There seems to be about a million and one skating rinks in Montreal, yet somehow, so many locals end up flocking to the same ones time and time again. So in hopes of switching things up, Alanna Moore from MTL Blog went on a mission to explore some of the lesser-known rinks around the city, all of which are within a 15-minute walk from a metro station.

00:00What's up guys, it's Alana from MTLblog. I'm on my way to go around the city discovering
00:13local skating rinks that are within a 15-minute walk from a metro station. So let's see how
00:18it goes. I'm on my way to the first skating rink. It's at Park Martin Luther King in Coteneige.
00:26It is at Plum on Dome Metro. Little note to make sure you get out at the Barclay exit.
00:32If not, it will be an 18-minute walk like I accidentally did. But if not, it's a 15-minute
00:37walk. And on this list, it's the farthest one from a metro, so let's see if it's worth it.
00:42The park is right on that street on Appleton and it is super close to Plaza Coteneige.
00:56The ice is cleared off. It looks super nice. Very private. It's in a very residential area.
01:02There's two rinks. That one over there looks like it's for hockey. This one, beautiful
01:08size. And there's no one here right now. It's still Thursday morning, so it makes sense.
01:13So I would say this park is amazing to come skating. It is right off Coteneige Road, so
01:19there's tons of places to go eat around. Also, if you have kids or your little cousins, there's
01:25a little park right here too. And there's two rinks, so tons of space. Very clean. I approve.
01:35We are now on our way to Mackenzie King. I'm getting off at Coteneige Metro. It is supposed
01:42to be like two minutes away, so very easy to get to. Google Maps was not lying. The park is just
01:49minutes away from Coteneige Metro, but the skating rink at Mackenzie King Park is currently
01:55being cleaned, so I can't exactly rate the ice. And obviously no one is on it, but we know
02:03it's being cleaned, being taken care of. I found a major bonus.
02:11Look at the views that you get of St. Joseph's Oratory. Absolutely worth it. There's also a cute
02:16little forest behind. It's very calm, very serene.
02:23So Jean Brion is just four minutes from Coteneige Metro, but there's tons of stuff around it too,
02:30so we can get some ramen and coffee at the SAQ. You can see the skating rink right in front of me.
02:37It's close to a road, but the other way is pedestrian, so it's pretty quiet.
02:43And like I said before, tons of stuff around, so definitely worth it.
02:47There's some cool little structure next to it, a little artsy vibe.
02:54There's two different rinks. The one to the right is for hockey. This one is just a circular skating
03:04rink. Looks well done, quite clean. There's tons of pedestrian way around, super easy to get to.
03:14So clearly Coteneige and NDG have got it going on.
03:23Got off at Cadillac station and I'm making my way to Parc de Jean
03:29Haimont. I believe that's how you pronounce it. On your walk over a little glimpse of the Olympic
03:36Stadium. I'm making our way. Very residential area, but very, very cute. Yet again, we got
03:47two rinks. One for hockey that looks like it's upkept. Skating one, not so much. Tons of snow.
03:59Maybe they just haven't gotten around to it yet. There's a little Maison des Jeunes here,
04:05snowed up skate park. Definitely a cool place in the summer.
04:13It's a beautiful walk up Sherbrooke with a great view of the Olympic Stadium and,
04:19well, you can't see it, but it's got Les Montagniques to your left. So here we are at
04:25Parc Maisonneuve. There's a whole round loop to skate. This is a huge space compared to all the
04:33others. People are cross-country skiing. People are skating. There's people over there playing
04:41hockey. There's a big roundabout, sort of like a trail in Parc Maisonneuve that you can skate. So
04:50tons and tons of space. Also, if you are into snowboarding or skiing, just on the other side
04:56of the park, right in front of the Olympic Stadium, is a snow park where, as you can see,
05:02people are hitting slopes. We have now made it to the sixth and final skating rink at Parc
05:11Walter Stewart in Ville-Marie slash Hochelaga-ish. It's right near Rue Ontario.
05:18There's a cute view of a church right in front and currently I'm about to have the ice all to myself.
05:29So I have to say, out of the six, definitely Parc Maisonneuve. Maybe it is one that people do know
05:37about. But beautiful skating rink, beautiful views of the Olympic Stadium. And I would also have to
05:42say, even though it was a whole mission to get to, I really did like the rink at Parc Martin Luther
05:49King. It's in a super good location in Cote-des-Neiges. Honestly, I would go to all six of
05:53them again. Go out, discover Montreal, do everything. It's so worth it during the winter. We love to stay
05:59in our beds. It's so easy. But I'm telling you, all the exercise today made me feel amazing and
06:04it would do the same for you. Thanks for watching. If you enjoyed this video,
