00:00Well, police believe Sam Abdul-Rahim was staying at the Quest Apartments here on High Street
00:08in Preston when he was ambushed in the basement car park, shot multiple times.
00:13He was with his partner at the time who administered first aid, but she was unsuccessful.
00:18She's now doing her best to help police with their inquiries and police say she's understandably
00:24incredibly distressed.
00:25Now, Sam Abdul-Rahim is an underworld figure here in Melbourne, notorious.
00:31There have been multiple attempts on his life, most notably in 2022 when he was shot at a
00:36funeral in Faulkner.
00:38There have been attacks on his home in the northern suburbs.
00:40It was burnt out in August last year and sources have told the ABC that there was a million
00:46dollar bounty on his head.
00:48Police spoke not too long ago.
00:50Let's take a listen to what they had to say.
00:53Whenever we've been aware of direct threats, we have entered into discussions with our
01:01deceased person and let him know and discussed options that are available to him.
01:06But there is nothing to suggest right at this point, and I say it's early in the investigation,
01:12that there was any information that we had right now.
01:18So it really was just a matter of time.
01:21Was close to Mr. Abdul-Rahim telling us that he knew that his days were numbered.
01:26Now there is another crime scene down the road in Northern Hay Street in Reservoir.
01:31That's where a burnt out car is.
01:34Police say that a car involved in the attack headed north down High Street and ended up
01:40in Northern Hay Street where it was burnt out.
01:43Now police want to talk to anyone who saw anything in relation to this attack.
01:48High Street is a very busy street.
01:49They're hoping that somebody caught something on dash cam.
01:53But here on High Street we've spoken to business owners.
01:56There's a lot of confusion about what happened.
01:58Nobody really heard shots ring out.
02:01And so it's eerily quiet here on High Street as police continue to investigate what went
02:07down at 10.30 this morning.
