00:00Uh, in unfortunate circumstance, and the only thing that we could define this as is just
00:06a humongous tragedy in New Orleans as the Peach Bowl and excuse me, the Sugar Bowl has
00:13had to be moved to today at four o'clock Eastern due to the killings of over 15 people in New
00:21Orleans.
00:22Uh, the game was supposed to be played last night and out of precaution, they decided
00:26to move it today.
00:28This is a tragedy of epic proportions here in this country naturally, and they're still
00:34investigating this both in New Orleans and in Houston, Texas.
00:38But needless to say, our show that covers sports and sporting events needs to keep you
00:44informed as to what's going on with this game because it did affect the start.
00:48Now the game initially was postponed 24 hours out of caution.
00:54They've decided to now move the game up to four PM Eastern.
00:58So Georgia Notre Dame kick today will be four o'clock Eastern at the Mercedes-Benz
01:04Superdome.
01:05The CEO of the Sugar Bowl, Jeff Hundley, talked about the tragedy in Louisiana.
01:11Good afternoon.
01:12Obviously, uh, we wish we weren't here for this reason today.
01:16The Sugar Bowl committee has a 90 year history of being a good corporate citizen for the
01:22city of New Orleans, and that's why this tragedy hurts us as much as anybody, uh, right now.
01:28So our condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families as we
01:33all work through this.
01:35Of course, any time we have a major event in the city of New Orleans, public safety
01:39is paramount and we have full.
01:41And during the mayor and all the assets, the federal, state and local resources that they've
01:48applied to this event so that we can ultimately bring those responsible to justice and carry
01:56on with the major events that we have in front of us.
02:00Speaking of which, we were scheduled this evening to have a CFP quarterfinal played
02:07in the Superdome at 745.
02:10We have been in consultation with ESPN, with the college football playoff, with the Southeastern
02:17Conference, with the University of Georgia, with Notre Dame.
02:21All parties and all agree that it's in the best interest of everybody and public safety
02:27that we postpone the game for 24 hours.
02:32Scott Farrell Coast to Coast has you covered during the game today.
02:35He is on at 3 p.m. Eastern.
02:37Meanwhile, the point spread has moved in favor of Notre Dame.
02:41Georgia once a one point favorite, now a one and a half point dog.
02:45Total of 45 and a half, four o'clock Eastern later today.
02:49Also last night in college football, one of the best games we've seen all bowl season,
02:53and there have been a lot of them.
02:54Texas ends up beating Arizona State in overtime, 39 to 31, a wild game that the Longhorns led
03:03basically from the start until the fourth quarter.
03:05In fact, they led by two touchdowns, but Arizona State just fought their way all the way back
03:11to this one and almost won a couple of different occasions.
03:14Here's Steve Sarkisian as they head to the next round of the college football playoff.
03:19As far as our guys go today, not our cleanest game of the year, and that's okay to say that.
03:28But the one thing that I know about our group is when our backs are against the wall and
03:33when our best is needed, our best shows up time and time again.
03:37And the resiliency that these guys showed today was something that as a coach makes
03:43you really proud.
03:44I know that we weren't at our best, and it felt like a NCAA March Madness basketball
03:50game with the swings of emotions and things.
03:54But fourth and 15 in overtime to score, to come right back and score again, two-point
04:01conversion and then a great play by Andrew Makuba.
04:05Just proud of these guys because not every game is going to be pretty.
04:09Not every game is just going to go exactly how you want it to go.
04:12And there's going to be plenty of stuff that we're going to look at this tape and say we've
04:15got to do better and be better, but the one thing I won't have to say is that our toughness
04:19in our fight doesn't need to be better.
04:21And if there's one thing that you want as a calling card for your team, it's just that.
04:25And so I think it's a tribute to these guys up here and their leadership and the culture
04:30that we have and their ability to stay calm through the storm and execute when, like I
04:35said, when our best was needed.
