will not come to you via time.
01:31The new is not contained in the future.
01:36Look at what is there currently, rather what is here currently.
01:45You will find the eternally new here.
01:50You will find the ancient new here.
01:54No new year will give you the new.
01:59So many new years have come and gone and become old years.
02:04What is happy new year today becomes sad old year very quickly, does it not?
02:13And they have come and gone and still you don't see another one comes like a deft salesman
02:26who has been duping you since centuries.
02:31Another one comes and he is confident, I will nail this customer once again.
02:40I did that on 31st last year, I will do it again on 31st this year.
02:49He is so confident.
02:53And you will again buy that happy new year.
03:00The ones who keep parroting happy new year, happy new year, ask them what happened to
03:05all your sad old years?
03:08Who will look at them?
03:12And how much happiness do you need that 30, 40, 50 new years could not supply to you?
03:19And if 50 years could not supply to you, how would the 51st be any different?
03:28The new, the happiness that you are looking for will not come through experience, will
03:33not come through time.
03:36It comes when you are a little less insistent upon cheating yourself.
03:46Look around, look at your relationships, look at your mind, look at your thoughts.
03:53And maybe you will suddenly cry out, the new, yes it is new, quite new, very new.
04:04The looking is new.
04:12Looking is new, so new, I never looked.
04:19And it is so damn new that every time I look at it, it is again new, a newness that replenishes
04:29itself, a newness that is like a fountain, like a river, that has an inexhaustible source
04:45that is replenishing the flow, yes.
04:59Every time you put your hand in it, all you get is fresh water, the same spot, the same
05:09hand, but the water is fresh, new, you don't have to move an inch, yes, you don't have
05:21to wait for the next happy new year.
05:29Always jump into the river, every single drop of water that will come to you is new.
05:41You don't have to say that, you know, the next fresh stream will come only in next December.
05:56Every moment.
06:06Those who will try to place and locate the new in time, the new in future, the new in
06:14specific events, will forever remain the clowns of existence.
06:26Maya is quite fun loving.
06:35She loves clowns.
06:58If you could be just a little more meditative, you would ask, what was I doing same time
07:14last year?
07:17Instead of fancying about what you would do the next year, why can't you go into the facts
07:26of what you have been continuously doing?
07:33It was the same you.
07:34Yes, a little bit has changed on the surface, but your central tendencies have not changed,
07:41so it was the same you last year as well.
07:45Yes, you have gained two kilograms, but still you are pretty much the same.
08:00And you are hopping and jumping and squealing.
08:08Then what did you get last year?
08:18Fractured tires, broken relationships, an ugly new job.
08:47More dependence on hope.
08:54And remember how you were hopping?
09:01You remember the woman you rushed to kiss when they switched off the lights sharp at
09:08midnight?
09:12That was supposed to be a happy new year kiss.
09:19That woman is kissing your neighbor today.
09:29And it is not as if all this doesn't matter to you.
09:37All this is eating out your heart.
09:41It is gnawing at the roots of your mind.
10:04And again you are ready to repeat the same tomfoolery.
10:18Happy new year.
10:27The kid that you were desperate for last year is in your arms today and it hasn't helped.
10:41You are still as desperate and as hollow as when you were wishing to have a kid.
10:52The kid is there.
10:55The wish has been granted.
11:04But you are equally distraught.
11:07Your eyes are so poor.
11:29Last year you were poor without a job.
11:35This year you are poor with a job.
11:52Jobs have come and gone, but your poorness, your internal poverty has remained.
12:02Happy new year.
12:14And there would be a particular happy new year after which there would be no more new
12:19years for you.
12:23Who knows this one might be that.
12:29And then you shudder to think of that.
12:35You don't even want to look at this possibility.
12:37You say, why must I listen to this crap?
12:41Let's think positive.
12:43Let's have rather happy thoughts.
12:47It's an auspicious day, I mean, we are commencing a new year.
12:57The fellow is talking of death.
13:01Yes, I am talking of death.
13:14Some of us might not be there to say happy new year again.
13:20I must talk of death.
13:30Is there anything that this new year can give you?
13:36You being what you were always throughout all these years.
13:45What will this new year give you?
13:48This new year might be your last.
13:50And if this one is not the last, one particular year will come, which will be your last.
13:56How do you know that you would have been redeemed even partially by then?
14:05How do you know that your soul-sapping thirst would have been quenched even a little by
14:16then?
14:17You are just repeating your routines.
14:19And when you are repeating your routines, how can you ever get anything new?
14:26These new years will keep coming and going and there would be no newness.
14:32And then there is just death of the body.
14:36No more new years.
14:41On one hand, you say you want something new.
14:46On the other hand, you are constantly repeating the old by just saying happy new year, happy
14:54new year.
14:55Don't you see the deep contradiction between your desire and actions?
15:08You want the new, don't you?
15:12If you don't want the new, then why do you always put up such an exciting show whenever
15:22something even remotely new happens?
15:28So it is certain that you are not quite contented with what is.
15:32You want change.
15:34On one hand, you want change.
15:38On the other hand, you won't let change happen.
15:44You just keep repeating.
15:58Life is repetition with no observation of the machinery.
16:13The machinery keeps operating on the auto mode.
16:26So what happens when you observe the machinery?
16:29Something new emerges from it?
16:32No.
16:33The machinery would remain machinery.
16:42The observation is the newness.
16:54Your glance, your sight won't change the machinery as such.
17:08But there is something about observation which will give you a taste of the new.
17:38God Bless.
