00:01One of the city's most exciting pop-up attractions is none other than Thunderworld, the UK's
00:07largest travelling theme park. Setting up right here in Bristol, this high-energy fairground
00:13brings the excitement of adrenaline pumping rides, funfair classics and carnival treats
00:19straight to your doorstep and it has become a regular in Bristol's calendar. Let's find
00:25out more about the history of the attraction and why it has become so iconic to the city.
00:32So we've been born into the fairground business, both my husband and myself were from fairground
00:38families. We typically did standard fairgrounds growing up and then after we got married bought
00:46bigger and more thrilling attractions which sort of paved the way for what we're doing
00:51today. From towering roller coasters and spinning rides to gentler attractions for little ones,
00:57Thunderworld is designed for thrill seekers of all ages. It's not just about the rides,
01:02there's an arcade of games, street food stores and entertainment that transforms a regular day
01:09in a full-on adventure. Thunderworld, you travel around the whole of the UK, tell me a little bit
01:15about the logistics of putting the rides together and opening and making sure it's safe then.
01:22It's very hard work so we've got a small team but they all work together very hard to make sure,
01:31obviously the safety checks are paramount now, health and safety is the first and foremost important
01:37thing to us so that's where the priority lies. Tell me a bit about the process of setting it up then,
01:44how long does it take, what do you have to do? Typically it will take between a week and ten
01:50days to set up this type of project, Thunderworld. A lot depends on the weather, so if the weather
01:58conditions are good we can do it in around a week. If they're bad and we're battling about under
02:05floor, bearing in mind we're on grass, we have the trackway put down so that we don't do any damage to
02:11the grass but it can be very trying when it's wet and windy. So logistically a lot goes into putting
02:19Thunderworld into the city of Bristol, so can you show me a little bit of the the behind the scenes
02:25of how we do all that? Definitely yes, come and take a look. Thank you, let's go. So the upkeep of
02:32these rides, so this ride for example, you've constantly got to check that it's safe before
02:37people go on it. Tell me a little bit about the upkeep and what's actually going on with this ride
02:42at the moment. Well at the moment, unfortunately this one went wrong and the motor needs to be
02:50reconditioned. It's just a working process, it's almost a 24-7 to make sure that everything stays safe.
