00:00Police were notified of an incident occurring at a property in Koorie near Uriara.
00:05A 20-year-old man, who was with four other men known to him,
00:09is alleged to have had a verbal disagreement with them.
00:12The man is alleged to have retrieved a firearm and used it to shoot at the men multiple times.
00:17The four men then fled the scene and were able to hide and dial 000.
00:22Police arrived a short time later and commenced an operation to rescue the four men,
00:27locating them on the property and moving them to safety.
00:30They were not injured during the incident.
00:33Just after 10pm last night, police located the alleged offender
00:38riding a quad bike attempting to exit the property
00:41and he was subsequently arrested.
00:43Fortunately last night, despite the potential for it to be a different story,
00:47we had a good outcome where our four potential victims
00:53and the alleged offender all came out without significant injury,
00:57no injuries to the police as well.
00:59Yeah, it is a very dangerous situation where there's a high calibre rifle
01:03and it's allegedly being used to target other human beings.
01:09It's a situation that 99% of the population, I would say, would try to run away from.
01:15Unfortunately, that's not the gig for police and other emergency responders.
01:20They did a fantastic job last night under very difficult circumstances.
01:25It's a remote rural property, it was raining quite heavily
01:29and to contain that scene and to get the result that we had
01:32is just a testament to the people that were out there and did the job.
