00:00More than 2,000 illegal bombings were committed by the police in the Bicol region

00:07under their oplan contra boga

00:10which started this December

00:12according to Ninio Lucez of PTV Legazpi.

00:17As part of the campaign against illegal bombings

00:20thousands of bombs were fired from different provinces in Bicol

00:23which was destroyed by the PNP earlier in Camp General Simeon Ola.

00:27This was led by PNP Bicol Director, Police Brigadier General Andre P. Dizon

00:31Bureau of Fire Protection, Bicol Director, Fire Senior Superintendent Achille Santiago

00:36and Julian Granadino, Senior Health Program Officer of DOH Bicol.

00:41We will continue to inspect the stores,

00:45we will continue to patrol,

00:47and we will continue to fight

00:49reminding our community not to be afraid of illegal bombings.

00:54According to the PNP,

00:561,258 illegal bombings and 1,514 illegal bombings

01:01were committed by the oplan contra boga on the first day of December.

01:06Sustained patrol on the road

01:10was the result of the bombings.

01:15Maybe the people thought it was not allowed

01:18so that's what we did.

01:22According to DOH Bicol,

01:24there are already 15 firecracker-related injuries

01:27that were registered from December 1st to December 31st.

01:30Seven of these were due to boga or improvised cannon.

01:33Most of the victims were children who were neglected by their parents.

01:38What is usually reported in our cases

01:40when boga is involved

01:42is the injury to the eyes.

01:45So it means that when the boga does not explode

01:48and the children look at it,

01:50what happens is that they explode

01:52and the cause is a laceration

01:56or their eyes look like they are torn

01:58and that can lead to blindness.

02:01According to DOH,

02:03two more cases were reported in 2024

02:06compared to the same date last year.

02:09Meanwhile, to encourage residents

02:12to use an alternative way

02:14to avoid the new year

02:16and not to be afraid of explosions,

02:18a barangay worker in Lungsod, Lingaspi

02:21thought of holding a contest

02:23for the smallest, best design,

02:25biggest and oldest firecrackers.

02:27The contest will be held tomorrow

02:29in the residents of Barangay Gugon

02:31and later tonight, the winners will be announced

02:33in different categories.

02:35Our objective in holding this contest

02:38is to encourage the residents

02:41to use firecrackers

02:45so that everyone is safe.

02:48The winners will be awarded

02:50by the local government.
