00:00This is the wild card weekend version guys.
00:02All right, so speaking of which, the first question is,
00:04which is the best wild card matchup this weekend?
00:08Excellent question, Kang.
00:11Always good to butter up the host first.
00:13I would say it's the Packers and the Eagles.
00:17Sunday afternoon, look, both quarterbacks
00:19are a little bit banged up, but both teams,
00:21frankly, their ceilings for both teams are really high.
00:25I like both of these football teams.
00:27It's gonna be a tough game,
00:29but it's a good offense versus a good defense
00:33on both sides, really.
00:35Just who's got the better defense.
00:37I think Philadelphia has a better defense
00:40when it comes down to it,
00:42and it feels like Philadelphia's got more experience too,
00:45but is Saquon Barkley gonna be the real difference maker
00:49in this game?
00:50Because that young man, he could very well be an MVP guy,
00:56and he's not getting to talk anymore
00:57because of the quarterbacks are.
00:59I like this matchup with these two teams,
01:01Philadelphia, and of course, we locally
01:03have a ton of interest.
01:04Wouldn't it be great to see the Packers do
01:07what they did last year,
01:08which is walk into a visiting stadium
01:11and just tear the heart out of that franchise
01:14and then get to play another week.
01:16We would love that here in Detroit
01:17if the Packers took care of business against Philadelphia.
01:20Unfortunately, as we know here,
01:21the Packers are incapable of helping Detroit out.
01:25Most excellent question, Kang.
01:27Get off my job.
01:31My Kang's job?
01:33Gators bit, man, come on.
01:34So, look, I guess it depends on what your definition
01:37of best is.
01:37Does best mean the closest game?
01:39Does best mean lots of points?
01:41Does best mean local interest?
01:42Does best mean upset?
01:45I'm just gonna give a little sidebar here
01:47before I get to my answer.
01:49I think Tomlin might have something in store
01:51for Lamar and Derrick Henry and the Ravens.
01:54I'd rather watch Mike Tomlin and the Steelers team.
01:58We can get more to that later.
02:00But I agree with you.
02:01I think it's Eagles-Packers.
02:02Here's the thing about it
02:03because I'm looking at it from a local perspective.
02:05Which game do I care about most?
02:06And the game I care about most is the Packers and the Eagles
02:09because the Green Bay Packers could do some heavy lifting
02:12for the Detroit Lions,
02:13and it's looking like it's more possible
02:15with Jalen Hurt's situation.
02:17Yes, he was on the practice field yesterday,
02:20but no, he has not been out of concussion protocol yet.
02:23There are five steps,
02:24part of the NFL's concussion protocol
02:26return to play process.
02:28And if you fail one of them, you go back to the first.
02:30He has not been cleared to play yet.
02:33So while he was out on the field,
02:35he didn't really go through a full practice.
02:38And yeah, the idea that the Packers
02:39could do some heavy lifting for Detroit again,
02:42because they did it last year.
02:44They did it last year.
02:45They beat Dallas, which gave Detroit a home game.
02:47So I think Green Bay could do it again
02:49and knock off the number two seed.
02:51Yeah, you're right, Doug.
02:52It's gonna depend on what your definition of best is
02:54for the best wildcard matchup this weekend.
02:56I'm going with the most entertaining.
02:58And I think the most entertaining game this weekend
03:00is gonna be the Minnesota Vikings versus the LA Rams.
03:02I just think a 14 and two team that's gotta go on the road,
03:06they're a good team.
03:07And they're actually the favorite in this,
03:08if you're gonna be betting in this game at all.
03:11You got Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay
03:14versus Brian Flores and that Vikings defense.
03:17You got Kevin O'Connell going against
03:18his good buddy, Sean McVay.
03:20You know, I think there's a lot of storylines there.
03:22I think you got two solid teams here.
03:23I think it's gonna be a really good matchup.
03:25And I was gonna mention something about them being in LA
03:28and supposed to be a home game for the Rams,
03:31which never, it feels like it never really is.
03:32But this game actually might be moved to Arizona
03:34because of the fires, unfortunately.
03:36But other than that, putting that to the side,
03:38I just think that the entertainment on the field
03:39is gonna make this the best matchup this weekend.
03:44All right, guys, should the Vikings, speaking of the Vikings,
03:46should they bring back Sam Darnold next year
03:48and trade JJ McCarthy or move on from Sam Darnold
03:52and just go with JJ McCarthy?
03:53So in this world, we are so easily become prisoners
03:56of what our eyes showed us last.
03:58And if that's the case, 18 for 41
04:00against a depleted Lions defense
04:02is a tough pill to swallow for Darnold.
04:04Honestly, I think it depends on how Darnold
04:06looks in the playoffs.
04:07Because if he follows up the Lions dud
04:09with a second big game, poor performance,
04:13I'd let Darnold hit the market.
04:14And by that, I mean, I wouldn't make him some massive
04:16he can't refuse an offer before he becomes a free agent.
04:19I'd make him an offer.
