00:00The Department of Agriculture is now looking into the possibility of putting a maximum suggested retail price on pork to lower its price.

00:09Meanwhile, they are investigating the possibility of importing rice at a reasonable price.

00:22The Department of Agriculture is now investigating the potential risks to the price of rice

00:30that resulted in extraordinary prices and led to the declaration of the Food Security Emergency on Rice.

00:38According to DA Assistant Secretary Spokesperson Arnel De Mesa, they are cooperating with the NBI to reduce the value chain of rice.

00:48The members of our committee have already ordered to investigate through the National Bureau of Investigation

00:55who are the possible contributors to the whole value chain, from importers, traders, wholesalers, to rice retailers.

01:06It should be noted that because of the Food Security Emergency on Rice,

01:09the National Food Authority is allowing the release of the buffer stock of rice and it is expected to be released next week.

01:18When it is released, it can be sold at a minimum price of P35 per kilo.

01:24The DA also noted that the supply of rice is not the problem in the declaration of the Food Security Emergency,

01:30but its high price at the moment.

01:34Meanwhile, the DA is also studying the possible reduction of the Maximum Suggested Retail Price or MSRP for pork.

01:43According to Agriculture Secretary Francisco Chu Laurel Jr.,

01:47the current P380 to P480 price of each kilo of pork in the family is questionable.

01:55Now, its farm gate price is only playing at P240 to P250.

02:02The DA said that the price of pork is not acceptable if it exceeds P400.

02:09If this is the case, the whole value chain of pork will be affected.

02:14And if proven that there is profiteering, the DA will issue an MSRP.

02:20We're currently studying that and digging deep into the whole value chain of pork

02:26to see if there is profiteering or not.

02:31If we have identified that there is profiteering, then definitely we will be doing an MSRP also for pork.

02:39The study is expected to be completed within two weeks or at the end of February.

02:44The DA will first consult all stakeholders in the pork industry, from pork farmers to retailers.
