00:00Many challenges are being faced by various government agencies over the past 100 years,
00:05particularly the agriculture sector.
00:07What should we expect from the agriculture sector in 2025?
00:14Alan Francisco of PTV has the details of the national news.
00:21In the midst of calamities that hit the country this 2024,
00:25the Department of Agriculture worked hard to help the Filipino farmers and fishermen.
00:34There were 17 typhoons and we haven't mentioned the El Niño and La Niña typhoons yet.
00:40So in 2024, our agricultural production decreased.
00:47We were affected by many typhoons and floods.
00:51Our production decreased by negative 2.2.
00:55But despite this, the Department of Agriculture worked hard
01:00to meet the needs of our farmers and fishermen.
01:04At the start of 2025,
01:07Mike Abilive, Agriculture Assistant Secretary, Joicel Panlilio, said
01:13that they will not stop their efforts in the agriculture sector.
01:17This is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive
01:21to continue to provide sufficient food for the Filipinos.
01:26I can say that we will succeed.
01:28We were able to launch a lot of programs.
01:30All of our programs and interventions
01:34to ensure that there is sufficient food for each Filipino.
01:40The President said that no Filipino will be hungry.
01:44So to ensure that there is sufficient food,
01:48we will continue to provide interventions to our farmers and fishermen.
01:52We are trying to ensure that we have sufficient supply.
01:56Sometimes, our staple food is rice.
02:00This is the most important.
02:01We have launched Rice For All.
02:04It's only P40 per kilo.
02:06In January 2025, they will launch Sulit Rice and Nutri Rice.
02:12The price of Sulit Rice is P35 or P36 per kilo
02:18and the quality is also good.
02:19They will continue to teach their farmers
02:22about the importance of post-harvest programs
02:25so that agricultural products will not be destroyed
02:28even if they produce a lot or harvest a lot.
02:31This also includes increasing the number of fish.
02:34The fight against African Swine Fever is also being fought.
02:38The number of barangays affected is 6,058.
02:42But as of now, there are only 365 barangays
02:46as of our data of December 6, 2024.
02:51So it has been reduced.
02:53It means that what the Department of Agriculture is doing is becoming effective.
02:58And we have already received vaccines.
03:02The increase in African Swine Fever
03:04does not stop them from other programs
03:06such as irrigation, fattening,
03:09lending to farmers and fishermen,
03:11and many more.
03:12We have a new amended law,
03:16the Agricultural Tarification Act.
03:18That's right.
03:19For our rice farmers,
03:21before, our allocation was P10 billion per year.
03:25Now, it has become P30 billion.
03:28Wow, that's tripled.
03:29P30 billion.
03:30Yes.
03:31The purpose of this P30 billion,
03:34the use of this is P9 billion for machinery.
03:37So since our equipment will be more modern,
03:42for rice farmers,
03:44our production will increase.