04:37And meanwhile, Arizona State, as a near 14-point underdog, almost pulled off the upset of the
04:43bowl season.
04:44Kenny Dillingham, who just got a new contract extension with Arizona State, said nothing
04:48to be ashamed about.
04:50Yeah, I mean, that's one of the best teams in the country, if not the best team in the
04:54country we face today.
04:56We started off not so great and the way the guys battled back is remarkable.
05:01Like I told them, if they could rewind in the locker room, I hate to lose more anybody.
05:06But now that it's over, when you can reflect, and boy, these guys have come, is an incredible
05:13testament to the team.
05:15But golly, that one sucks.
05:18Indeed, a great season for ASU this year, nothing to be hanging their heads about, that's
05:23for sure.
05:24All right, Ohio State wins 41-21 last night in the Rose Bowl.
05:28This wasn't much of a game.
05:29They beat Oregon and led this game by four touchdowns, like as soon as you turn the TV
05:35on yesterday.
05:36They just completely dominated this game from start to finish.
05:40Oregon scored some late touchdowns to, in fact, push this over the game total.
05:44But Ryan Day, a few weeks ago, lost to Michigan and they were calling for his head.
05:49Now all of a sudden, he's one win away from the national championship.
05:51Well, in this game, there are ups and downs along the way.
05:58When things are going good, you've got to hug the guys you love the most.
06:01And when things aren't, you've got to hug them even harder, and you just hang in there
06:05and you keep swinging.
06:06I talked to these guys about it a couple of weeks ago, that's life.
06:11This team is resilient.
06:14When you surround yourself with great people, with great character, you find yourself working
06:18through difficult times.
06:20At the end of the day, we wanted to win a national championship, and the way that we
06:25got here wasn't what we expected, it wasn't what we planned for.
06:28But nonetheless, we had an opportunity to come back and play Oregon after we'd already
06:32played them early in the season, and that's the only thing that mattered.
06:36The guys have been doing a great job of staying focused.
06:38The staff has stuck together, but the players have stuck together.
06:42They're fighting to continue to stay together because the winner gets to play together another
06:46week, the loser doesn't.
06:49Those guys have worked hard to stay together, and now we've got an opportunity to go play
06:53Texas and a lot of football ahead of us.
06:57So the winner of today's Georgia versus Notre Dame game will play Penn State as the Nittany
07:03Lions beat Boise State 31-14 in a game that was not relatively close, although Boise did
07:10have their opportunities to cover the spread several times, unfortunately.
07:14For Boise backers, they did not.
07:16The biggest bowl upset of them all was Michigan upsetting Alabama 19-13.
07:22They were up to 15.5 point favorites in this game where Alabama and Michigan dominated
07:27on defense from start to finish.
07:29In case you missed the squabble yesterday, Illinois ends up winning 21-17 in the Citrus
07:36Bowl over South Carolina, and Brett Bielema, the head coach of the Illini, mocked South
07:43Carolina's sideline making the substitution sign.
07:45It was a trick play in the game.
07:46They were fighting on social media about it.
07:48If you want to go check it out, it's pretty funny.
07:50Also Miami, the Hurricanes fired their defensive coordinator Lance Guidry after they basically
07:54couldn't stop anybody all season long.
07:56One other bowl game tonight, 7.30 Eastern, Ole Miss now up to 17.5 point favorites.
08:00They take on Duke tonight at the Gator Bowl.
08:03In the NFL, Jair Alexander going to miss the remainder of the season, including the playoffs
08:07for the Green Bay Packers.
08:08The Rams have a game this coming weekend against the Seattle Seahawks.
08:11That means nothing to them.
08:13So they're going to be sitting their starters, including Matthew Stafford.
08:16Saquon Barkley's chase for the all-time rushing record is over.
08:19He's not going to play for the Eagles this weekend, and it looks like the Miami Dolphins
08:23will be starting Tyler Huntley in their game this weekend against the Jets.