04:20But I'm not gonna cripple my franchise to keep him
04:23because I don't know if I can commit to him
04:25as the quarterback if he follows up that poor performance
04:28against the Lions with another poor performance
04:30in the playoffs.
04:31If he does follow it up that way,
04:33then I make it an open competition.
04:35I make him a competitive-ish offer,
04:37but I don't sweat it if he goes to the open market
04:39and finds elsewhere.
04:40Well, I agree with a lot of what you had to say,
04:42but it totally depends on what happens in the playoffs.
04:45I mean, if the Lions did expose him,
04:46they're not gonna want him back.
04:48Look, I don't like either quarterback situation
04:51with Minnesota.
04:51I don't like Darnold, as you know,
04:53and I'm not a J.J. McCarthy guy.
04:55But I sure wouldn't commit long-term and money
04:59to Sam Darnold.
05:00If you wanna get something done short-term,
05:01you can go ahead and do that and let the young kid
05:03sit down and rest and watch from the sidelines as need be.
05:07But at least you have the unknown with J.J.
05:10I feel like you already know what you got with Sam Darnold.
05:12And was his ceiling already reached
05:14during the regular season,
05:16and now he's exposed again for being Sam Darnold?
05:19Yeah, I mean, Sam Darnold, almost called Mick Darnold.
05:23Sam Darnold may as well be playing
05:26for his Vikings job this weekend.
05:27But I know he might have peaked in the regular season,
05:30Gator, but I can't ignore what he did in the regular season.
05:33It was a great regular season.
05:34I think what you do is you franchise him.
05:36I know it's committing a lot of money,
05:38but it's only one year at least.
05:39You franchise him and you keep J.J.
05:42And you keep developing J.J.
05:44Because I think he's still,
05:45I know it's just a shot of him in his shorts
05:47and a t-shirt essentially,
05:48but he don't look like he gained any weight
05:50except for more hair.
05:51Like this, he does not look ready.
05:52He doesn't look like an NFL quarterback yet.
05:54Doesn't mean he won't be one eventually,
05:56but I think everyone in this league is so in a hurry
05:59to rush a rookie quarterback or a young quarterback to play
06:02when sometimes it's okay to sit and learn and develop.
06:05And I think that's what they should do with J.J. McCarthy.
06:07Franchise Sam Darnold, bring him back next year.
06:10If it doesn't work out,
06:10you do have J.J. McCarthy there to pick it up, hopefully.
06:15All right, it feels like this topic has been done
06:17over a million times this year, debated a million times,
06:20and I've been told it has been over a million times.
06:22But finally, guys, in the end now,
06:24who will win the NFL MVP?
06:26Josh Allen wins it.
06:28That's what you're asking, not who I would choose,
06:30but that's Josh Allen.
06:31He's gonna win it.
06:32The media already anointed him the MVP several weeks ago
06:34despite Lamar Jackson having better numbers.
06:37Allen's worthy, for sure.
06:40Overcoming an average defense.
06:41He's putting points on the board consistently.
06:45And he's as tough as they come.
06:46I just think that Lamar has made his players
06:49better around him.
06:50And then there's the whole Saquon Barkley argument
06:52that I kind of alluded to earlier
06:54that that guy could really make a claim too.
06:56But it seems like it's a quarterback award.
06:58And like I said, the media already picked this one out
07:01a few weeks ago.
07:03In the interest of time, I'll just quickly agree with you.
07:05It's Josh Allen.
07:06He's the first quarterback in NFL history
07:07to throw for over 40 touchdowns
07:09and commit fewer than eight turnovers.
07:11And the Bills averaged three points per drive,
07:13which is one of the greatest totals in NFL history.
07:17Josh Allen's gonna win it.
07:18I'll make it three for three.
07:19I think Josh Allen will win it as well.
07:21But I agree with you, Gator.
07:22I think Lamar Jackson should actually win it.
07:25But I think there's voter fatigue
07:26that's setting in with Lamar.
07:27And he does get punished
07:28because he hasn't done well in the postseason,
07:30even though this is a regular season award.
07:32But I agree.
07:33I think Lamar Jackson's had the better regular season,
07:35and this is a regular season award.
07:36But in the end, Josh Allen will win it.
07:39All right, guys.
07:40Where will Tyreek Hill be playing football next year?
07:43So what are the requirements for Tyreek Hill
07:45to have this make sense?
07:46You have to have a good team, or he'll pitch.
07:48We've seen that.
07:49You have to have a good quarterback.
07:51You have to have cap space,
07:52and you have to have a real need wide receiver.
07:54So next year, Tyreek Hill will be with the LA Chargers.
07:58They're good.
07:59They have a good quarterback.
08:00They have a seventh most cap space,
08:02and they could use an elite receiver.
08:04Tyreek Hill to the Chargers.
08:06Tyreek Hill to the Chargers.
08:07Yeah, I don't know how they're gonna be able to move him.
08:09It's a massive cap hit of $28 million
08:13for the Dolphins to take that on.
