00:00But I want to take a second to look at the coaching carousel.
00:03We have right now six jobs that are open.
00:07Maybe another job comes free throughout these playoffs.
00:10If somebody loses, we've heard rumors around Philly.
00:13I have questions.
00:14What if Buffalo doesn't meet the level?
00:17We can get into that, but we have some concrete things open and available right now.
00:23And I want to get to one piece of news that is kind of piling throughout the week.
00:30And it's what's going on in Las Vegas, right?
00:33Antonio Pierce, press conference, gorgeous starter jacket, as far as I'm concerned, I'm
00:39the coach.
00:40Oh, no, you're not.
00:41All right.
00:42That's OK.
00:43Well, now it'll be up to Lasko to find a new.
00:45Oh, sorry.
00:46Yeah, you're out as well.
00:48My current read on the Las Vegas Raiders, Donnie, is the man in charge is Tom Brady.
00:55I am curious if that is your read and then what that would mean for their offseason.
00:59That is a read for me.
01:00And also, Tom Brady does have influence around the NFL where, you know, he can talk to coaches,
01:04he can talk to guys that you might want to come in as an offensive coordinator and players
01:08themselves and say, I'm going to get this right.
01:10One thing that we do know is Mark Davis is a terrible owner.
01:13No question about it.
01:14The simple fact is like he makes the moves and you see all the coaches that they have,
01:18the television general managers I talk about, nothing has worked since they left, you know,
01:22Oakland at this point.
01:23And quite frankly, while they were in Oakland, they were abysmal as well.
01:26But for me, I actually think it's a good thing because doors I don't think would be open
01:30for opportunities for coaches to come in and say, you know what, I think this organization
01:34is going to turn around because, Joe, correct me if I'm wrong on this.
01:37It's a great job to have.
01:38You're living in Vegas, you know, around, you know, a lively atmosphere and, you know,
01:43the art, the, you know, the black and the silver.
01:45It's great stuff.
01:46But when you look around at the vision, that's the worst job to take.
01:49If you're a coach going like, well, I wonder if I can make this my five or 10 year home.
01:52You're going up against Patrick Mahomes, Knicks now and Peyton look like they got it going
01:56and then horrible and Herbert out there.
01:58I don't.
01:59Yeah, I don't think it's a bad thing that Tom Brady is making the calls.
02:01He's a winner.
02:02He it's a it's a third party that's out out of the day to day per se.
02:07And to Donny's point, they have not made the right decisions, right?
02:10They thought they had the savior with John Gruden, the off the field situations, obviously,
02:16you know, put that, you know, into disarray.
02:19And since then, they've been searching for answers.
02:22There's I want to say a small foundation of young talent there with Brock Bowers, Jacoby
02:26Myers.
02:27But outside of that, you need a quarterback, right?
02:30You need somebody that could elevate and have an eye for free agent and draft pick type
02:35of talent.
02:36And I think that's good that Brady is, you know, hands on.
02:39He's close to the Michigan program.
02:40He's still involved in a lot of, you know, training and he does get to talk to a lot
02:44of people.
02:45And again, you want that perspective to say, this is what we're doing, right?
02:49This is what we're doing wrong, because Mark Davis hasn't done a good job as an owner.
02:53He's only he's only cared about the buck and moving the team.
02:57And outside of that, he could care less, I believe, about wins or losses until now.
03:02I think what's interesting with Brady, and we've seen reports from Ian Rappaport, you
03:07know, of NFL Network, Diane Rossini over at the Athletic, essentially, Tom Brady is
03:11solely responsible for Ben Johnson even taking an interview good with the Vegas Raiders.
03:18And if that then goes as far as they got Ben Johnson because of Tom Brady, that is amazing.
03:24But Tom Brady is also not, I don't think, at the moment, at least equipped to be their
03:29general manager.
03:30I mean, Tom Brady doesn't know the funds.
03:32He's not going to call Howie Roseman and look to execute a trade.
03:35So there's still, I think, Tom Brady being kind of the trump card, right?
03:40When you're trying to sell someone on what your organization has is great, but they still
03:46need to get the right people in place to make the right decisions.
03:50What I do think is very interesting and where I feel Tom's influence might be greatest is
03:56the quarterback position.
03:57They presently have the sixth pick, you know, it's smokescreen season already.
04:02I don't know if there's any good quarterbacks.
04:03There might be seven good quarterbacks.
04:05I saw a mock yesterday, apparently Jackson Dart's going in the top 10 out of nowhere.
04:10People love what he did against Duke.
04:11I don't know.
04:12I can't figure this stuff at six.
04:15One thing I do believe fully is that Tom Brady would draft Shador Sanders.
04:18There's an off-field relationship there.
04:20I just I think there would be interest.
04:23I could be wrong.
04:24Do they have to trade up for that?
04:26Is Shador a faller or is there a world where Dion, who has now even gone as far as to say
04:33something that I've been saying on this desk for a while.
04:36The only way I go to the NFL is if I can coach my sons.
04:39That's what he said.
04:40Admittedly, I don't know if the plural in that is Travis Hunter or Shiloh because we
04:44know it means Shador Sanders, quite frankly, Donnie.
04:47But I am just I want to, you know, hit this one more time until we maybe get a resolution.
04:53What do you make of the potential of a team joining Dion and Shador at the NFL level?
04:59I don't like it.
05:00I just don't.
05:01You know, sometimes it's he's coached him his entire life.
05:04So it makes sense.
05:05They're comfortable together.
05:06But when you're in the professional ranks, it's much different than college.
05:09I know college kids are getting paid now.
05:10It's a little bit different than what it was even 10 years ago.
05:13But you cannot have a quarterback with a direct line to the coach like they would have his
05:18father and son.
05:20Other people will feel slighted on that team.
05:21And I'm not even saying like the backup quarterback.
05:23I'm just saying, like, who's getting the rocket wide receiver?
05:26What type of offense are you going to run?
05:28Are you going to put your son in the best possible position outside of maybe the other
05:32players on your team?
05:33I'm not saying it can't work.
05:34I just wouldn't like that.
05:35And also, if you're an organization who does draft Shador Sanders, does that come with
05:39an offensive coordinator that sits in the room and Shador goes, I don't like this offense
05:43at all.
05:44I called my dad, talked about it.
05:45He thinks I should be in this type of offense.
05:47It's a tough sell here.
05:48Do I think it could work?
05:49Possibly.
05:50I just wouldn't look forward to doing it.
05:51It's a rare circumstance.
05:52And, you know, to Donnie's point, when you have guys fighting for paychecks, fighting
05:57for jobs, especially if there is, let's just say, a lack of success, it could implode in
06:03a heartbeat, more so at the professional level than it could maybe even at the college level.
06:07So that's where, because the coach is always still looked at at the college level, even
06:12though they're getting paid, as the guy on the professional level, that's it.
06:17They'll go straight to the owner and they'll say, I'm not playing or I'll sit out.
06:20I'm not doing this anymore.
06:22So that's the unique circumstance.
06:24What organization would do it outside of Las Vegas?
06:29I don't know.
06:30I could see Las Vegas being that organization to do it because it is Mark Davis and it is
06:35Brady maybe, but outside of them, I don't see it.
06:38But also, how do you guarantee that even gets there?
06:39Like you hire Dion now and say, great, I'm going to draft my son.
06:42Let's get the team in the one spot goes, all right, four first rounders, three first rounders
06:46and, you know, four second rounders.
