In the short term, the loss of Russian gas will lead to higher prices in Europe but in the longer-term other producers around the world will fill the gap, expert in Russian energy and gas policy Professor Arild Moe says.

00:00The EU, as you said earlier, has found alternative sources in LNG from places like Qatar and
00:07the US. Is this further isolating Russia? And is it pushing the EU into a really high
00:15price category, which is unsustainable moving forward?
00:19I think it's quite clear that, at least in the short term, the loss of the volumes in
00:26Ukraine will mean higher prices in Europe generally, because the gas market is quite
00:34well integrated. How much? It's very difficult to say. But over a somewhat longer term, there
00:41are other suppliers who are filling the gap, and especially LNG producers around the world.
00:49So how this will look in a couple of years is a different issue.
