00:00We went to Sicilian & Q, an Italian restaurant in Manchester's northern
00:03quarter. We sat down to talk to owner Carmen Andrea about her own journey and
00:07what makes this place so special.
00:11So I was born and grew up in Italy, in Sicily, not in Italy to be precise.
00:19Yeah, my partner is from Naples and we noticed that there was this lack of
00:26Sicilian food. I wanted to start something. We said, why don't we buy a little cafe?
00:34And we bought this place that was a sandwich bar before. We renovated a
00:41little bit and the adventure started there. So we opened in 2018 and we were
00:50not a restaurant, but a rotisserie. Then we moved at the beginning of 2020,
00:59like two weeks before the lockdown. So great opening on the 6th of March. We
01:05were so happy, full of people. You cannot even walk in the premise and in two
01:12weeks they destroyed everything because they shut us down. It seems that we are on the up.
01:19I don't even know how to use that coffee machine. It scares me.
01:26Obviously the things like, you know, the appearance of the place. This is my
01:31sister. The food is on me because I use the recipe of my mom. I have the book of
01:39the originals. But the city is growing fast. A lot of places from London are moving here,
01:48like, I don't know, Sexy Fish, The Ivy. All these things are creating an atmosphere.
01:56So now it's like a little London.
