An organised crime figure has been shot dead during a targeted attack in a residential street in Melbourne's west. Police have described the attack as brazen and irresponsible, and they fear it could spark reprisals.

00:07It was five or six rounds. I thought it was firecrackers. I didn't even think it was gunshots.
00:13Bang, bang, bang. I thought somebody banging on somebody's door. I look in my door, there's nobody there.
00:1933-year-old Haher Shawani died from gunshot injuries at Herson Parkway in Caroline Springs last night, just after 10.30pm.
00:29Neighbours calling triple zero and performing first aid while waiting for first responders.
00:36There was one gunshot just near the ribs, under the ribs. That's what we can see. And he was passing out, in and out.
00:45Mr Shawani has been linked to at least two prior incidents.
00:49He was shot at in Fraser Rise in March last year and was involved in an assault in Ravenhall in July 2023.
00:58There's been a couple of other incidences where he has been the victim and we have been investigating that as well.
01:03Police combed through the evidence this morning. Bullet holes were found in a car and a window.
01:09And a gun was seized for forensic examination.
01:13While a stolen car was found burnt out nearby in Fraser Rise.
01:18Police are still unsure how many offenders were involved.
01:22We believe one of the offenders may have been injured at the time of the attack.
01:28So we do urge them to get medical assistance and it's very important that they do that because it could be quite serious injuries.
01:36Police say the targeted attack was a culmination of a two-year feud with possible links to other organised crime.
01:43They're concerned the shooting came close to putting the public in harm's way.
01:48Police calling for anyone with information to get in touch.
