00:00Good afternoon from Boddymoor Heath where Villa are preparing for tomorrow
00:05night's FA Cup third round tie with West Ham. It's been billed as the club's 150th
00:11anniversary match despite the fact it's taking place in the club's 151st year
00:17answers on a postcard to that one but plenty of news coming out of Boddymoor
00:21Heath today most of it concerning Jadon Philogene the winger who is on his way
00:26to Suffolk to Ipswich to join them for a deal worth about 23 million Villa due
00:32to get 20 million up front with a further 3 million in add-ons. Now it's
00:38going to complete a fairly curious 18 months of Philogene. He was an Academy
00:42product of Villa's, sold to Hull for 5 million in the summer of 2023, comes back
00:48to Villa Park in a deal worth 18 million 12 months later and six months after
00:52that he's going to Ipswich. His return last summer was heavily pushed for by
00:58Unai Emery who really likes the player and felt that Villa had perhaps made a
01:02mistake in letting him go to Hull and he did very well obviously last season in
01:06the Championship but this season it's just really not happened for him
01:10back at Villa he's only started four matches and with Leon Bailey struggling
01:16for form Villa really needed somebody to step up on the right flank and
01:20Philogene just hasn't really done that. I think heading into the
01:23window Villa's plans were to send him on loan you know they still saw him as a
01:29part of the future but I think essentially that you know Ipswich who
01:32came close to signing him in the summer was still keen and they've essentially
01:36given Villa a deal that was too good to turn down and will help Villa
01:41in the bigger picture with the other deals they want to do
01:45you know this this summer it's been an awkward one for Unai Emery because
01:49I said this was the deal that he pushed for personally and proof that you know
01:53all managers kind of make mistakes but it's one that Villa have you know done
01:59quite well out of financially. Tomorrow West Ham FA Cup it's about time Villa
02:04won a domestic cup tie really isn't it particularly at home it'd be interesting
02:10to see what team Unai Emery selects. I mean Martinez has made clear pretty much clear he
02:15wants to play so he wants to wants to win the FA Cup this year but Villa
02:21really it's about time they they progressed a decent distance in this
02:25competition so we'll see what happens.
