A 14-year-old girl pleaded not guilty at a Magistrate's Court in Bukit Mertajam on Tuesday (Jan 7) to a charge of stabbing her aunt.

The teen entered the plea after the charge was read out to her before Magistrate Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan.

00:17She was accused of intentionally causing injury to her 34-year-old aunt using a knife at a
00:23flat in Jalan Praijaya at 11.30am on January 3.
00:28It was reported that the victim sustained abdominal injuries.
00:32The charge was made under Section 324 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up
00:37to 10 years, a fine, whipping or any two of the three punishments.
00:42During the closed-door proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Zulfazli Hassan proposed
00:48bail of 5,000 ringgit.
00:52However, the accused's lawyer, Muhaymin Hashim, appealed for a reduction, citing that the
00:58defendant is a minor and still in school.
01:01Magistrate Mohammad Harith set bail at 3,000 ringgit with one surety and imposed an additional
01:08condition that the accused must not contact or disturb the victim until the case is resolved.
01:15The court also fixed March 20 for mention pending forensic and medical reports.