08:15I actually think he's gonna end up apologizing publicly
08:18here in the next couple days, and they'll make amends,
08:20and he's gonna spend next year with Miami
08:22and move on after that,
08:23because I think he's got an out
08:24in his contract after next season.
08:27Very interesting, Gator.
08:28I was gonna say,
08:28don't rule out Tyreek coming back to Miami next year.
08:31But if Mike McDaniel wants to take back control
08:34of that locker room, he needs to trade Tyreek Hill.
08:37Apparently, people have been showing up late all year long,
08:39and you can't let this happen.
08:42And so you kind of make an example out of Tyreek Hill,
08:44and you trade him.
08:45If he is to get traded,
08:46I've got the Houston Texans doing it again.
08:48They went out and got Diggs last year,
08:50but they reworked his deal
08:51to make it only a one-year contract.
08:53So Diggs is out of there this year.
08:54You saw what happened to Tank Dell.
08:56And if Nico gets hurt again, they have no receivers.
09:00They've shown they like to make a big splash,
09:02help CJ Stroud out.
09:03I think if he does get traded,
09:05watch out for the Houston Texans.
09:09All right, first it was Kyle Shanahan,
09:11and now two more coaches have been rumored
09:13to possibly be traded.
09:14Kevin O'Connell of the Vikings,
09:16and Mike Tomlin of the Steelers.
09:18Is the coach gonna get traded this offseason?
09:21I don't think so.
09:23I just think that, you know,
09:26really good situations for O'Connell
09:28and Tomlin in particular.
09:29But if I had to pick one,
09:31if I had to pick one, I would say it would be Tomlin,
09:34because there might be some fatigue in Pittsburgh,
09:36running it back every year,
09:38and they haven't won a playoff game since 2016,
09:40if I'm not mistaken.
09:41So I could see that happening more likely than O'Connell,
09:46but, you know, because the whole Mike McCarthy situation
09:49with the Bears interviewing,
09:50or wanting to interview him in Dallas saying no-go,
09:53I don't think it happens this year.
09:56So if I were a team and I were a GM,
09:59I would never trade for a coach for two reasons.
10:01One, as a qualified GM,
10:04I'd like to think I'd be a qualified GM,
10:06I would think that I'd be able to go out and hire a coach.
10:08Secondly, as a GM,
10:09I wouldn't want to give up any draft capital,
10:11which is usually what goes the other direction,
10:13to get a coach, because this is how I build a team.
10:17And I don't think a coach is gonna get traded.
10:20In the last 18 years, it's only happened twice.
10:23And one of those times, the coach that was traded,
10:24Sean Payton, was actually in retirement.
10:27So this was something that was kind of big
10:29around the turn of the century.
10:31It hasn't happened nearly as much.
10:33I don't think it happens this year.
10:34Yeah, this is a lot of smoke,
10:35but I don't think there's any fire.
10:37But I know it hasn't happened a lot, Doug,
10:39but the two times,
10:41look what Sean Payton's doing with Denver right now.
10:43They look great.
10:44And John Gruden brought a Super Bowl to Tampa.
10:47So I think, you don't want to give a draft capital lever,
10:51but if they find the right coach
10:52to turn around your organization, it's worth it.
10:54But I think to me, the crazy talk is trading Tomlin.
10:57He's criticized for underachieving by overachieving.
11:00Make it make sense, I don't understand.
11:02I can't make it make sense.
11:06All right, last one, guys.
11:07Justin Herbert said this week that Jim Harbaugh told him
11:11that Harbaugh can remember the day he was born.
11:14Thoughts?
11:16Nothing that comes out of Jim Harbaugh's mouth
11:19surprised me anymore.
11:21I would sit with him every week, okay?
11:24It was some of the strangest experiences
11:26I've had in my professional career.
11:29It wouldn't shock me if Jim Harbaugh came out and said,
11:32not only do I remember being born this time.
11:35This time, yeah.
11:37Yeah.
11:41Yeah, listen, Kang, sure he can.
11:46He can remember that, but he doesn't recall things
11:48that happened within the last couple of years
11:49when he was being questioned by the NCAA.
11:51I mean, the guy's a hell of a football coach,
11:53there's no question about it,
11:54but he's also a bit of a loon.
11:57Just a bit of one.
11:59Whatever he thinks gets him over with his team,
12:01hey, don't change, Jim, you go ahead and you be you.
12:04But in the end, his act has proven to wear out
12:08and he wears out his welcome
12:10and he'll move on to the next big thing.
12:11But enjoy it right now, Chargers, and you got a window,
12:14but the window and that clock is ticking already.
12:17He's gotta be the weirdest best football coach ever.
12:20I mean, I'm pretty sure he's gonna say next,
12:22he remembers his conception as well.
12:25I remember the path, the swim I took,
12:27that I beat the other guys, you know what I mean?
12:29Whatever, it makes me think of George Costanza's line
12:32from Seinfeld, it's not a lie if you believe it.
12:35God bless you, Jim Harbaugh.
12:37And that concludes the Y9 Omaha four down
12:40around the league, Blitz thinking.
